I disagree strongly. Hot Space is an album that I listen to frequently and enjoy it every time. Here is an anecdote and a testimony to Queen’s brilliance and diverse skills. One day here at home I was listening to Hot Space on some good quality speakers. My husband, not a Queen fan, asked me to play a track again. It was “Staying Power”. He said he was glad I was listening to someone else besides Queen. The laugh was on him!
I’m glad you enjoy hot space I was given the album by a friend to listen to at first I didn’t understand it but having listened to it many times since I really enjoyed it staying power and back chat are very catchy and you can definatly dance to those songs I think people who dislike hot space either haven’t listened to it or just go on what other people have said so by doing that they judge something just because it’s cool hot space is one of those albums that gets a lot of bad rep but it really isn’t as bad as it’s made out to be
@Queenie4Real yes true I don’t know if you know another band to note on for changing there style to much is black flag going from hardcore punk to sludge metal and post hardcore none of which particularly appeal to me there are a couple of bands I do like like fugazi and naked ray gun anyway the point being yes it’s hard to please everyone rock or no rock
Ok, so, you didn’t really listen to that album very often, did you? Ok, here‘s the deal: there are some disco-ish songs on there: - staying power - dancer - back chat - body language - action this day Two of those 5 songs (dancer and action) are not really „disco“ but rocksongs put into a disco-disguise. Half of the other tracks are very mich NOT disco at all: - put out the fire (rock) - life is real (ballad) - calling all girls (folk-pop-rock) - las palabras de amor (pop-ballad) - cool cat (a soulful midtempo track, no disco) - under pressure (we all know that song) So, we could say that side one is a bit disco, side two is no disco. What still is debatable is the question: is it a good record and I kinda agree that even the more traditional Queen-tracks on this record don’t stand up to the rest of their catalogue. But this record beeing a strict disco-record and therefore a bad record is false.
Haters of this albums are so stupid, the B-Side is very precious. The A-Side is till cool imo, but people must regard this as an album... Personally one of my favs from the 80s
Exactly my point to say whole thing is disco is just incorrect! Basically only 3 songs that are disco but even back chat has queen guitar solo (although Brian did have to fight john to have it in song as john didn't want it clearly some in fighting went on for this album!
I’d say Back Chat ‘n Staying Power are DISCO-ish songs. Action This Day ‘n Calling All Girls are more New Wave/Neo-Punk. Body Language is more club/dance music of the 80’s ‘n not DISCO. I agree that Dancer is more Classic Rock than DISCO. Life is Real is a ballad written in the style of John Lennon pretty much like Crazy Little Thing Called Love was written in the style of Elvis ‘cos it’s meant to be a homage to John Lennon. Las Palabras De Amor is a Latin based song written as a Classic Pop-Rock ballad that’s a nod for their Latin fan base. Cool Cat was a str8-up R’NB/Soul ballad that you’d hear on the Motown label (think of Switch/Debarge). Under Pressure to me was Neo-Pop Rock. I remember thinking it was a Bowie song (as that ‘s how I came to know the song thru his music). Heard it all of the time on the American Pop Radio stations introduced as a Bowie song back in the ‘80s thru 2000’s 😅. Of course my mind was 🤯 away when I’d learned much later it was BOTH Bowie ANNNND Queen together 😉. So I agree with ya that Hot Space LP wasn’t DISCO at all. It had more ‘other’ genres like R’NB/Funk/Soul/Dance which ppl easily (or quite lazily) combine them all into DISCO. The thing is, back in ‘82 when DISCO had already left the scene ‘n Rock fans HATED it everywhere...even had DISCO LP breaking parties ‘n gatherings. Once anybody promoting the LP (Bri/Rog) stated it was DISCO, THEY EFFECTIVELY KILLED IT FOR THEMSELVES DELIBERATELY! Freddie took the heat for it as their frontman but it was the other two who resented the amount of import Deacy had on THIS particular LP. He was initially hired to just play the bass ‘n remain in the background but Freddie insisted he do more on the LPs by way of song creations so that he’d have future royalties for his ever growing family. I think Bri resented the fact that some of the songs on this LP didn’t require his classic guitar solos, but synth ones.
Staying Power is such a good track, and the live version is even better. Honestly, most of the tracks that got played live are way better than their album counterparts, especially Action This Day and Body Language.
my favorite songs from the album are: Back Chat, Put out the fire, Under Pressure and definitely Cool Cat. With Back Chat and Cool Cat both in my top 10 favorite Queen Songs ever. But I can understand why people dont like the album
Me to. That's what made queen so fantastic never just the same sound always different an i loved how you got studio sound then different when live i love this album on full blast when im cleaning ❤
This commentator is full of crap. These songs might have some funk beat in them but none of them are Disco and he says the entire album is Disco. Queen was a band that was never afraid to try new things that's why I love them.
This is a good album. My biggest issue with it is that Brian and Roger don’t sing lead on any of their songs. Roger should have sang Action This Day and Brian should have sang Las Palabras. They discontinued that formula that worked so well on their other records.
@Thomas Anderson Which makes me wonder why they didn’t do for that soundtrack like they did for their future Highlander one...write for the actual movie ‘n then mirror/or change some of the Flash Gordon one for their LP. Tho I think Bri took the lead in the Flash Gordon soundtrack project which might explain why it remain purely soundtrack-ish rather than converted into a commercial effort (like Kind of Magic was).
So so disagree!! This album is so much fun, got a great beat!! Love Dancer, Put out the fire and Back Chat and Action, etc. Freddie loved the club music, and they went for it on this album. I love it as I do all Queen's music. Queen 👑 forever. P,s. Just skip body language.
Everyone hates hot space but its their 5th most successful album! If they had worked better as a band and hadnt obsessed over people will think its gay club music and dragged it out for 9 months it would have been much better and had more balance to it Just because Freddie wanted to explore more funk and dance music the whole album didnt need to be and it wasn't! It just didn't have much rock Every time Freddie has success, its all its the band not just Freddie ! When something doesn't work all fingers point at Freddie! Im glad im seeing more comments liking it The band let Freddie and themselves down on this one It doesnt matter if Freddie wanted to do something new,you create a good working environment so everyones at their best, give your best and find a compromise But on this they made it difficult and stressful Despite all that it still has good tracks Its just frustrating that it could have been much better But imo the band have to look at their own input on this,Freddie was one of four people! But I doubt their giving him credit now its their 5th successful album!? Its not just the tracks, its the fact they made it clear in videos and interviews they weren't really behind the album When they said something positive it didn't come accross very convincing Why is everyone insisting its a disco album it isnt!
