You're exactly right that Drake is a producer and knows to be understated and bring the sauce as you say. He switched up his whole style and got really simplified since around the God's Plan era. Notice how simple his verses became and how many switch ups in tempo he has after that period vs before. He just started thinking like a producer and made even more hits.

Like I'm not seeing the real Drake, just a really well crafted character, and that's always bothered me despite his talent. And sometimes, it's enough to make me just not like the music. Plus, his quality control is horrible at times. He will drop the most CLUNKER of bad bars to be considered one of the three in contention as the GOAT from this generation.
