They can be found on the shores of Trinidad and Tobago from March to August. Thousands come to our shores to nest. Trinidad and Tobago is one of the most important and largest nesting sights in the world....

critically endangered actually. Eastern Pacific Leatherbacks are in terrible trouble. It’s lovely that these guys saw one in the wild

These turtles used to be far more diverse and proliferated.
Today there's only one species left. 3 million years ago there were 2 species of leather back, the species that went extinct was likely a result of oceanic cooling, many other things died in this time including many baleen whales, giant carnivorous whales, megalodons and a lot of phytoplankton.
About 33 million years ago, before the first ice age of of the Mesozoic, there were dozens of leather.
With global warming id expect their range to proliferate.
On the up note, if for some reason we humans cause their extinction, turtles will likely re-evolve into leather backs.
There was a seperate clade of leather backs in the cretaceous, climate change killed most of them, the rest died in the kt extinction, but small poop eating turtles, likely like those in swamps, went back to the ocean when niches were open and leather backs re-evolved

When you see a turtle in the wild never give 'em food because when they see another boat they think will think that food is present in there and poachers will caught them easily.

These beautiful creatures of the deep truly furnish praise to the name of their Creator, Jehovah. Fittingly, the Bible psalmist sang: “Praise Jehovah from the earth, you sea monsters and all you watery deeps.”-Psalm 148:7.

They are extremely rare to find because they're extinct. You should of killed it and put it on ice so you could preserve it on display. That was you see it every day!