I think the album was revolutionary at the time. It was the best sounding album untill MJ's Thriller was released. But not a typical Queen album at the time. Actually the album was a huge inspiration for Michael Jackson for the Thriller album. Its an iconic art and pop milestone.
You’re spot on! MJ adopted his style of singing based on Freddie Mercury’s style for singing dance songs. We can clearly hear the shift in the way he’d previously sang on his Off the Wall LP vs Thriller.
@@diabolusvincit this is a fact and is wel documented. MJ even had recordings done with Mercury for the Thriller. I respect your opnion. But my opnion is that Off the wall sounds like a 70’s disco album.
I feel like Hot Space got better with time, Hot Space is a lot better in 2020 than in 1982. Some of my favorite songs are Action this Day, Back Chat, and Put out the fire. Also (like most of their songs) they sound a lot better live, especially Staying Power, but that my opinion.
The thing is, Hot Space was never a DISCO LP but was given that label to effectively kill it’s chances of success. This is why over time, ppl realize this ‘n now it’s one of their most streamed LPs to date.
Personally I like this album. Put out the fire, Action this day, Back chat and Body language and of course Under pressure are all great songs. If you know anything about Queen then you’d know they didn’t want to be put in a category or in a box because of their diversity. This album has rock and disco to appeal to both genres. Just like Freddie said “it’s just a bloody record, ppl get so upset about these things”. So there you have it!
I would call it funk, not disco. Others may count as disco songs, but Another One Bites the Dust, Cool Cat, Back Chat, and Staying Power would be funk. Also, Put Out the Fire, was like Hammer to Fall on The Works, as it was the only real rock song on the album. The only difference was that it wasn't a hit.
Thx you! I’ve been saying that Hot Space isn’t DISCO but R’NB/Funk/Soul in addition to New Wave/Neo Punk with Rog’s songs....classic rock ballad (song for Lennon), Dancer/Put Out the Fire definitely rock. Cool Cat was str8-up R’NB Soul ‘n Body Language was simply Dance/Club music bordering along the lines of early House. Under Pressure was more Neo Pop Rock (with Bowie’s influences).
A day at the races was looked at at the time as a "softer album" which provoked Queen going with a harder edge with News of the World (along with the Dawn of Punk)
I saw Queen live in 1982 and I couldn't believe how much better the Hot Space songs were live! They were raw, more dynamic and they added more guitar. 👏🏼 👑 🟥🟦🟩🟨 👑
What Queen tried and failed to do with Hot Space, the Red Hot Chili Peppers did 10 times better. If Freddie lived in the 90s, I have a strong feeling that Queen would've gone for a Chili Peppers type sound since that was a perfect balance between Freddie' and Johns love for Dance music and Brian and John's love for Rock
While this isn't a classic Queen album full of anthems and just Queen in general but I consider this album amazing with it's catchy tunes but we all have different tastes
You forgot to mention Brian May and Roger Taylor disliked the new sound. And were very critical of the influence that Paul Prenter, Freddie's personal manager between 1977 and 1984, had on the singer. Recalling the recording process in 2011, Taylor openly criticized the direction in which Prenter was taking Mercury (and thus the rest of the band), stating that "[Prenter] wanted our music to sound like you'd just walked in a gay bar...and I didn't".
@@FineArtsMusic Of course you can’t touch on every detail, but THIS detail wasn’t ‘tiny’ as you say and had a HUGE affect on the success of the LP 😂. Bri/Rog were tasks with the promotion of this LP more than Freddie ‘n Deacy ‘cos Freddie HATED the press ‘n Deacy was very shy. With Bri/Rog’s lack of enthusiasm and even calling it DISCO killed the LP sofaras Queen fans were concerned as the movement to kill DISCO was happening full force at that time.
I'll defend Calling All Girls and Action This Day. Roger recognized the New Wave trend, instead of looking backwards at disco. That said, Action This Day is a lot better live, more energy. Apparently Brian's Las Palabras de Amor was inspired by the band's connection with Latin America. That's cool, it's like Teo Torriatte. I personally enjoy Back Chat, it keeps you on edge, the way an argument would. It's Freddie's songs I have a harder time latching onto here (apart from Under Pressure), which is surprising. Body Language has a very cool bass line, but as a song it's kinda formless. From documentaries, etc. it does sound like he was perhaps a bit distracted at the time.
I agree that ATD ‘n CAG weren’t DISCO but New Wave/Neo Punk genres. And that Las Palabras De Amor was a Rock Ballad sung as a homage to their Latin fan base like how they’d done Teo Torriate for their Japanese fan base. 😂 Hahaha...I actually luv Body Language as it was quite naughty to me as a 14 goin’ on 15 y/o teenager 😉. I’m ALWAYS goin’ to have a soft spot for it in my heart ❤️. It’s not DISCO but Club/Dance music as by the time it came out, DISCO was dead. DISCO songs were made with ppl dancing with partners (think of Saturday Night Fever)...Body Language danceability is one of singular effort rather than a couple effort. There are mainly R’NB/Funk/Soul/Pop Rock songs on Hot Space. I think it was totally convenient to call it DISCO if you want it to fail at THAT time. Once it got the DISCO tag-of-death bestowed upon it, it was a wrap back then. NOW tho...now so much as the kids today luvvvvv this LP ‘n actually taken the time-out (that many so-called died-hard old school Queen fans didn’t do) to listen to it in it’s entirety IMO. They simply ran with the notion it MUST BE shit if everybody’s (cough-cough Bri/Rog) sayin’ it is while promoting it 😄.
My guilty pleasure Queen album. Of course it must've been a shock at the time for the strict rock audience, but on it's own it has so many catchy tunes. The album is a hilarious sidetrack in Queen's career and shows the playful experimental side of the band. Totally not for a narrow-perspective rock listener, but as a person who listens all kinds of weird music, this is fun experience
I like Cool Cat, ATD and Back Chat (of course Under Pressure too, but it's obvious), but apart from that, it's really hard. Live versions are a thousand times better than the studio versions, in my opinion. Great video!
