I thing you are right , I am about to buy the same laptop for 400 or 450 euro in Nederland I saw it on internet, and now I saw this video,
I think i was saved last minute 😂😂
I just picked up one 13” for $170. There is a crack on screen. Still a deal. I’ll use it like a Mac mini.
One of the worst things apple did was remove the touch bar, it worked great, but sadly I believe most people didn't know how to use it properly
it breaks very often..
What is touch bar? Can u plz explain bro
it broke constantly on my 2017 MacBook Pro. I didn't miss it one bit look. the volume ALWAYYYYYYYSSS got stuck. definitely got me in trouble with some porn related issues LOL.
@@jjoe7078Hahahhahahhaahahahahhaahahahha
LOL. Like when it freezes and you can't even exit the program cause the escape key was digital
I’ve still got this model and it’s work like a charm.
I mostly use it for websurfing.
I got new battery from Apple last year cost free. Due to software upgrade that killed my battery.
Have the same model. What MacOS do u use?
@@RuslanMirlanovich
macOS 13.4 beta
Dang same
Fixed mine recently, upgraded the SSD to a genuine 512GB Apple SSD, and installed Sonoma thanks to OCLP. Have been using it every day. Still a great machine.
how much did the SSD cost you?
How did you install the newer OS?
@@kev2427 OCLP - OpenCore Legacy Patcher
@@kev2427thanks to the open core legacy patch.... Which is basically the continuation of the very famous dosdude1 patch that had the same usage with older systems
2017 was, and probably will be the best year of 21st century.
haha I think so to
Agreed
idk…2016 was a good year
2018 I liked too though
2007 too
I love this Mac, especially the keyboard and the huge mouse pad but the screen hinge is on its last leg hahah I can feel it
Ive always been taking care of my devices and my MacBook pro 2017 works amazing
But the clock speed is 1.2ghz right ? So is it fast ? Can we run photo shop or auto cad kind softwares in it ? Is it worth to buy it ?
I still use this macbook and I loveit! No issues
Hey! Just wanted to give you a heads up…there was a (4) Thunderbolt/USB-C port version for the 13” MBP in 2017. I remember leaving the Apple Store with my model with Touch Bar/2 USB-C ports, and about a week later, I decided to bring it back in and swapped it out for the 4 port version because I wanted to be able to charge on either side of my MBP.
What was the model number?
I got a 15" MBP used on eBay for $380. I spent an extra $50 for adapters and a charger. This machine is a beast. It's fast and can handle multiple CPU-intensive applications. I like to use an external monitor for multitasking while I make beats (primary use).
Out of curiosity, I tested games like ROBLOX, which can run at smooth framerates on full graphics. On top of that, I tested OBS to see how it would handle gaming while recording and it did just fine (even with an external monitor connected).
Cons: keyboard feels cheap, the laptop tends to get very warm, and the fans are constantly at work. On the flip side, the touch bar is nice and packs great features.
Overall, the 2017 MPB is sleek, modern, and fast. If you're thinking about getting this for video editing, music production, or general web stuff, I'd definitely recommend purchasing.
hey u think this could handle premiere pro
Glad to hear, picked one up to slap reason 12 on. Good informative video in my opinion. But you said what I was looking for lol
@@tutorialkid5685i have seen some videos say that it can handle light video editing... If you want to pull some 4k shit, you are probably better with an m1 device
Brother, I'm about to get the 2018 15-inch core i7 - 16 GB RAM - 512 for entry-level video editing so will it handle the job and the video editing software like Adobe Collection, Final Cut.. etc.
Your answer will surely be appreciated ❤
Bro, replace the thermal paste on your old MacBooks! I'm watching this on a 2015 MacBook Pro and it's silent af, unless under heavy load from like exporting in editing software. Even now, I've got like 30 tabs open in safari and only when the temps go above 90° do the fans start kicking in. Sometimes, while watching a UA-cam vid, it hovers around 85°, but generally it just stays in the 60's! (Celsius)
I have one... Working daily with managing 2 websites and some other apps working has well, silent and the fans stay quiet almost all the time. Absolut beast the 2015 model
the only reason I want an older model is because I’m just gonna watch yt/Netflix and do my school work
And the touch bar
same lol
Which older model are you using? Good?
I have the two thunderbolt port one (it is less powerful than this one). I don't do any editing or heavyweight stuff, so this laptop is still going strong for me and definitely worth it. I considered changing it when the M1 macbooks came out but, realistically, for the moment I don't *need* more power. This laptop still does everything I need it to do, which is basically researching stuff, writing papers and entertainment. It's portable, reliable and the battery lasts a decent amount of hours (I changed it for a new one recently for 130 bucks). When it dies on me, I will obviously go for something better because why not, but for now? It's more than fine. And I know many people are in the same situation as I am. College students who don't need their laptop to do crazy stuff, people who need a portable machine that doesn't necessarily have to run heavy programs...
I just bought one kinda nervous because I’ve seen negative reviews but I’d say I’m new to MacBooks and I’m not a gamer or computer geek so I think productivity wise I’m good but it’s coming Wednesday. Only worry is the keyboard but we’ll see…
Same mine comes Wednesday as well and all these negative reviews are making me second guess my decision
@@biancaflowers1172mine is coming this month and boy, the reviews are discouraging.
@@biancaflowers1172how is the MacBook going ? Is it slow, is the battery good ? Are there any cons ?

