    Hello from Scotland. Windyy here today :-). And my i-1500 is due today via DHL after a long trip from Istanbul. I've built my own controller panel with relays & dump load but I see you're using one of these ebay/aliexpress hybrid wind controllers. for your test. Do these actually do anything other than trip&dump at hi/lo voltages or maybe they do something a bit more clever?.

    • @ToysforWatts
      @ToysforWatts  2 роки тому

      Nah they add some hassle and don't offer anything unless you're trying to tie a small solar rig up with the turbine. This one wasn't very efficient or effective, I just used it for the test because it was convenient at the time. I prefer to use standalone rectifiers and relays.

      Yeah, I though as much. Thanks for the quick reply. I wondered, have you thought about using a 2 or even 3 stage set of controllers and relays to introduce dump loads in succession when the hi volt limit is reached? Probably quite simple to do with these controllers where you can set delays. Maybe less of a jolt to the turbine when the dump load(s) come in. ....or am I just taking it too far :-)). Certainly on my test bench, when the i1500 dump load is triggered, it tries its very best to escape from the vice. Fair old bit of stress on the machine, I think.

    I really like how you fabricated your tower. Great idea!
    I've been thinking about getting a small solar array and add a wind turbine to it for those cloudy days when the solar panels aren't producing to their full potential, and being by a large body of water where we always have fairly stable wind conditions, I thought that a wind generator could help support battery charging, even at night with moderate winds. My biggest concern is that I am skeptical about investing in a wind turbine after watching many a video on how most are epic failures and money wasted. I've seen a lot of John Daniel's videos where he has outlined great success with his units, but I believe that he's in the mid-west where the winds are really whipping out there.
    Anyhow, I am not 100% convinced that a wind turbine is an ideal investment. Thanks for sharing your video. Cheers!

    Really well presented mate. Ill admit after watching your initial setup video with the GTI and the lead acid batteries without a BMS, I browsed the rest of your videos looking for explosions. Relieved, but just a little bit disappointed to see they are only "ded" ;).

      That's one of the reasons I was okay with this arrangement...the lead lawn mower batteries lack the capacity to really have a proper melt down :D

      Midnight classic 150 is easily the best charge controller out there. There's some very basic battery switches on eBay that are cheap, but they don't offer the versatility of the Classic.

    The test should show what real time rpms at about 300 rpms not anything much over that.and will a 24 volt turbine charge a 12 volt battery if so at what rpms will you get 1 amp out of it?

    I realize this is an old video, so I hope you still reply. I have a 24V generator motor I just bought. I did a bench test with just a volt meter. I was wondering if it's normal to test a 24V motor and get close to 60V on meter with a drill running it? No batteries involved, just volt meter directly to motor. Also do you have a Facebook account? If so could you maybe list that so myself and others could contact the guru (you) easier😆👍🏻 thanks

      yeah especially larger turbines will spike pretty high when unloaded. My 48v turbines, for example, will all run 100~150v without a load on them.

    I’m still in the development stages of getting one of these.
    I have a camper van that’s not receiving power through the night.
    I know 1000w translates to 250w in expectation.

    Nice tower, maybe a center pipe at the top makes the connection better to the wind turbine and taller too. And to get 1500 watt out you need to put in 1500 W in, plus some. So a corded heavy duty hammer drill maybe better, one that doesn't smoke.

    probably wouldn't hurt to drain those batteries down a bit to say 24.4 so they'll take a load for sure

    bonjour monsieur, êtes vous satisfait de cette éolienne ?

    • @ToysforWatts
      @ToysforWatts  4 роки тому +1

      Je suis désolé si cela ne semble pas correct. Je ne parle pas français. J'utilise Google Traduction.
      Je suis content de cette éolienne. Il a fonctionné ainsi que les réclamations du fabricant. Il y a des bizarreries qui doivent être abordées, mais pour le prix, il sera difficile d'obtenir un produit parfait. Je pense que c'est la meilleure valeur sur le marché aujourd'hui pour les éoliennes grand public.
      Merci d'avoir regardé et veuillez vous abonner! Je publierai régulièrement des mises à jour sur cette turbine au fil du temps.

    Hello, i'm planning yo use a insta breeze i1500 24v generator for a hydro aplication.
    How Many rpm do you think It needs to obtain 1500w?
    Thank you!

    • @ToysforWatts
      @ToysforWatts  4 роки тому

      750-850 rpm but it's going to be pretty heavily dependent on voltage and load.

      @@ToysforWatts thank you very much for your response, i'm planning to use it at 26-29v.
      What about heating, do you test It long time?
      Now i have an missouri wind and solar (previous version of freedom 2) and It goes well but needs lots of rpm.
      I'm going to make a new turbine to put in parallel and want a less rpm solution (less multiplicators, less problems)
      Thank you again.

    @02:17 That's the thing about those "electric" motors...they run on smoke! Once you let the smoke out they don't run so well.😳

      I still use that drill, it's an OLD black and decker rig, I have to hit it sometimes to make it work lol. Every time I REALLY start stressing it she smokes a little...I think so long as I never let all her smoke out she'll keep going

    What was your drill rpm?

    • @ToysforWatts
      @ToysforWatts  4 роки тому

      Approximately 275rpm but it slows down the more loaded the generator gets. It's not meant to really give an accurate performance reading, just a base idea of how the generator will load up and if it works at all. It tends to give me about 15~20% of what I see once the machine is in the air

      @@ToysforWatts thanks.. Reason for me asking is because I have built one but the fp640 model but i rewrapped the coils with 16awg and added small n40 mags. My meter is showing 240 rpm with my 600rpm drill at 75watts but 300+watts at 200-260rpm with a 2300rpm drill. Rpm seems to lower as it as you said with a load. Does all turbines do this? On my turbines i always thought it spins faster as watts go up in wind speed.