@@minisizedcat4104 Yeah, Life is Real is cool, but it doesn't get my attention, for some reason :( Las Palabras de Amor is not my type, but hey, I respect you
Coming from someone who's first Queen album was Hot Space, I do disagree with some points here. First off, the album isn't entirely disco. Yes, much of it is made up of disco tracks, but Las Palabras De Amor, Put Out the Fire, Calling All Girls, Life Is Real, maybe even Dancer aren't what I'd consider "disco music". It has more variety than you make it out to be. Second, saying this album "isn't Queen" means that it's definitely Queen. They never were afraid to change up their sound, and this was perhaps just pushed further than the rest. If you want to say Queen were mainly a rock band, why did Millionaire Waltz sound like an elaborate ballet? Why is Seaside Rendezvous ragtime? Why is Delilah so damn strange? These are all considered "Queen songs", so why not add in some disco? Hell, Freddie went full on opera with Barcelona, having been known for his time with Queen, and it worked extremely well. Opera's not rock. Third, just a nitpick, on the same album We Are The Champions is featured, Get Down, Make Love is included. Basically a better Body Language, by a large margin (I can't get enough of the instrumental). On a personal note, I never entirely understood the hate for this album. I think people give it way too little credit for what it did right, which was create something completely out of their comfort zone and make it work. I think they had a really tight grasp on what makes disco work, and that shines through on Staying Power, Back Chat, and Action This Day. I may be biased, but this is some of their best work, and I even get a kick out of Body Language. The vocals are absolutely brilliant, but that's really true for the album as a whole. Seriously, though, if there's one thing everyone can agree on it's how on-point Freddie's vocals are.
A very good assessment tho none of the songs on Hot Space are true DISCO songs. Freddie dared have them go into the R’NB/Funk/Soul/Dance/Club genres but Staying Power (R’NB/Funk), Back Chat (Dance), Body Language (Dance/Club bordering on early House), and Cool Cat (full on R’NB Soul to rival Motown’s Switch/Debarge). It’s obvious that when Freddie was hanging out with Micheal Jackson, he’d heard the R’NB group Switch ‘n their off shoot sibling group called Debarge. Freddie wanted to win back those black fans they’d apparently lost when Queen were mistakingly promoted as a new R’NB group when in fact, they were a Rock group. As a result, many blacks came to their The Game Tour shows ‘n were not happy to find-out they were Rock ‘n not R’NB. That was partly Queen Production, LTD/EMI’s fault for not properly promoting Queen in the black market. Even Bowie/Elton John made appearances on Soul Train. Blacks crossed over to enjoy Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Hall & Oates...so why wouldn’t they enjoy Queen if promoted the right way? It’s clear to me that Freddie was tryin’ to win back some of these folks as he took it as a personal failure when they were rejected as a bait ‘n switch thingy. Many big city R’NB DJ’s took the hit for not investigating further ‘n Queen got accused of being in on some type of ‘trickery.’ Freddie felt it was his job to win the fans over ‘n when it didn’t happen in the black arena, he tried to go to that well one more time ‘n got lambasted by Bri/Rog ‘n the entire Queen fan base for it.
@@Motown-1966 I do somewhat agree that the album isn't as disco orianted as people make it out to be. The only two that lean more in that direction are Body Language and Staying Power, but really only because BL doesn't feature much guitar, and SP has some great horn sections. Though, even that's pushing it. I only labeled them as disco because that's what they are more commonly seen as. I think they knew disco was on it's way out, but, and I may be guessing here, people called it disco because they hated the album. Disco was seen as taboo back then, so to call it disco may have been seen as a major insult, and the term stuck with the album ever since.
@@yourfairyking Yeah...I can see how you’d labeled the LP as DISCO tho I think it was easy target (from that time period) to call it that rather than piece-out all of the true offending genre(s)...R’NB/Funk/Soul. That was the real rub for many rock fans. I think one or two songs from that genre would’ve been fine, but having SP, BC, BL, annnnnd CC was one R’NB/Funk/Soul/Dance songs too many I’m afraid 😂!
Mr Farenheit I find the chorus’s to be strong and I love that but, everything else just isn’t to my liking. I understand what the message was here though, I find the lyrics to be uninteresting and uninspiring they’re just rather bland. The more high pitched, falsetto vocal parts sound as thought they would work great in concept yet, in a execution feel out of place. I understand why people like this track however, it’s just not for me.
I’m going to start my comment out that I grew up in the 70s and loved disco music. I loved the lights, the dancing, the beat of the music, everything, so it’s no surprise I love Hot Space. I’m with you on Body Language though. I loathe the song. It’s the furthest from Queen, even more than disco itself. I do like Put Out the Fire (was playing in my head earlier this evening, actually), and enjoy Back Chat, too. I guess like Freddie says, “It’s just a bloody record” but they did wind their way back to their good rock and roll roots finally. One thing I love about Queen is they are not afraid to dip their toe in all genres of music. For some, Hot Space was a strike out while others, like me, give it a solid standing double (baseball terms, I’m from America after all). I have favorites from all albums but Queen II still remains my favorite, but Hot Space is one I do enjoy putting on play more times than not. I do like and respect your video though. ☺️
I too grew-up in the 70’s-80’s ‘n loved DISCO. However, I don’t see or feel Hot Space having any DISCO on it. Rather, it does has R’NB/Funk/Soul/New Wave/Neo Punk/Latin Pop Rock/Dance/Club. Even Body Language (which I absolutely luv) isn’t DISCO. It’s Dance/Club music. It has heavy base/synth in it ‘n no guitar solos (which I’m sure is why most ppl hate it)...having said that, it’s a good dance song. I luv it simply ‘cos I knew it was naughty ‘n as a 14-15 y/o, we’re goin’ to gravitate towards the naughty 😉! I grew-up in Philly (also American ‘n understand your Base Ball reference) ‘n got into many clubs back in the day. And if given the chance, I’d be right there on queue at Studio 54 if my older brother at 19 took me. The issue likely wouldn’t be me getting in (as I’d looked very mature for my age - fully developed early ‘n pretty), but my poor brother ‘n his friends likely wouldn’t get in ‘n no way would he allow me to enter w/o him 😂.
Hot space was one of queens more underrated albums A lot of people only hated it because it was different and disco. while they usually do rock ‘n roll For me I love hot space but I respect your opinion
Well that’s a first 😂! Most ppl say they hate Body Language but luv Action This Day ‘n Calling All Girls (especially when sung live). Can you please elaborate more on why you don’t like Calling All Girls? It’s a fun song to most ‘n I want to get a better understanding where you’re comin’ from.
You are actually wrong when you say hot space is entirely disco, sure there are some disco tracks but put out the fire, action this day and dancer are rock songs!
Rugrats fans might remember: "Aunt Didi, what's Disco?" "Oh nothing, dear. It's something that happened a long time ago and it's never ever coming back." ;D
So, you say that in 1982 disco sucked? Eh, don't forget about the best-selling album album ever - Thriller. It was released 29th November, 1982. Anyway I agree with you. Hot Space is (not the worst) but very mid album.
not the whole album is disco, what are you talking about? Put out the fire, Las Palabras de amor or, Life is real or Under Pressure is no near to disco at all...
