Lion: Oh yeah 8 year old Nutmeg: * Changes form in to a older man with grey hair and a nice suit. * "Hi am Chris Hansen with Dateline NBCs to catch a predator, Why don't you have a seat?"
As to not break character, I'd say 'she is teleported out by a magic item she happens to have. Teleporting in to share the spot on the side of the bed, and now *firmly* grasping your wrist, is an old and very powerful wizard... and he does not seem to be the least bit happy.'
As a creepy aside, right at the point in the story where the creep said "I have nutmeg sit on the bed with me" the video immediately broke into cheering. I immediately looked up from my cleaning saying "what the f*ck" before realizing an ad for a sports channel had started running.
"YoU'rE nErFiNg Me" and "I nEvEr Do AnYtHiNg UsEfUl" The dude really acted as if s.xually harassing a child would be the most useful thing to do, and because OP didn't consent with this weird ass scenario in a tabletop rpg. What he thought would happen? "Oh, Lion, you're such a wild card in the team, we can always count on you when we need a groomer, what a hero." ... The lack of self awareness is always amazing in RPG horror stories.
I would love to see his list of "what not to do as a DM." What's on there? "Allow players to diddle children when they wish?" "Give players exactly what they want regardless of logic?" "Give all the loot to the first nonce who found it regardless of context?"
DM: “let’s play this out then… suddenly you see nutmegs form change, in front of you is a massive goliath rockin a knee knocker, he looks at you an winks before grabbing your arm.” Turns out Nutmeg wasn’t what she appeared to be…lmao 😂😂😂
@@beardedwonder8333 I remember a story where a bard went around "seducing" a lot. He rolled a Nat 20 once to seduce a dragon. DM told him to roll another Nat 20. Bard said "What for? I already rolled for seduction." DM said "To see how many D6's of damage you take." Bard looked confused. DM said "Male Dragon."
I think calling him a “that guy” is extremely underestimating the situation. I believe the fact that he was willing to do this at all just furthers my belief that he’s just a straight up predator
probably even psychopathic, since he thought a laboratory smelling like a cleaning facility was a s** dungeon... so... creepy, predatory psychpath and a total nutcase...
Lion: *tries to do unspeakably awful things to Nutmeg* Me if I was the DM: “Nutmeg reveals her true form, that of *insert most powerful monster in the game setting here*. She immediately devours your character, and you don’t need to make a new one, because you’re out of this campaign. I don’t allow ped0philes in my games.”
Sounds appropriate to me. But really she had already turned into fog. She could have shot down his throat into his lungs and drown him from the inside. And there would be nothing he could really do about it that wouldn't kill his character anyways.
Terrasque? At least in the older editions, Terrasque was something you did not want to fight, just run from. Unless you were 99.99% sure you had a chance, speed was it's only real weakness, flee.
that man is so telling on himself with the scent of bleach and metal smelling like a sex dungeon to him, and the immediate attempt to do, uh, THAT with a CHILD CHARACTER
Ah yes, the good old s*x dungeons that look like a laboratory and smell like chemicals... What the heck is wrong with that guy to assume so? okay, let's be honest "whst is right with him" should be easier to list, since it is a smaller list I guess...
The idea that he says a place smells like bleach is a "sex dungeon" is extremely worrying. Why would it smell that strongly of bleach, unless death and mutilation is involved.
why do i get the horrifically concerning feeling he didn't say anything about it the next session was because he headcanoned during the week that the act was committed in full and as far as he was concerned he had that "special connection" to her, hence the clinging to her side
All right, when I heard the first story I was like "Well, that was ok, OP is learning and yes, the guy was creepy, but at least nothing THAT bad happened." Than I saw there's 10 minutes left and I said...Oh God what have you done now lion?
Dude was wanted to ERP with an 8 year old....so NO he doesn't get a second chance to "live his dream". You are 100% wrong on giving him another chance. Seriously other players were gonna bail because the Lone Lion was such a PoS
If I had a guy who’s first act when seeing a child is to do THAT, instantaneous Ban from my group and Knucle sandwich with an extra whoop-ass to the face.
