L.A. City Garbage Trucks Eating Christmas Trees

- 5 different Peterbilt/Amrep garbage trucks (4 automated side loaders plus a front loader) collecting Christmas trees in the weeks following Christmas 2016. The city's Bureau of Sanitation collects trees for free from both the curb and at designated drop off sites following the holiday. They are collected with the regular yard waste which is turned into mulch and is available for redistribution to city residents.

Twas the day after christmas and all through LA cans line the streets with trees thrown away the presents opened the stockings unstuffed time to say goodbye to the tree that was once vibrant and fluffed route after route truck after truck collecting tress quick and stout reduced once used now recycled till next christmas those lush trees we will miss

There used to be two guys that jumped off of a compactor truck, dented your metal trash cans on the edge of the truck, and jumped back on the little platform at the rear of the truck and yelled GO AHEAD!
Still got that in many places, although most new bins are plastic instead of metal

The way there units grab up the Christmas trees, especially the ones in the containers reminds me of the old Robo-cop the series, where all you would need is Robo Cop saying "thank you for your cooperation"

Scott Porter that's funny, because the only 15 yard cans out there are rolloffs. In the event that you did shove 65 yards of material into one, there's no way covering it for transfer would be possible, and therefore it wouldn't be collected and you would be the one getting laughed at.

All the trucks in this video use the same lifting system that is used in my country: Lifting by means of a conveyor belt and a hydraulic tilting system for the belt itself, apart from the iconic clamps.
And that in the US, most garbage trucks, apart from having clamps, only have a hydraulic system both to bring the containers closer and to lift them.

Very nice compilation Tony! The yellow mini was a surprise for me I didnt know that they would use those for XMas trees too. I was laughing when the tree didnt go im lol. 296 was fun to watch too, how many times did he have to go dump. Great video!

Why can't we have trucks like this in the UK?
They are an absolute nightmare with our tight streets and you can only collect one side of the road at a time. Also, because our houses are so much older, some cannot store wheeled bins so have bag collections, making the use of rear loading vehicles 100% necessary. These have been tried in the past, and were a catastrophic failure

I still don't understand why I don't get this service. For many many years now and 3 different greenwaste drivers later I haven't had one that takes every single xmas tree. Last year I believe a front loader came in the end but this year they were really bi polar about it. I thought it was part of their daily tasks after Xmas time.
yeah, it's annoying how weird they are about it. All of the West LA drivers (for the most part, I guess I should say) take all trees inside of carts, but fewer and fewer every year will take them if they're on the ground. I totally lucked out that pretty much the only two in my area that did were Kirk's driver and the N3 driver. I heard rumors that front loaders were supposed to sweep everything and that's why most drivers wouldn't take them but idk if that ever happened

I hate seeing technology take jobs and food off of people’s table. What used to be a two man job is now done by one. This will just keep on happening. Look in fast food restaurant. Cashier are almost nonexistent as well as in big box stores. That’s why I will never use self checkout.