Hot space is bad but still better than any top album of nowadays which the beats are always the same and the singers are so useless that they need to use autotune even to talk
A very good album. The songs Staying power, back chat, put out the fire, life is real, las palabras, under pressure are cool. And even Body language. The words are of course stupid, but the rhythm is super. Especially the bass beat.
@@FineArtsMusic She is very interesting. Not like more than one Queen song. She has a wonderful bass rhythm and an unusual format, and Freddie's amazing vocals. She just has very mediocre words. I will repeat the album is good, I don't only listen to Dancer
Haters gotta hate. Haven't heard a Queen song yet that I didn't like. Hot Space was different, but who wants to do the same thing over and over again. Gotta stretch those musical muscles. BTW, how many hit songs has Fine Arts written?
🙋🏾♀️ Hiya Christopher Byrne 💁🏾♀️ You've hit it on the head there! MJ just love loved "AOBTD" & he was absolutely influenced by Queen, but more importantly, Freddie's style of singing on that particular track! This is evidenced by his stark style of singing from his Off the Wall to Thriller LPs. I'm not just talking about the change in music but his way of delivering the lyrics. When listening to their "State of Shock" collaboration, ya dumbfounded as to who's who singing 'til ya hear Mike's "yee-hees" & Freddie's "owwws!" Mike heavily borrows from Freddie for his fast tracks from that LP on! Further, Freddie's first solo LP was titled "Mr. Bad Guy" right. How or why was Mike's next LP titled "Bad?" Then a lyric in that title song asks: "who's bad?" Was that not a nod (or swipe) at Freddie being that SOMETHING happened between them for their collaboration to abruptly end the way it did? Freddie is on record having said he'd missed out on appeasing on the Thriller LP. I've not heard Mike say anything about what happened to end their colab tho there are rumors from his camp that Freddie used drugs in his home & he was asked to leave. Then there's the Mercury camp saying the deal feel thru due to Mike having his llama (per Phoebe & Jim Beach) or Bubbles (per David Wigg) in studio. The llama sorry seems too ridiculous (& I don't by it) but I can see Mike having Bubbles sat at the mixing desk & asking him if he'd liked what he'd heard which was cute the first day but quickly got old the subsequent days. One thing Freddie took seriously was mixing & producing the music...I can see him grow tired of the chimp being sat there day after day. 💁🏾♀️ So you see, you're not off at all✌🏾
Motown 1966 Hiya Motown I’m glad somebody gets it.It also came out at the time when there was a backlash, particularly in the US , against disco (dance) music. They were actually burning disco albums in football stadiums. The track Backchat isn’t so good on the album but the live version on “Live at the Bowl” is fantastic. If they hadn’t tried to change their sound at the start of the Eighties, the same people would be criticising them.Long Live Queen.🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is a pretty good album to be honest. Not every song on the album is disco. Action This Day, Put Out the Fire, Calling All Girls are all rock songs pretty much. And Life is Real is a BALLAD! Next time do more research.
Hot Space is MY FAVORITE QUEEN Album. I LOVE FUNKY/ DISCO Music. My FAV song of QUEEN'S is Cool Cat. Freddie liked "club" music. DEAKY also liked disco music. QUEEN was VERY DIVERSE in their music genre. They weren't only Rock, they spanned 3,4, or even 5 types of music. When I heard Cool Cat for the first time, I thanked God for the flexible, diverse Freddie cuz without him, I doubt they'd have that particular song that is my number 1 FAVORITE song of QUEEN'S above all the other songs that QUEEN has done. There are a couple that are close. I definitely disagree with your negative comments on the songs in Hot Space! Boo to you! On the other hand, I definitely agreed with the comments you made about Freddie's lyrics in the song Don't Stop Me Now. He definitely needed to be stopped with the Hedonistic life style he was into for several years of his life! He'd still be here if he never got STARTED into that lifestyle to begin with and that goes for EVERYONE in this world. Make SMART CHOICES not stupid ones! Think of the consequences first. I learned from watching other people and never got drunk, or tripping on acid, etc. cuz I saw what they looked like when they came down off the drug and sobered up. After seeing that I decided I would NEVER do any of that. I think more of myself. None of that stuff tempts me at all! Even in the bible it says drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of Heaven. To drink and not become intoxicated or "tiosy"
It doesn’t suck at all. Seems to me that everybody jumps on the bandwagon of thrashing it. Queen has been my favorite band for 43 years and I like it a lot. The fact that it was not hip at the time, does not alter the quality of the music. Queen always been eclectic, half of the tracks aren’t even disco. Pressure, Life is Real, Action, las palabras, put out the fire... Disco?. I love Body Language, don’t take it that seriously! The band sounds creative, aggressive, it is well produced... put out the fire, Dance, Calling all Girls, Staying Power,... well all songs are great, except Cool Cat. It’s better than The Works, Jazz and Kind of Magic I think. Besides... What is wrong with Disco?
Agree with ya ‘cept on “Cool Cat” but to each there own 😂! “Cool Cat” was definitely R’NB/Soul ballad to compete with the likes of Motown’s Switch/Debarge groups. Freddie’s falsetto mirrors that of late great Bobby Debarge (who too died far too young from that hurried AIDS disease) ‘n his younger brother El. Other than that, were share the same thinkin’ on Queen’s Hot Space LP 😁
As a Village People fan, I recognize immediately that Staying Power is trying to ape their sound. Why do that, when you're already Queen? Cool Cat also sounds very dated now, which is unusual for them. I mean they were always influenced by other genres, but in this case their own voice just got a bit lost. It happens. Thankfully it wasn't their last album. :)
I’m a Village Ppl fan myself ‘n I don’t hear anything from Staying Power that remotely sounds like them. Staying Power was a R’NB/Funk song as evidenced by the horns. THATs what make it Funk/the horns. What Village Ppl song utilized horns 🤔? If anything, Staying Power was on par with Chicago 25, or 6, to 1 more than the Village Ppl. It’s also more on par with Wild Cherry’s Play that Funky Music, KC ‘n the Sunshine Band (pick any song that featured horns), The O.H.I.O. Players, Kool ‘ the Gang pre J.T. Taylor, Tower of Power is another Funk band that comes to mind as well. And of course, I would be remiss if I forget to mention the late-great James Brown with Maceo Parker (his famous horn player). Sofaras Cool Cat goes, it was Freddie’s attempt to capture some of that Motown magic they had with their groups Switch ‘n Debarge. So you’re right sayin’ it sounds dated. As you may know, MJ’s baby sister Janet married one of the Debarge boys (James) who was in that group ‘n I’m sure Freddie had heard their music while hanging out with MJ. I’m convinced Mike was impressed by them as he’d started wearing a Jerri Curl to look more like them to get more girls. MJ was equally impressed...even enchanted with Freddie’s style of singing. Mike goes through a significant voice change from his Off the Wall to his subsequent Thriller LP (that Freddie was supposed to appear on). During this era, sometimes you can close your eyes ‘n hear Freddie singing on that LP ‘n Mike singing on a few Queen cuts...that’s how closely their voices aligned at that time. It’s a shame that their duets didn’t happen in their lifetimes.