Yeah, this is definitely giving new DM vibe, after almost 10 years of DMing, my response would absolutely be nuclear to a PC trying this in-game. Kid characters exist for cute bonding moments and absolutely eviscerating the PCs emotionally if you do anything to them (also fun twist villains), if a PC were creepy to one I'm retroactively deciding that kid is a level 15 barbarian or a disguised dragon and they're getting smote
Lion: "I ask Nutmeg if she has ever thought adult thought." Nutmeg responds with comment about science and experiences. Me if i was Lion: "Yes science, you see that" point at science equipment " That was probably used to make these things called drugs. Stay away from them." THE end.
@@GrimmDelightsDice Yeah, agreed one time my friend who was dm for that game added a 2 ft tall halfling called Silla, she was 12 and her main purpose was mainly to mess around with my other friend's character and generally be annoying eg: jumping onto his back and pulling his ears (he was a harengon) and my character built a sort of motherly relationship with her. Sorry for waffling on.
Your compassion for the DM that hasn't grown a spine yet and DM's like him is one of the reasons I love you. I consider Compassion and Empathy are some very important traits for my youtubers to have as strange as that might sound haha
Hey Crit Crab, I just want to say how much I appreciate your positivity and support for all these OPs. It is really hard to know you have the right to set boundaries if you have been brought up to think that setting boundaries is selfish. It is not uncommon for these people to get victimized many times as they struggle to figure out if it is ok to protect themselves. There is a lot of confusion and shame involved in putting up boundaries and later for letting yourself get walked over. It's kind of amazing to hear you talk about thay without making snap judgments. You are a good person!
Very true. I have also had trouble saying 'no' to problem players when I was a new DM, so it's hard to see people in the comments insisting the DM/OP "just shut them down"
@@CritCrab honestly I lost a lot of respect for you on this take. Loin was literally being a pedophile and your response is op is just learning. Yeah kicking out the problem player won't cut here I agree and I'll do you one better shutdown the campaign and report this guy to the authorities because I'm willing to bet if he's done this in erp he's done this in real life. Honestly op is a coward for not shutting down Loin completely and you're just as bad in saying it's ok no other players are getting hurt it's just a guy trying to fuck an 8 year old op will grown his spine one day.
One of the hardest lessons to learn at the table, is shutting shit like this down the moment it pops up, before it has an opportunity to fester. It sucks, you might be angry all day, it could ruin the game, but it’s necessary. It’s a shame the OP had to learn this lesson the hard way, but I hope that any DM watching can learn from this and be able to step up to the plate when creeps like this show themselves at their tables. Much respect Crab king 👑🦀
Don't blame the OP honestly. This is a situation that when you are not in it seems obvious. You can freeze up if you are not ready or experienced with garbage people
Absolutely. Many people forget that not everyone has the kind of upbringing that gives them the tools to handle terrible people and say no to them. In fact, more than a few are actively prevented from doing so. Assertiveness is not an innate ability, it's a learned one and plenty of people end up learning the hard way; they shouldn't be shamed for that.
The social dynamics behind the scene alone gives OP a pass imo. He/she was DMing for a group of people where he/she was the odd one out to begin with - that's hard as fuck and obviously impacts how much social leverage you would have with regards to negotiating a kick. That being said I also think these play-by-post/text heavy games with whispers and the like is just begging for shit like that to happen. I'm not saying that people shouldn't play those types of games, I'm simply stating that I personally don't think it's worth the hassle, I'd rather not play at all if that was my only choice tbh.
