When I visited a concert from Bohren. Before they began to play this song, the saxophonist introduced this song with the words: "The next song is about a lady. A lady in her late 30s, sitting alone in her subsidized apartment in Cologne. She doesn't knows how she should manage to pay her bills, while her little baby is crying in the next room" I can't describe with words the following images which came into my mind during this song. Such an impressive, depressive atmosphere.... Love it!
very simple and perfect choice for the viauals, captured the mood perfectly. In fact this is the video from YT for Bohren & Der Club of Gore's music I enjoyed most.
For those of you who don't understand the title: "Mitleid" = mercy, compassion in German. "mit" means "with"; used as a noun prefix it means "fellow" or "joint". "Leid" means "suffering".
Words, especially words for abstract concepts, are arbitrary. We each have our own personal deinition of words. I feel that 'empathy' is the best translation for Mitleid.
@@jonransdell well ok. but etymologically its just the same: smphaty, from sym = with and pathos, suffering, and empathy, again has the origination of pathos. i am unsure right now of the etymology of that em, probably some greek don't know.
@@jonransdell empathy would be "Mitgefühl". "Mitleid" is to feel sorry for someone, > compassion, but can also have a negative connotation, like "pity" and is meant derogatory.

She could have stayed... and she would have still been alone...
Painkillers. I took them to numb the pain of a lifetime of service. More wounds inside and out than I can count and they just keep coming. Painkillers. The pain never dies it just goes back under to heal and regroup. Then it comes back screaming like a new born child only uglier. So I'll pop another pill and chase it with whiskey to put it back to bed.

I found this song after I picked up a limited edition Single CD. It sounds like the perfect piece of music for a noir film.