UGH - It doesn't suck! But I'll watch this to see where you're coming from. Edit: It's 2020 and Hot Space remains near the top of my stack of recently played CDs. The variety is wonderful. My biggest issue - can't read the lyrics due to the CD insert colours. Remember Queen prided themselves on -- always said they didn't want to be genre pigeonholed. Love - Back Chat, Action This Day, Life Is Real, Calling All Girls, Las Palabras...,Under Pressure. Like the rest EXCEPT could do without Body Language even keeping in mind it was a money maker.
@Ames Pelletier The point is the OP stated Bri’s fabulous guitar solos were missing ‘n they weren’t on a lot of the songs as mentioned above. Whether Deacy played lead guitar on Back Chat ‘n Bri played the solo on it isn’t the issue. The point is tha Bri has quite a few solos on the entire LP.
Revisited the album recently and it isn’t as bad as I remember. The track sequence and instruments used (or removed) let it down. Moving Under Pressure to middle of Side One and putting down real instruments instead of 80s drum machines would have made it so much better. Losing the excellent Bowie version of Cool Cat at the last minute and leaving Soul Brother off for crap like Dancer didn’t do the album any favours. Still I give Hot Space 5/10 these days. Hot Space Fixed A Staying Power Back Chat Under Pressure Soul Brother Body Language B Put Out The Fire Calling All Girls Cool Cat Action This Day La Palabras De Amour
Hot Space does not suck!!!! Its got good songs. Same happens with Mr. Bad Guy album. I can't understand why they are considered bad albums. I like them both & listen to them often.
Astro 💁🏾♀️ Exactly! There's actually no DISCO on the LP but ppl (at the time & now) dismissed it as such. The LP had a mixture of R'NB, dance funk (which is being mistaken as DISCO), Spanish, new wave, AND rock✌🏾!
Oh god here we go again with dumby hot space critics recycling the same reviews from the 80s *yawns while listening to Soul Brother* (a pure “disco” track……😅😂NOT) Thing is if you’re a big Queen fan, hot space gives a different and unique side to Queen which is sometimes refreshing.
Cee Dee 💁🏾♀️ Freddie often did that as their frontman. He'd often took the hits for this LP that also had new wave, R'NB, dance funk (which is being mistaken for DISCO BTW), as well as Spanish & rock. This LP's no different with Queen goin' outside the rock genre than then doin' ragtime on ANATO, ADATR, & Jazz! The only thing that many ppl got put off by are the drum machine and synthesizers sounds. Hot Space was a Deacy LP 'n Freddie got onboard to support him in his R'NB/dance funk songs whereas the other two let it be known publicly they didn't like it. So Freddie stepped up 'n took the blame for the LP as their frontman (& dear I say leader)so that Deacy wouldn't get crushed✌🏾!
Also, you got one more thing wrong, they did have variety, only less than half of the songs were disco, the rest were rock, ballad, and other genres. This was a true Queen album.
The great truth, the members of Queen were not only rock stars, but, they were above all real musicians and all real great composers, they were "incapable" of making ordinary music, with them it was. almost a "fatality". do something good !!! All of Queen's albums are good albums, I mean ALL !!! P.S. You don't just have to hear the music, you have to listen to it 😉
I’m not sure how you could be more incorrect in your analysis. None of these songs are true Disco. The album is not for everyone which could be said of any Queen.
Agreed! None of the songs on Hot Space are DISCO. The thing is: it had a few R’NB/Funk/Soul which Freddie felt the need to apologize for some reason (cough-cough Bri/Rog)! THEY didn’t wanna explore the R’NB/Funk/Soul genres more than a song at any one time on their LPs. The problem was that when their previous LP, The Game, came out, many Black stations picked-up the Another One Bites the Dust single (as well as Dragon Attack) as Queen hadn’t officially released them as singles but MJ convinced them to. As a result, Queen were promoted by these Black radio stations as a new black/R’NB group ‘n when Queen came over for their shows, many tickets were brought-up by these very black fans who weren’t aware that Queen were a ROCK band. It was a promotional disaster as far as I’m concerned. Had Queen been properly promoted say on Soul Train (like Bowie ‘n Elton John), the Blacks would’ve understood more clearly who Queen were. The subsequent rejection of them to the Black American fans cut deep into Freddie more than any of the others. To him, he felt it his duty to win over fans ‘n this was a failure of his hence the follow-up Staying Power, Back Chat, Body Language, ‘n Cool Cat. He got Deacy to collaborate with him on this aspect as he too loved the Motown sound. When Hot Space was promoted by Bri/Rog, their lack of enthusiasm ‘n mentioning of it being a DISCO LP killed it for their traditional Rock fans.
So your main arguments about the most versatile rock/pop band are "but...but... but Queen is a rock band! How dare they release an album that is not rock!" and "they should follow the trend and have released disco when disco was in", although Hot Space inspired Thriller which again made disco trendy again one year later. Hmmm... 😁😁 BTW no one ever complained that the Queen 2 album was mostly prog metal/prog rock or that The Game was mostly rockabily.
Exactly! Queen started out as a progressive rock band that morphed into arena rock then pop rock. They’d dibbled and dabbed into other genres but basically remained in rock. Why is it okay for them to pay homage to their Japanese ‘n Latin fans but not try to branch-out to obtain Black fans based in R’NB/Funk/Soul (which got mistakingly tagged as DISCO). Freddie himself felt the need to apologized to the fans at the live shows for them doin’ just that...SMDH!
@@Motown-1966 actually Freddie was so fed up by the hostile reaction of the live audience to the HOT SPACE material that he once told them "When you don't want to hear it... fucking go home!" :-)
@@mori1bund 😂😂😂😂....I’m sure that was his immediate visceral reaction; however, I’m sure that bothered him to no end as Freddie felt he’d had a connection of sorts to black ppl and their music. He was a life-long fan of Rock ‘N Roll which is based in black music. Freddie had black servants early-on in his life ‘n likely had an affection for them. His all-time favorite singer was Arthea Franklin. Freddie was exposed to a lot of Soul music and being the Frontman that he was, he felt it his charge to win over as many new fans as he could. This was a personal challege for him I’m sure. I say this based on many of his interviews but particularly, the one he’d gave for E.T. (Entertainment Tonight).