Idk why and I know I prob shouldn’t be as frustrated with OP as much as I am, but Jeezus grow some fckn balls, you literally have Master in your title! I get people choke and freeze when they run into a creep like this but are you kidding me? It took this long, your friends who were friends with that thing longer and didn’t even see the whole picture had a more appropriate reaction. And the fact they’re was more just drives it home that the OP is kind of an idiot, I’ve seen some DMs like them but are you serious, it sounded like that degenerate was auditioning to meet Chris Hanson
if you cant kick out an obvious pedo from your game for doing obvious pedo shit maybe dont dm or maybe mature a bit before dming. and you should definitely not CONTINUE the role playing scene by doing the rejection in character
Shutting this behavior down is yeah a given. But as you’ve mentioned it’s not that easy for some when it’s their first time encountering this behavior and likewise a lot of times this behavior can progress slowly. Certain phrases and jokes in character and out might go unnoticed or just ignored. This especially true when online and context is hard to relay on txt chat and even through voice chat when your not seeing this person’s body language. Identifying this behavior early is key and you can bring it up privately to the player that they need to seriously tone it down and if rules are already in place remind them this behavior isn’t appropriate. And players should also make sure the dm doesn’t try to force situations that’s not appropriate on the party or another player
Like personally, I think people severely underestimate how hard it is for some people to be in a position of authority and make certain executive decisions. The skill of firing people is something a lot of new managers have to actively learn and be mentored on, and being a GM or some kind of community manager and throwing out people who are this troublesome is a skill that has to be similarly developed.
@@andrejg4136 I've rarely met anyone that wants to fire or drop someone out of the gate. It's something that takes time to build skill into and be able to recognize problems and read how people talk and behave and when to step in.
@@The_gaming_archaeologist it’s just one of those times you might have to see it unfold as a player or DM and learn from it. Perks of being DM…”NutMeg panics remembering that pedophiles belong on the wall” chose a spell that would kill off the character, fudge the roll, let him know his character is dead and let everyone else know why, then boot him from the server.
As a DM on roll20 that has ran several games. There are alot of pedophiles on roll20. Out of the 20 or so games ive ran and played in, ive encountered 6. An example is a 40+ year old man (some games you fill out applications to join roll20 games so i knew his age) playing a 7 year old child...adventurer in a dnd module. A child adventurer made no sense to me but the DM allowed it. This 7 year old proceeded to hit on grown men as well as children its age...i left the game with people wonder why i had a problem with his lol so funny character. Another was halfing that tried to molest kids because "his character couldn't tell the difference between a human child and a halfling." Lol so funny right? I kicked the dude without a word from my game. I dont care if im the a**hole.
You absolutely are not the a-hole. You would be an a-hole if you let them stay in the game. Not being confrontational and allowing a problem to fester is one thing, but not even wanting to kick a pretador out of the space that _you_ control is inexcusable.
the first one I can kinda see as a joke-character depending on both context and how the dude was roleplaying it, but the second one I completely agree with you that it was creepy af
@@RutraNickers you seriously dont understand how the first example is just as bad? Like pedos dont portray it as "the children liked it/came on to them"?? Get your head out of your ass.
Here's the thing: They CAN have laboratory equipment But they're not universal to sex dungeons If his first thought is "aww yiss sex dungeon" to the scent of bleach and INSTANTLY hitting on the 8 year old, I'd suggest to search his hard drives immediately
Oh God I remember seeing the story on the sub and being like ‘there’s no way crab king will cover this this is too disgusting’ but you have proven to be stronger than I am
1. I am convinced it's a One Piece campaign. 2. This story feels like proof it's better to not do secret sessions or the like. Just have everyone see what happens with each player instead of hiding scenes for "immersion".
My response to the second story when Lion talks about how being higher should give a bonus: You're higher, yes. But you're trading quality for quantity here. You can see more, but at proportionally less detail. Because of that, no bonus - but it will allow your Search roll to let you see farther out.
I know it's a minor part in the whole thing, but I'd like to point out: how was Nutmeg avoiding him "railroading"? Her ability to turn to smoke is something that was well-established and strength doesn't mean shit against an incorporeal enemy. It makes perfect sense for him to not be able to do.... *this*
Op should've clarified a lot sooner that Nutmeg was 8, because while it was definitely creepy non-con going on the only underage character mentioned initially was the 3 year old. I actually restarted the video to check if I missed her age and didn't find it mentioned until the TL;DR
Yes that is what i thought. Also suddenly all the charcters are 16? Like people know the age of strangers around them? its weird that it was kept out of the post and makes me wonder if the player even knew the characters ages
@@knightofcarrion7358 well, he most probably knew Nutmeg was at least a child because nobody would introduce an 8yr any other way besides saying "child" at least one time
It was literally in the title of the post. Anyone with any reading comprehension could tell that the 8 year old girl mentioned in the title was Nutmeg because she was the one being put in the gross situation.
