The fact that Rolling Stone ranked him 98th out of 100 and readers from Guitar World ranked him 3rd out of 100 for Greatest Rock Guitarists of All Time goes to show how underrated and misunderstood he is to non-guitar players.
The fact that you accept as legitimate those polls means you need to re-evaluate what being a musician is and not put credence to any musician ranking poll. In other words who cares about polls , rankings aka who's better than the other !
I agree. It reveals the irrelevance of critics. You either like Rush, bought their records and tickets to their shows or you didn’t. Rating people based on whether or not they like Rush is, however, quite relevant. It goes without saying that you and I and every Rush fan here are rated in the upper one percentile of useful, engaging, and often misunderstood people on the planet. Cheers!
I recall when, a few years back, Neil toppled Keith Moon for the greatest drummer of all time. People asked why. Do we really need to ask why the members of RUSH are so revered? Massive talent and they are fine humans. RIP dear Professor...
Yup. 3rd greatest when other musicians are casting the vote, thru their extremely high musical standards, sophistication, and taste. 98th when non-musicians are. Most underrated guitarist on the planet. The guitarist's guitarist.
Rolling Stone supposedly polled other famous guitarists. I highly doubt that is true though due to where they ranked Alex and some other guitarists that are clearly not in his league.
In an interview in the late 80's Eddie Van Halen was asked "What it's like to be the greatest guitarist in the world?" Eddie replied: "I don't know, you'll have to ask Alex Lifeson that question".
I absolutely love Eddie’s humility off stage contrasting his talent and showmanship onstage. That to me was his greatest virtue. He would literally become shy when posed with the “greatest of all time questions. Alex is my personal fav guitar player, yet I never subscribed to those greatest of all time polls. One guitar player could not play another’s music in the same way. Just curious…can you site the reference that Eddie made about Alex? Cheers!
Given that Alex's stated net worth is correct, he earned every bit of it. Being a world-class, life-changing musician that spent 40ish years giving us the soundtrack to our lives while grinding away on the road away from his family, while getting a few of my bucks, he deserves every bit of it. I thank him and the guys for all the joy and hard work that I never tire of. He seems such a cool, humble guy that would be fun to have a beer with.
He's gotta be worth more than $35 Million Dollars... it's hard to wrap your mind around what they were pulling in touring and merchandise sales 💵 for 30+ years. 🤫 🤓
It’s not correct, he’s worth more than Geddy and Neil, hes the only Rush member to have done an extensive number of outside projects. He’s worth more than $50 million.
The Orbit Room closed for good in March of 2021. Small-business COVID casualty # 17,062 here in Toronto. The mall near my home lost more than 50% of its small business, but that's another story. RIP Orbit Room.
Sem nenhuma dúvida, Alex Lifeson é um dos meus maiores heróis, de todos os tempos. Sua contribuição musical é indiscutível. Vida longa ao grande Alex. ✨💫🌟 🇧🇷
I think Alex is a hell of alot better guitar player than Hatfield way better he calls him a rhythm guitar player he's a rhythm and sick lead player just listening to old rush you'll hear
This was mostly all BS. This home interiors are not Alex’s house. Only one that’s accurate is the MCM home. Yikes. Carmine Appice, Malcom from AC/DC in some random shots. Likely AI generated. And Alex’s “likely “ cars? Lol, come on dude!
He sold his FL condo after being beaten up by the Naples police. He has sold most of his other houses too. When he was on "Shred with Shifty", he was living in a high rise apartment in downtown Toronto
5:36 Why do you have a picture of Carmine Appice in there ? and you talked about Neil and John Rutsey but failed to even mention Geddy Lee. just seems odd not to mention him
Isn't that Malcolm Young at 5:23? I don't see the relevance to the subject matter at hand....other than to show him as being another primarily self-taught guitarist (if, in fact, Malcolm is also a self-taught guitarist).
Rush was such a tightly packed unit that the loss of any one of the members would mean that the band could not carry on as Rush. Alex Lifeson would be difficult to fit in with any other band as a regular member. I hope he and Geddy start working on collaborations with other bands. There’s just too much talent laying idle between those two!
I gave up reading or paying much attention to anything that's come out of the Rolling Stone magazine many decades ago in the Hall of Fame is a joke as well because they refuse to recognize all the great musicians who should be in the Hall of Fame
I'm actually surprised at how low his net worth is. It seems like it should be a lot more given 20 studio albums and dozens of worldwide concert tours. There must be a lot of people besides the musicians that get a cut of the take.
They spent a lot of money on the road the show production was top tier they paid their crew top pay in the industry even giving full time members healthcare plus they started flying private in the 90s and they didn’t start making the big bucks till 79 80
Andromeda isn't part of the Star Trek franchise. It's a Gene Roddenberry project, but it's not Star Trek. That being said, his work on Season 1 of Andromeda is fantastic.

That question is also attributed to Eric Clapton, but he answered “I don’t know, ask Prince.” It may just be urban legend absent video.
It’s not true. Wish it was, but it’s not.
EXACTLY!!❤ LUV THE COMMENT! There would hard to find anyone who can compare! Rush is my All-Time favorite. Hello to all my fellow Rush fans 👋
Try number 1 Guitarist.....and at anytime top 3...but everything he does is far from the others in technology and creative writing.

@@SD_UK - not to mention the photo of 'Rutsey' 5:39. Who knew the Rush drummer originally played in Vanilla Fudge?
I don't know if everyone realizes it but the picture of him setting with the guitar is actually Malcolm Young of AC/DC.🎸
Malcom is his stunt double.
Saw that as well
I caught that too
I saw it too and had to go back to check... There's even an AC/DC lightning bolt on the gear box behind him. LOL
And also, in another pic there's Carmine Appice behind the drums
Sorry but that second house is not in Florida. It's in GoodWood, Ontario. I built the retaining wall in the backyard and his fire pit.
Yep. Coppinwood golf. Met him at Zehrs in Ux… a few times.
He had a "small" house in Naples, Florida at one time (or so I read). But he let that one go, I hope you know why that would be lol.

Remember Alex Lifeson's work on Star Trek Andromeda.
Andromeda isn't part of the Star Trek franchise. It's a Gene Roddenberry project, but it's not Star Trek. That being said, his work on Season 1 of Andromeda is fantastic.
Alex is a big fan of Porcupine Tree, when Steven Wilson found this out he asked Alex to write the Guitar section for Anesthetize.