I think you don't understand that they make music out of passion, not by "will this album be loved? Is this album going to make money?". yes they were popular for their rock songs, but a lot of bands stopped because they couldn't do anything other than what they always had, because of their audience. I love queen because they didn't always rock, and to say that this album was bad because people didn't like disco anymore or that it was out of fashion is against the creativity of the music.
I honestly don’t feel like this album is as bad as everyone says it is. If this album was released say in between News of The World and The Game, the album could’ve been better received. Even if Body Language, the weakest Queen song, there are great songs like Las Palabras De Amor, Under Pressure, Life is Real, Action this Day, Cool Cat, Put Out the Fire, and more. This album is fine on its own, but as a Queen album, it’s fine, but very disappointing
I don't think that Another One Bites The Dust is a disco song. It's a funk/pop song. But that's just a small complaint, I enjoyed the vid overall. Keep it up. I'd love to see more on Michael Jackson and Britney Spears... #MJinnocent #FreeBritney
🙋🏾♀️ ErrorEN 💁🏾♀️ It isn’t. Neither is Hot Space LP for that matter. For some reason, ppl are putting this LP in the DISCO box but it's hasn't any DISCO songs on it. Rather, it contains R'NB, dance funk, new wave, soul, Latin, & rock...no DISCO✌🏾!
Yea, Under Pressure, Las Palabras and Life Is Real are astounding though, the rest of the album (in my opinion) has little to no substance. Those three tracks are really all I like about hot space but, the album covers pretty cool and iconic
Yes, I think so. They are too late to releasing the disco. Disco is popular in 70s, when most artists like Donna Summer, Bee Gees, Village People, Abba making disco. They still rock n’ roll.
The thing is, it’s not DISCO! Hot Space got that terrible tag placed on it as the movement to kill DISCO was underway back in ‘81-‘82. That LP is a well mixture of R’NB/Funk/Soul/New Wave/Neo Punk/Pop Rock/Latin Pop Rock/Dance/Club music. Not a single song on it was DISCO. Staying Power/Back Chat were R’NB/Funk while Cool Cat was R’NB Soul (which Freddie de spare toy tried to lure the Blacks back with as many thought Queen were a R’NB group with Another One Bites the Dust). Body Language was Dance/Club music...not DISCO. Action this Day/Callin’ All Girls were New Wave/Neo Punk. Las Palabras De Amor was a Pop Rock ballad homage for their Latin fans. Under Pressure I’d say was Neo Pop Rock. Dancer was str8-up Rock. Life is Real was of course a Pop Rock ballad written in Lennon’s style as a homage to him (like Crazy Little Thing Called Love was for Elvis). So you see, Hot Space was a fantastically mixed genre of music that didn’t even have any DISCO on it.
"The Works" sucks. Hot Space is O.K. But there should be no "Under Pressure". Also "Las Palabras de Amor" is boring. But 1st side is super, and "Put out the Fire", Life is Real" and "Cool Cat" are pretty good songs.
Hot Space is the second most enjoyable Queen album after Jazz, and I will die on this hill. I love it when bands can have fun and not take themselves too seriously. 🙂
No, I just checked it out again and I think it’s pretty strong. Not the usual Queen, granted, but there’s enough of ‘the usual’ Queen out there so a deviation is fine, so long as it’s a quality deviation, and Hot Space is.
Yeah, I took a listen to it again the other day and in light of the great albums it just kind of sucks. They ought to have rejigged the order with under pressure, put out the fire, song for Lennon, las parables..
What is your problem with Put Out The Fire? This is a rock song, not a disco title. I love it! And what about Life Is Real (Song For Lennon) which isn’t a disco track either?
There were times i don't really like the album and i still think it's not one of their best, but Hot Space isn't that bad after all. Some of the funk/ disco/ electric tunes are nice and on stage Queen gave them a real boost. Fun album.
I’ve heard a lot of comments saying that they love Hot Space but I have varying opinions on the songs: Staying Power is good Dancer is kind of boring Back Chat is good Body Language is so bad that I find it quite funny Action this day is mediocre Put out the fire is good Life is real is ok Las Palabras De Amor is a masterpiece Cool cat is the worst song that they ever did. It sounds so soulless and repetitive. Under Pressure is great
What are your thoughts on Hot Space?
Favourite tracks from the album?
Make sure to like, share and subscribe for more content like this!
My favourite track is calling all girls
trenosos yea, Body Language is possibly Queen’s worst song
under pressure and life is real
Hot space is far from perfect but under pressure is a true masterpiece
las palabras de amor
I disagree strongly. Hot Space is an album that I listen to frequently and enjoy it every time. Here is an anecdote and a testimony to Queen’s brilliance and diverse skills. One day here at home I was listening to Hot Space on some good quality speakers. My husband, not a Queen fan, asked me to play a track again. It was “Staying Power”. He said he was glad I was listening to someone else besides Queen. The laugh was on him!
Leslie Farrar sounds like my house!😂
Hot space is my favorite Queen record hands down! Lots of groove and funky tunes man
@@martincruz3174 Mine too man. You have excellent taste in liking all genres of Queen
Ok, so, you didn’t really listen to that album very often, did you?
Ok, here‘s the deal: there are some disco-ish songs on there:
- staying power
- dancer
- back chat
- body language
- action this day
Two of those 5 songs (dancer and action) are not really „disco“ but rocksongs put into a disco-disguise.
Half of the other tracks are very mich NOT disco at all:
- put out the fire (rock)
- life is real (ballad)
- calling all girls (folk-pop-rock)
- las palabras de amor (pop-ballad)
- cool cat (a soulful midtempo track, no disco)
- under pressure (we all know that song)
So, we could say that side one is a bit disco, side two is no disco.
That's because there are real drums
It's not their best but it's kind of fun.
(I do think Back Chat is an excellent disco song tho.)
I’m going to have to agree with you on Back Chat, Back Chat is catchy and thrilling.
The demo of back chat is also good with different lyrics
my favorite songs from the album are: Back Chat, Put out the fire, Under Pressure and definitely Cool Cat. With Back Chat and Cool Cat both in my top 10 favorite Queen Songs ever. But I can understand why people dont like the album
Hot space is one of my favorite albums cause it's different, also how can you not like cool cat?