The man definitely knew the NPC was a child. He straight up asked her if she ever had any “grown up” thoughts before attempting to grape her. Total scum.
It's easy for those of us who are listening to this story to say that the creep should be removed immediately upon doing his creepy things. If I were the DM, I probably would, but then, I'm getting old. Well aware of the dwindling time I have left, I'm a lot less willing to waste time putting up with crap than I might have been when I was younger. I don't know the ages of the people in this group, but a lot of people in D&D are younger and/or socially awkward, and they might not have the experience or confidence to promptly remove horrible players or rid themselves of a creepy DM. For them, a situation like this might be the learning experience that teaches them not to put up with it the next time it happens. Furthermore, with friendships that exist outside of the game, it can be hard to remove a problem player from the game without damaging a friendship that might be healthy otherwise. In a case like this, however, I must question whether I would be able to continue a friendship with someone who wants to engage in ERP with an 8-year-old character - something is clearly wrong with this person and I want no part of it.
Yeah it's super easy to say it from an outside perspective. Especially in a situation like this where you're the newcomer to the group. Most of these people are young or socially awkward. The young are much more forgiving. I'm not old for sure but I've got some experience so I can say with confidence I'm good at no. I don't think me 5-10 years ago could say the same.
@@rollfaceonkeyboard exactly. Especially since we don't know more about OP's age/home situation etc. Not saying that OP shouldn't have acted immediately but I 100% understand why it would be hard, especially since it was one-on-one and they didn't have anyone who could immediately be on their side. I went through Some Shit as a kid and then again when I was a teenager so I know I would've had a REALLY hard time putting a hard stop to this if I was the DM during high school/college Hopefully CritCrab's video about this will help other DMs feel more confident about stopping this behavior immediately.
Im 21, awkward and I have zero tolerance for anything that could be described as gross injustice. It's just a personality thing, I think middle-class kids are used to passive-aggressive behavior because of their boring parents. I'm aggressive-aggresive from growing up poor with shitty conservative military parents.
I was about to leave a comment on less willing to take crap when you get older. When you are old and have a family and job, dealing with kids and basically have no time for your hobbies and, say, being able to play only once a month? You ain't gonna take dumb sh*t from no punk-ass b**ch who's ruining what little fun you can grasp.
Listen I may be asexual but I'm 90% sure that any room permeating with bleach and metal smells would NOT sound like a sex dungeon, nor would that turn anyone on. EDIT: Came back and realized Lion """confirmed""" it was a sex dungeon because there was a bed in the lab room, despite OP having described it to be unused for a long time. 💀
I have a rule that benevolent beings can inhabit children, I have had this happen only to have "The child's eye now glow a deep violet they speak in otherworldly echos "What do you think you are doing swine?" the child says as they float in midair. They use telekinesis to grab you and hang you from the ceiling from a large meat hook they generate out of a dance fog"
Oooh oooh ooooh I’ve got a good idea for a rp I want you to use. The child stands still, their eyes close and they telepathically lift you (the wrongun) above the ground. You nor anyone else can bring you back down. Then a deep voice can be heard. “I am the divine protecter of the innocent… you have dared to attempt your fiendish will upon one of my subjects. For that you will perish and every reincarnation of your soul shall cease to exist” The perpetrator feels a searing pain shoot up their back as their spine shatters, then their limbs snap in two and their brain implodes in on itself. They fall to the ground with a pathetic thud. Their heinous soul falls into the great nothingness so no reincarnation shall arise from it. The thing inhabiting the children will keep them blind until they are away from the body in order to protect them from the sight.