I just picked up a 2017 MBP 13, 512gb ssd with touchbar and 4 usbc ports for 100 bucks. Seems like a good secondary machine.
I just picked up one recently and I love it. BTW I upgraded the HD to 1T and I dual boot with wihndows.
Is it possible to upgrade ssd ?
@@imranabrar1757afaik, the none touchbar version allows storage upgrade
I do agree if you need to do 4k video editing you definitely should just invest in a used or renewed newer Macbook minimum M1 .. however I would like to say I own a 2017 13inch Macbook pro & a 2019 15inch Macbook pro , and I actually find myself using my 13 inch a lot more , the build quality is amazing and its super portable, I think if you dont require heavy task this this should suit you fine however I would say get one with at least 16gb of ram
The 2017 mac books are extremely cheap right now even cheaper than the late 2015 mac book pro with the other keyboard type
Ehy you think the 2017 is cheaper than 2015 MBP? It is not better? I think of switching from 2015 tp 2017
I have the 15 inch version of this. Best laptop I ever had
Thanks for the review. For me the ssd size is always the deal breaker when deciding to upgrade to the m1 from the 2014 MacBook Pro for less than $500. I can a have 2017 MacBook Pro 15 2tb and a 3.1 i7 processor it will perform slightly better than what I was using. Plus that year will continue to be supported by apple. No brainer in the interim. Eventually when you play it like this the M1’s will come down in price and offer bigger ssd’s. I’m living right in the cusp of price and a bump in technology.
Can you play league of legends on your new macboo kpro 15?
Just saw it in the resale market
For 300 dollars
Should I buy it
bro I'm literally watching this vid on a Lenovo legion y520 with macOS on that thinks it's a MacBook Pro 2017. I think that's because they're using the same exact intel processors but I could be wrong, it works really well non the less. I haven't seen any lag. if you're buying one in 2023 though make sure to get 16 gigs of ram.
I got one recently because
1) The non-touchbar version is the last MacBook Pro with a user upgradable SSD
2) it’s the oldest (cheapest) MacBook Pro that runs Ventura
Does the core i5 able to code well?
@@thenessh2807 Depends on what you’re doing, I use it mostly for Photoshop and illustrator.
does it run smooth ?
@@Dbisi-pj2bu Very smooth