Me to. That's what made queen so fantastic never just the same sound always different an i loved how you got studio sound then different when live i love this album on full blast when im cleaning ❤
@@minisizedcat4104 I love that 1 aswell. I don't think there's many I don't like lolll

It says a lot for the public expectations of Queen that an album that produces several top 20 hits is considered a “failure”.
Bunny Lyons 💁🏾♀️ Exactly!✌🏾!
I absolutely adore Put Out The Fire, along with Life Is Real...
Life Is Real is definitely one of the better tracks this album has to offer, it made for a fitting tribute to John Lennon
Put Out The Fire is also one of my favs off the album
@Thomas Anderson Thx you! I think Flash Gordon is their worst LP to date.
Why skip Body Language? In my opinion, its one of the best songs on the record. That and Cool Cat, Back Chat and others
Everyone hates hot space but its their 5th most successful album!
If they had worked better as a band and hadnt obsessed over people will think its gay club music and dragged it out for 9 months it would have been much better and had more balance to it
Just because Freddie wanted to explore more funk and dance music the whole album didnt need to be and it wasn't!
It just didn't have much rock
Every time Freddie has success, its all its the band not just Freddie !
When something doesn't work all fingers point at Freddie!
Im glad im seeing more comments liking it
The band let Freddie and themselves down on this one
It doesnt matter if Freddie wanted to do something new,you create a good working environment so everyones at their best, give your best and find a compromise
But on this they made it difficult and stressful
Despite all that it still has good tracks
Its just frustrating that it could have been much better
But imo the band have to look at their own input on this,Freddie was one of four people!
But I doubt their giving him credit now its their 5th successful album!?
Its not just the tracks, its the fact they made it clear in videos and interviews they weren't really behind the album
When they said something positive it didn't come accross very convincing
Why is everyone insisting its a disco album it isnt!
Exactly!
I love ‘Back chat’ so much!
Say what you want about the rest of this album but Cool Cat, Under Pressure, Las Palabras, Put Out The Fire, and Life Is Real are great songs.
Hot Space is amazing it doesn't suck at all
I hate how this guy doesn’t bring up the albums other phenomenal songs. “Put Out the Fire” & “Life is Real” are absolutely amazing.
It bloody does.
The majority of the album sounds like the demo of something, mechanical and uninspired.
@@---ce7gq that is more likely your bias towards a specific sound than anything else
Why do people describe Body Language as disco? It doesn't sound anything like disco, it's funk. Or funk/disco I suppose.
Just because you don't like it that doesn't mean it sucks.
Hot Space is my third favourite Queen album beaten by The Miracle and A Night At The Opera
I saw Queen live in 1982 and I couldn't believe how much better the Hot Space songs were live! They were raw, more dynamic and they added more guitar. 👏🏼
👑 🟥🟦🟩🟨 👑
What Queen tried and failed to do with Hot Space, the Red Hot Chili Peppers did 10 times better. If Freddie lived in the 90s, I have a strong feeling that Queen would've gone for a Chili Peppers type sound since that was a perfect balance between Freddie' and Johns love for Dance music and Brian and John's love for Rock
While this isn't a classic Queen album full of anthems and just Queen in general but I consider this album amazing with it's catchy tunes but we all have different tastes
I believe that Hot Space would have performed better if 'Body Language' wasn't included. I've listened to it myself and it has has some lovely songs.
I can’t mention every tiny little detail, I just touched on the main points for my argument
Hot Space is my favorite Queen album! I love every single song on it❤💙💚💛
yes same
@@diabolusvincit So to have an opinion and a preference that doesn't make me a fan?... haha
Agreed!
I like Cool Cat, ATD and Back Chat (of course Under Pressure too, but it's obvious), but apart from that, it's really hard. Live versions are a thousand times better than the studio versions, in my opinion. Great video!
nickelodeon dog 💁🏾♀️ Yeah but that's your opinion. Spyon doesn't see it like that which is why they'd didn't list those songs✌🏾!
Can i ask what you do not like about Put Out The Fire?
Mr Farenheit I find the chorus’s to be strong and I love that but, everything else just isn’t to my liking. I understand what the message was here though, I find the lyrics to be uninteresting and uninspiring they’re just rather bland. The more high pitched, falsetto vocal parts sound as thought they would work great in concept yet, in a execution feel out of place. I understand why people like this track however, it’s just not for me.
Fine Arts fair enough and I respect your opinion (:
Body Language is one of my absolute Queen favourites. ❤
Back Chat is fucking dangerous live!
i thought my video was in .5 speed... talk quicker damn
Hot space was one of queens more underrated albums A lot of people only hated it because it was different and disco. while they usually do rock ‘n roll For me I love hot space but I respect your opinion
Why do I like every single song in the album-
You brought up some good points fine arts. but this album still has my favourite song on it under pressure
Indeed, but I for me at least even Under Pressure can’t save Hot Space, especially when compared to other Queen albums
besides calling all girls i think this album fucking SLAPS. i get its different but damn some of them tracks are jamin!
@@Motown-1966 it just feels kinda lazy and underwhelming for a Queen song. or for any song really. It doesnt spark anything for me like others do
@@ItsOver9000Productions Fair enough!
You are actually wrong when you say hot space is entirely disco, sure there are some disco tracks but put out the fire, action this day and dancer are rock songs!
Rugrats fans might remember: "Aunt Didi, what's Disco?"
"Oh nothing, dear.
I know that some (many? most?) Queen fans just don't get the point of this album.
I loved it when it first came out - and I still do!
Back Chat, Life is Real, Staying Power, Cool Cat, Put out the fire, Under Pressure - how can this album be seen that bad? I don't know.
not the whole album is disco, what are you talking about? Put out the fire, Las Palabras de amor or, Life is real or Under Pressure is no near to disco at all...
Hot space is bad but still better than any top album of nowadays which the beats are always the same and the singers are so useless that they need to use autotune even to talk
Body Language is probably my favourite Queen song of all time. I'm not a big fan of rock music I have to admit.
A very good album. The songs Staying power, back chat, put out the fire, life is real, las palabras, under pressure are cool. And even Body language. The words are of course stupid, but the rhythm is super. Especially the bass beat.
If you like Body Language then good for you but, really!?
@@FineArtsMusic She is very interesting. Not like more than one Queen song. She has a wonderful bass rhythm and an unusual format, and Freddie's amazing vocals. She just has very mediocre words. I will repeat the album is good, I don't only listen to Dancer
@@pluto488 Are you a fool
@@pluto488 so we talked
I love body language and the video for it is HOT 😜
Haters gotta hate. Haven't heard a Queen song yet that I didn't like. Hot Space was different, but who wants to do the same thing over and over again. Gotta stretch those musical muscles. BTW, how many hit songs has Fine Arts written?
