The fact that Rolling Stone ranked him 98th out of 100 and readers from Guitar World ranked him 3rd out of 100 for Greatest Rock Guitarists of All Time goes to show how underrated and misunderstood he is to non-guitar players.
The fact that you accept as legitimate those polls means you need to re-evaluate what being a musician is and not put credence to any musician ranking poll. In other words who cares about polls , rankings aka who's better than the other !

I agree. It reveals the irrelevance of critics. You either like Rush, bought their records and tickets to their shows or you didn’t. Rating people based on whether or not they like Rush is, however, quite relevant. It goes without saying that you and I and every Rush fan here are rated in the upper one percentile of useful, engaging, and often misunderstood people on the planet. Cheers!

Given that Alex's stated net worth is correct, he earned every bit of it. Being a world-class, life-changing musician that spent 40ish years giving us the soundtrack to our lives while grinding away on the road away from his family, while getting a few of my bucks, he deserves every bit of it. I thank him and the guys for all the joy and hard work that I never tire of. He seems such a cool, humble guy that would be fun to have a beer with.

It’s not correct, he’s worth more than Geddy and Neil, hes the only Rush member to have done an extensive number of outside projects. He’s worth more than $50 million.

I absolutely love Eddie’s humility off stage contrasting his talent and showmanship onstage. That to me was his greatest virtue. He would literally become shy when posed with the “greatest of all time questions. Alex is my personal fav guitar player, yet I never subscribed to those greatest of all time polls. One guitar player could not play another’s music in the same way. Just curious…can you site the reference that Eddie made about Alex? Cheers!

Rolling Stone supposedly polled other famous guitarists. I highly doubt that is true though due to where they ranked Alex and some other guitarists that are clearly not in his league.

Rush was such a tightly packed unit that the loss of any one of the members would mean that the band could not carry on as Rush. Alex Lifeson would be difficult to fit in with any other band as a regular member.
I hope he and Geddy start working on collaborations with other bands. There’s just too much talent laying idle between those two!

Andromeda isn't part of the Star Trek franchise. It's a Gene Roddenberry project, but it's not Star Trek. That being said, his work on Season 1 of Andromeda is fantastic.