Love the touch bar.
Are the keyboard issues blown out of proportion with this 2017 mbp? Everyone seems to love it here in the comments. I’m looking to upgrade from my 2011 mbp and need something affordable for school/regular web browsing. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds!
I have a 2011 MBP with a keyboard that halfway died - which sucked, because I loved that machine. I got a 2017 MBP brand new and honestly - i HATE IT. Now, battery is dead so that's why I'm here. just saying. Loved my 2011 (and most other apple products) and HATE the 2017. Worst lappie I've ever owned.
@@sma1968 would you be able to elaborate on why you hate the 2017 pro?
@@jzglazier8999 Besides the battery issue (the battery started giving me problems within two years), the keyboard is not as good as the 2011 model. I have a much higher rate of error with typing. Also, the fans kick on with the slightest processing. It does have a nice screen, but the keyboard really killed it. I also don't like that it only has two thunderbolt ports - of which you need on to power it. (so basically one -that you have to get all sorts of adapters in order to use usb, hard lan, SD cards, anything).
They are definitely there. I never used their program to change it because I needed the laptop and I couldn't just ship it away and wait for them to return it to me, though I should've. That being said, most of the keys that have been problematic have resolved themselves. Occasionally I will get a sticky one (right now the "e" key is giving me a little bit of trouble), but it's not the end of the world. It's outrageous that a 1300 buck machine has these issues, but it's not the end of the world.
However, if you're looking to upgrade your laptop, I would suggest going for something NEW within your budget. You want your laptop to last you as many years as possible and you guarantee that by buying a new up-to-date machine. That way, it'll stay on the software update list for the longest. Have you had a look at deals for the MB Airs? Ever since they released the M1/M2 chips, I hear they're absolute beasts especially for the price.
Apple had the butterfly keyboard back then
for heavy editing a bit laggy 😅😅, if just for typing browsing its just fine.
My MacBook Pro still runs great in its sixth year🤯🔥
Can you still play video games?
@@danicadormal2528 you betcha
How does fl & mixing software run on this thang?
just ordered the 2018 15 inch, decided to go for 2018 over 2017 because it was about the same price wise and the base model is 6 cores
They also (mostly) fixed the flex gate problem with the 2018…be glad you went with ‘18 over ‘17!
Also the 18 can run macOS Sonoma without using oclp
I thought apple had already had usb port and hdmi port many years ago ? how can it be new technology ? going back and forward doesn't make it newer tech
Does he mention how all of the ribbon cable for the monitors eventually wear out?
I still use my 2015 15"inch MacBook PRO 1TB full specced model next to my new M2 model. Have it in my living room for when I wanna use it on the sofa. Never got into the dongle generation after the 2015 model. I don't really use much external devices on my MacBooks. The M2 is ofc way faster haha that's a fact but still love the old design. Also used a unibody one from 2011 that was a really great experience back in the day.
Mostly use my M2 for photo and video editing and it sits next to a PC with a RTX4090 for AI Stable Diffusion work nowadays because I almost never game on it no more. The M2 is also fully specced except storage and RAM they are one notch down from fully specced.
Anyway MacBooks are imo the best devices you could get in the past (build quality and battery life was always good) but nowadays there are more options that are up to the same level. Still for a laptop I will mostly buy a MacBook Pro although will not upgrade the M2 for a couple of years.
Also running a Asus laptop with windows (cheaper 1100 euro model with 10th gen intel i5 and a GPU) also great device it is standing on the dinner table because I hate moving my machines through the house haha.
Anyway great video as always.
i have maxed out 2017 pro 15 inch. so 2tb ssd from 2017. Design is 10/10 but CPU limitations are too high. Is a Slow Mac when CPU is heavy used. And is a very Hot machine when cpu is used so hot and slow. With very bad Battery. my mom buy a MacBook Air m1. and this thing feels mucho better compare to my MacBook from 2017. intel Macs are dead. and this is good so.
Do air version of MacBook 2017
I wish they didn’t remove the Touch Bar I loved it
Would you recommend this for entry level - mid level coding/programming and video/graphics editing? If no, which laptop in the same price would you recommend?
Same here, let me know what you think

When I was in college. A 2014 macbook pro was good enough for coding. So… BUY!!!
Is this recommend for a film student and for video/photo editing?
That’s what I’m trying to figure out too…I’ve had the 2015 MacBook for a while and wanna upgrade cause it’s slowed down a bit
I have the pro 15 from 2017 and still works good.
2017 was a sweet spot for Macs & the main reason is because of Jony Ive.

I just bought one of these for under $100. just to learn Mac OS and see if it's something I would be interested in. I have way better Windows laptops and an iPad Air 5th gen. I just bought for programming it work fine.
I still have the top spec 2017 model and works perfectly. I will not ever pay for a high end MBP ever again and have no interest in their stupid over priced hyped M1/2/3 processors. Software is becoming smarter and requires less power not more, just look at the latest iPads which are still processor & ram locked down by apple, rest my case :)

The fans do indeed kick in all the time. I bought this new in 2017 and it’s the biggest waste of £1200 on my part. Unbelievable how disappointing this is. I won’t EVER buy a mac again. Currently rendering a very simple 8 minute video on iMovie and it’s taking about an hour. Ridiculously slow.
Even when the fans kick in they’re very quiet, £1200?, I paid £2700 for mine, been solid, battery still normal, albeit with reduced capacity. Great machine.
I have this computer and it's the best computer I ever owned. I can't afford a 1k laptop, so I got this one for 500 in 2022. This is basically the best device I could get that is light, fast, and reliable, big, and pleasant to use. No regrets. I do think everyone should get i7 and 16gb ram though
