Very impressive efficiency for such a large spacious suv. Stopped off at the Lifton supercharger last year, wife was very impressed with the location. Had drinks and a bit to eat from the deli. Sat on the benches near the chargers enjoying the sun.
I picked my Model Y up from Southampton too. I was panicking and getting range anxiety when I was going to get home with 15% let alone 3%. Supremely confident! Keep up the great videos

@@onlineo2263 true, but if you make it, you'll get some of that energy back again going down. I used 5% of battery to get up Tamborine Mountain in Queensland, but put 3% back in on the descent. No fuel car can do that.
Just bought a Y long range after watching dozens of your videos. Thanks for the info it’s been very helpful. I was going to buy from you but I live in Cornwall so found one in Exeter in the end. White interior, black 20’s absolutely love it.
Tesla’s efficiency is second to none. They never cease to amaze me. Hoping to start my electric car journey this year with a model 3 standard range. Your video on the latest one proved how efficient that was too.
The RWD is the most efficient of all - over 2 years and 22,000 miles driven in all 4 seasons I've averaged 214 Wh/mi since new and in the summer regularly see consumption figures in 166-199 range. You'll love it.
Very useful video, Richard - thanks! For a fuel car/EV comparison, here are some real numbers from my Mazda3 Sport Maxx and the Tesla Model 3 SR+ which replaced it, using a conversion factor of 1L of petrol = 8.76 kWh of energy. The Mazda's 51L fuel tank when full held 447 kWh, and used 644 Wh/km, giving a range of 699 km, at a cost of 0.13 AU$/km. The Tesla's battery when full holds 53.6 kWh, and uses 132 Wh/km, giving a range of 406 km, at a cost of 0.02 AU$/km (charging overnight at home). This means the Mazda needs an energy capacity 8 x bigger to travel 1.7 times as far, and costing over 7 times as much per km driven. That says something about the efficiency of EVs, especially as the Tesla has almost twice the power (211 kW vs 114 kW).
I commute from Hertfordshire to Falmouth in my M3 LR and stop off at the Lifton supercharger almost every week. I concur, the coffee at the Arundell Arms Deli is probably the best on the route. Really enjoy the content, keep up the good work Richard and your team.
I picked up my Y the same day as yourself and I'm really pleased with it so far but haven't had chance to take it on a long run yet so your video was very useful. Hi Richard, love watching your very informative videos; great work. Could I ask, I currently have a BMW i3S and one of these on order, how does the suspension compare with the BMW? Thanks in advance.
Your efficiency of 296 W/mile or 384 W/mile (after charging losses of 10% ac to dc losses, 10% battery charge losses and 10% battery discharge losses). Using Octopus GO latest 7.5 p/kW would give a cost of around 2.9 p/mile. It would be interesting to compare all EV's (VW, Audi, etc.) based on the kWh supplied to the car to get the car's real efficiency rather than use the onboard computer that may not be accurate...
Regarding the arrival percentage issue, does Tesla have a customer feedback mechanism? Those kind of UI “mistakes” should be an easy fix. I hear plenty of long term Tesla owners complaining about the new UI.

Richard, I think your range average was 242 miles on a full charge According to what you said in the video, starting at 85% charging at 31% to 90% and getting home with 2%. That’s 142% of battery to go 344 miles. Did I do that correctly? It’s fine range, with 100kWh usage reported then the battery would be 70kWh + losses. All about speed and smooth driving. Lots of cold starts means heating cabin which uses quite a bit. Wait until temps above 12c and it will be more efficient. Turn on cabin heater w before departure, whilst still plugged in helps a lot when cold. but yes I may well do a video.
The new V11 software is massively inferior to what was before. The only thing I like about it is the move towards customisation, but the options need to be much better. The seat warming move on it I hate, and the removal of the efficiency display I hate.
Great video, just discovered your channel. Top content! 👍🏼 I’m looking to buy the same model as you have here, how do you find the firm ride on long journeys? Tiring/frustrating or tolerable/enjoyable?!
On longer journeys it tends to be motorway and there I don’t mind it. The drive through town to school is where it’s most crashy. All depends what you had before, but You get used to it.
Model 3 long range seems to be a little more efficient but not by much. A standard plus LFP would probably have been 240 wh/mi because it’s incredibly efficient

Hi Richard, interesting video by the way..I'm still on the fence and still enjoying my 2019 Merc B200d AMG line but really would only have a Tesla if I won one on BOTB.. 😆which I do play for..Anyway, which one goes further in a real life scenario model Y long range or model 3 std range plus? Keep up the good work.. 👍
Interesting that a new Y isn't much more efficient than my old 2015 70D S. . I've generally average 305w/m , even in the cold. I'm in Honiton so like a bit of Ali's myself 😃😃😃😃
Wouldn’t that mean the model Y is more efficient because it has a larger frontal area therefore more drag but still gets about the same or even slightly lower consumption than your S?
@@RSEV Interesting, because I have programmed LEDs for a robot, and because they are single frequencies (even though multiple colours), they play havoc with even expensive cameras. I cannot consider this car until it is built in Germany. To support The Chinese government would make me feel morally bankrupt. I enjoy the freedoms of the west and cannot spend my hard earned money on anything that undermines that hard won freedom. To m3 it is similar to buying a Mercedes in 1937
Meanwhile my 11 year old ICE could have done the journey there and back without an hour to charge up and saved myself 55K as well. Chuck that thing on the Motorway in the cold and you will be lucky to get 200 miles out of it pathetic really.

