I totally agree, everyone seems so kind and helpfull. Alot of the peoe on the channel do engineering as a day job and in their spare time , so they obviously have a passion, just like alot of viewers also. I have a small workshop at home and work in same environment too. Alot of people would have had enough of it by the time they get home, but im gagging to get out into the shop. 😀👍

A flute matched diameter mounted wheel in a die grinder, also works for sharpening an inked up tap held in a bench vise. For those that cant afford machine tools, using hand-tools in a careful manner accomplishes a lot of tasks.

Great Video Steve! .... good to see you use the radius dresser, and that it worked! I am sure others have also, but I have picked up several lots of collets over the years, and have duplicates ..... let us know what you are missing! Great to see the garden! ... it made me miss my Mom, and the old cool basement full of wall to wall canned goodies .... from beets to mince meat!

Nice job on the tap. Even if you grind it undersize (thread diameter shrinking because of back relief) on a resharpen that can also be useful. On some nasty materials I like to rough out the threads with an undersize tap then chase them with a standard size. It cuts down on tap breakage.

Hi Steve. A thought popped in my head while watching this video.
I wonder if it would be worth the time & effort to fabricate a spring loaded
Plunger to hold the work against the stop on the grinder. At the very least,
it would be one less thing to do while grinding intsead of holding it with your hand.

Hey Steve! Great video. I finally got my grinder running again so I'm feeling anxious to get all the fixtures you have, now that I'm seeing better how they are used.
I don't mean to creep you out or anything, but if you go back and watch closely you'll see that during the meet and greet there's a beautiful woman standing at the far end of the near table, then later *the same woman* can be seen standing behind the corn *in your garden* staring at you. I don't know if she's *stalking* you, but it doesn't take a psychologist to see that she's really into you. 😉

Jon Miller That made me and my wife laugh 😂. Thanks Jon. They are tons of fixtures that go along with a tool grinder. I got lucky and got several with my little grinder. They can be kind of hard to find. Most get separated when a grinder gets sold. Most people don't even know what they are. Thanks for watching and commenting. Always good to see you over here.

No idea.. but think that would be a job for the ID head on a cylindrical grinder... relief would be a issue.. end up cheaper to buy a new tap. Small disk with the clearance you need .
You need a universal head.. to gain your clearance needed..

Hi Steve: I just watched one of your videos for the first time although I've been following the usual suspects for quite awhile (Abom79, MrPete, Lipton, Rucker, Fenner, etc.). I found your content very interesting, although I will probably take my cutters to a guy like you who is equipped and knowledgable. However, I was most impressed by your video production. Well scripted and interesting topic. Good pace-not too slow or fast. Also quality of video is excellent. What video cameras do you use? What editing software? Very nicely done, thanks.

The lead on some taps need to be sharpened themselves with a cam fixture used on grinding machines

    • @vincentgizdich2842
      @vincentgizdich2842 Рік тому

Yes for the lead relief. He mentioned the tap was relieved radially like up the full length so the diameter of the tap will change a minimal amount. I used a mic to try and find how much of a relief if any was used and I couldn't find a measurable amount on the few I had measured. Do you know if they all have the relief cut in that way? It makes sense to me that there is a limited amount to clean up before the tap would become un stable but I wanna know how far they could be taken before the threads come out tight.

Only special taps have radial relief the whole length of the tap. I have made odd taps in a pinch out of O-1 and that is not how you sharpen a tap. All the work is being done at the lead of the tap. The rest of the tap is along for the ride. Most shops just cut the lead off and re-sharpen.

Wade LOL, I am a nice guy and have always been exactly who I am in real life on video. Thanks for "The truth bomb" 😃My wife is the one who wants me keep the beard. I appreciate your concern but I think we have everything under control over here. No hard feelings. 👍

Steve, I love your videos! I appreciate all the information you give! You’re a very talented machinist! My one complaint (take it or leave it) please consider moving your microphone away from your throat. Hearing you swallow just gives me the chills! Regardless I’m still going to watch your channel simply a suggestion! Please keep the videos rolling Steve! Thanks Tyler