Give it another chance. It was ahead of it’s time (Thriller?).A funky album with great rock drums and guitar.
💁🏾♀️ So you see, you're not off at all✌🏾
Motown 1966
Hiya Motown
I’m glad somebody gets it.It also came out at the time when there was a backlash, particularly in the US , against disco (dance) music. They were actually burning disco albums in football stadiums. The track Backchat isn’t so good on the album but the live version on “Live at the Bowl” is fantastic. If they hadn’t tried to change their sound at the start of the Eighties, the same people would be criticising them.Long Live Queen.🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪❤️❤️❤️❤️
bro how do u not like cool cat, body language, back chat and put out the fire? those songs are amazing
Under Pressure is cool
I think it is one of there weaker albums but I wouldnt say it sucks
As a Village People fan, I recognize immediately that Staying Power is trying to ape their sound. Why do that, when you're already Queen? Cool Cat also sounds very dated now, which is unusual for them. I mean they were always influenced by other genres, but in this case their own voice just got a bit lost. It happens. Thankfully it wasn't their last album. :)
@@minisizedcat4104 Agreed!
Love - Back Chat, Action This Day, Life Is Real,
Calling All Girls, Las Palabras...,Under Pressure.
Like the rest EXCEPT
could do without Body Language even keeping in mind it was a money maker.
Brian’s fabulous guitar solos are missing on these tracks.
Dancer & Put Out The Fire??????
Back chat?
@Burlstuff dude, Brian played the solo

Hot Space does not suck!!!! Its got good songs. Same happens with Mr. Bad Guy album. I can't understand why they are considered bad albums. I like them both & listen to them often.
I love disco and the second half of the album isn't disco
Astro 💁🏾♀️ Exactly! There's actually no DISCO on the LP but ppl (at the time & now) dismissed it as such. The LP had a mixture of R'NB, dance funk (which is being mistaken as DISCO), Spanish, new wave, AND rock✌🏾!
Oh god here we go again with dumby hot space critics recycling the same reviews from the 80s *yawns while listening to Soul Brother* (a pure “disco” track……😅😂NOT)
Thing is if you’re a big Queen fan, hot space gives a different and unique side to Queen which is sometimes refreshing.
Hot Space is way better than The Miracle.
Freddie Mercury said in many interviews -- Hot Space was his idea and concept, and he had to drag the rest of the band to do it. So blame him.
I love dancer and under pressure
This my fav album by them, and that's saying a lot since I am an avid in the Queen fandom and as a listener, I disliked.
Also, you got one more thing wrong, they did have variety, only less than half of the songs were disco, the rest were rock, ballad, and other genres. This was a true Queen album.
I actually love the album, the only song I don’t really like is Body Language
I love Hot Space it doesn’t suck at all
The great truth, the members of Queen were not only rock stars, but, they were above all real musicians and all real great composers, they were "incapable" of making ordinary music, with them it was. almost a "fatality". do something good !!! All of Queen's albums are good albums, I mean ALL !!!
P.S. You don't just have to hear the music, you have to listen to it 😉
They made a disco album and what
It's not disco. It's queen
I love hot space. Synthesis is my lover.
Hmmm... 😁😁
BTW no one ever complained that the Queen 2 album was mostly prog metal/prog rock or that The Game was mostly rockabily.
The thing I don’t understand is that this LP actually charted #4 on the UK charts when it came out. How then can it be a failure?
Hot Space is a grey area for me. It’s not the best but has some of the best tracks like Under Pressure and Las Palabras de Amor
Yea, Under Pressure, Las Palabras and Life Is Real are astounding though, the rest of the album (in my opinion) has little to no substance. Those three tracks are really all I like about hot space but, the album covers pretty cool and iconic
Fine Arts it’s definitely their worst album by far.
@@electrsaur9095 IDT so...Flash Gordon’s their worst by far 😂!
@@Motown-1966 not wrong.
Yes, I think so. They are too late to releasing the disco. Disco is popular in 70s, when most artists like Donna Summer, Bee Gees, Village People, Abba making disco. They still rock n’ roll.
4:23 "However, you have to remember that this album is by Queen" I KNOW THE ALBUM IS BY QUEEN,WHY YOU MUST SAY IT AGAIN DUM-DUM
I honestly don’t mind that it’s all disco it’s just music to listen to
The thing is, it’s not DISCO!
I love YOU AND I from a day at the races
How are you from a day at the races?
Hot Space is the second most enjoyable Queen album after Jazz, and I will die on this hill. I love it when bands can have fun and not take themselves too seriously. 🙂
No, I just checked it out again and I think it’s pretty strong. Not the usual Queen, granted, but there’s enough of ‘the usual’ Queen out there so a deviation is fine, so long as it’s a quality deviation, and Hot Space is.
Under Pressure, Dancer, Action this day, Life is real, Put out the fire and Las parablas de amor were pretty good. Everything else is too disco.
Cool Cat is WOW WOW WOW - Freddie’s falsetto unbelievable - to absolutely die for. Gorgeous song. No wonder Michael Jackson loved this album so much.
Yeah, I took a listen to it again the other day and in light of the great albums it just kind of sucks. They ought to have rejigged the order with under pressure, put out the fire, song for Lennon, las parables..
Hot space is awesome
Omg Body Language is a great song! Super 80's synth!!! I disagree its a very catchy song! 🎹
Ngl I like the '92 remix of body Language better
What is your problem with Put Out The Fire? This is a rock song, not a disco title. I love it! And what about Life Is Real (Song For Lennon) which isn’t a disco track either?
There were times i don't really like the album and i still think it's not one of their best, but Hot Space isn't that bad after all. Some of the funk/ disco/ electric tunes are nice and on stage Queen gave them a real boost. Fun album.
If I actually got Hot Space I'm letting all the boys down....
staying power is good, las palabras de amor is fine, cool cat is ok, under pressure is under pressure. the rest is bad.
I’ve heard a lot of comments saying that they love Hot Space but I have varying opinions on the songs:
Staying Power is good
Dancer is kind of boring
Back Chat is good
Body Language is so bad that I find it quite funny
Action this day is mediocre
Put out the fire is good
Life is real is ok
Las Palabras De Amor is a masterpiece
Cool cat is the worst song that they ever did. It sounds so soulless and repetitive.
Under Pressure is great