All about speed and smooth driving. Lots of cold starts means heating cabin which uses quite a bit. Wait until temps above 12c and it will be more efficient. Turn on cabin heater w before departure, whilst still plugged in helps a lot when cold. but yes I may well do a video.
Isnt it suppose to be able to do north of 300 miles? Plus its an empty car, no passengers. Mm
The new V11 software is massively inferior to what was before. The only thing I like about it is the move towards customisation, but the options need to be much better. The seat warming move on it I hate, and the removal of the efficiency display I hate.
With you on efficiency display. And driver profile. And % at destination.
Hi, how much less a model 3 do same trip? Any ideia? Best regards from Oporto.
Model 3 long range seems to be a little more efficient but not by much. A standard plus LFP would probably have been 240 wh/mi because it’s incredibly efficient
Where did you get the rear view mirror bumper protector from?
It’s packaging I haven’t seen from drivers seat
Ali’s do a good burger! Nice to see bits of my part of the world.
Did you autopilot most of the way?
Yes quite a lot. The roads were pretty empty so most of the dual carriageways yes
The change regarding the arrival percentage is very annoying...
With a trip like that I’m interested why you wouldn’t start at 100%?
Can any MY owners kindly tell me where the SD card is , and whether I need a larger one for “sentry mode” etc ?
My Fremont, 2021 MY has it in the glove box. 128 gb. Haven't felt the need to get anything larger.
Memory stick in glovebox. Doesn’t seem to be any need to replace
Great video collecting mine next week really informative does the car still drive if you hit zero percent 2 percent was relatively low i got my m3p down to 6 percent and felt range anxiety
The cars will drive at 0% Needless to say, don't do that. Find a charger.
When you hit 0% you are at 6% actually. But it's not that great for the battery anyway so try to avoid it if possible.
Y long range I think but it’s a test in the planning…
Get one if you can!
3sr is good value…
Do you use the autopilot much on these long runs ? I’m curious Richard.
Yes on the quiet dual carriageways I had it on most of the time
So 250 miles real world range?
289 until it dies (at motorway speeds)

Interesting that a new Y isn't much more efficient than my old 2015 70D S. . I've generally average 305w/m , even in the cold. I'm in Honiton so like a bit of Ali's myself 😃😃😃😃
Wouldn’t that mean the model Y is more efficient because it has a larger frontal area therefore more drag but still gets about the same or even slightly lower consumption than your S?
Is it me or do the headlamps look pretty, poor, in the amount of light?
Cameras don’t pick it up to be fair
@@RSEV Interesting, because I have programmed LEDs for a robot, and because they are single frequencies (even though multiple colours), they play havoc with even expensive cameras. AFAIK , cameras have filters to make pics/films more appealing. But this is what Elon was talking about, when he said they were trying to get "the raw photons" , (ie unfiltered) which contain more information, for FSD..
Please get your sales assistant to reply back to my emails about trading in my X4 for a Model 3 LR. Waiting on your evaluation of my car.

Hello mate 👍
You might want to check the title of the video!
Thank you! Amended
Well I keep changing my mind, think my next car will be full electric, skip the hybrid
Thanks for this… makes it worthwhile investing crypto assets in tesla🎉🎉🎉
Bb
This bell end gets 218 on a trip then says 250 the 300 mile range 😂
I cannot consider this car until it is built in Germany. To support The Chinese government would make me feel morally bankrupt. I enjoy the freedoms of the west and cannot spend my hard earned money on anything that undermines that hard won freedom. To m3 it is similar to buying a Mercedes in 1937
Meanwhile my 11 year old ICE could have done the journey there and back without an hour to charge up and saved myself 55K as well. Chuck that thing on the Motorway in the cold and you will be lucky to get 200 miles out of it pathetic really.
Don’t be foolish.
I enjoyed a nice lunch during a 30 minute stop and it was FREE.
If you don’t like EVs, fine. It’s only your being defensive but no need to make such comments. Just don’t moan to us when you can’t drive due to fuel costs or when your exhaust or clutch or gearbox or turbo or dpf needs fixing.
If can’t afford a new EV, fine. But again no need to write such superficial comment