The moment a player hits me with the "You're a horrible game master!", my answer is always to answer "Yeah, you're right, I'm a horrible game master. You probably shouldn't be playing with me anymore..." then I ban them.
Great advice at the end about being the boss of your game, rooting out problem players. It isn't about being controlling over people, so don't take any accusations. This is your game JUST AS MUCH as it is the player's game. You set the boundaries and they agree with you at session 0, and it is up to you to maintain the boundaries. Take authority, DMs. Stand in that and don't allow for these kinds of players to get away with ruining your game.
Gonna take a stab in the dark and say the stories are about one piece. Pirates, fishmen, scientist who "turns into fog", different islands, ect... I could be wrong but that's what it sounds like to me.
Idk if OP just didn't include it, but if they didn't tell the other players about this guy trying to get gross with a **literal child** that's a little concerning. I'd want to know if someone like that was in my group/life.
Exactly, which is why I don't have sympathy for OP, unlike most other people here. I understand that confrontation is hard, and in most other circumstances, I would agree with most people and have sympathy for people who haven't quite learned to deal with problem players yet. However, when there is an obvious predator in your midst and you don't even so much as tell the other people about them, that is incredibly irresponsible. I really hope there weren't any minors in that group. What makes it worse is that this was online, so OP probably also could have reported him to site authorities (I'm not sure where exactly they played but I imagine any website has a report function for this exact behavior) _without even confronting him._ Not to mention that you could just do a simple ban, then block without saying anything to them, then tell the rest what a scumbag he is. I just feel like OP had way too many options and oppourtunities, and doesn't really have an excuse for allowing this putrid skidmark of a person to hang around.
It's clear the players knew Nutmeg was a minor because the question "Do you ever think Adult thoughts" was asked specifically. If Nutmeg was an adult there would be no reason to phrase it that way.
@@firstnamelastname7244 they said at the end that they did tell everything, but only while they were drunk because they were afraid of "ruining their friendship." Honestly I'm concerned how OP would react if they found out someone was creeping on a child irl, because not only not kicking them, but *not telling anyone else* because they don't want to ruin their reputation is a horrendously bad sign.
Well if i was a DM i would say "The God of Innocence and Protector of Children smites your PC to Death and Banish you from this Realm" aka kicked, banned and blocked from the Game and Servers. Should he have a history of shit like that maybe give the Police and anon hint about that Guy if possible.
"I didn't end up kicking them until months later" as a person who's meek and I'd terrified of others getting mad at me...I can't feel sympathy for OP here.
16:45 "Ah, this one player is clearly bullying the shit out of the DM. Making them cry, end game sessions early, and causing them visible and audible distress every single time they interract. I guess I should leave and not even remotely try to stop the clear and explicit bullying that I am fully aware of."
First Part: I love how when OP doesn't allow the guy to have his way because it's gross and makes her super uncomfortable, his first reaction is to accuse her of railroading and nerfing his character and making him feel useless. All things a DM could do to take agency away from a player, but not what this DM was doing whatsoever. He was essentially throwing bad-DM buzzwords at them to see if he could guilt-trip them into getting their way. Also, if OP wasn't sure of who the problem was in the situation, she could've had Nutmeg act uneasy around Lion, and the next time she was with any of the other PCs, talk to them about how Lion did something that freaked her out, and when his actions are explained to another player, gauge their reaction to see that OP was in the right 100%.
Felt the bit about being confrontational, I've had to mentally practice *_a lot_* for creepfucks like this, because if I got into this very very bad scenario unprepared, I'd probably find myself in OP's shoes. *Especially when he sticks with the 8-year-old in question but does nothing else immediately after.*
He thinks that was railroading he didn't get to SA a 8 year old? I admit I don't DM, but I have plan for if I ever do and someone tries to do an SA scene. Lighning strikes, you die. In my world, anyone doing that crime dies, instantly. You're atomized and no form of magic can ever bring you back, not even a Wish spell.
The moment that question was asked, game over. No more role playing, it's game over. I feel bad for the OP for being put in this situation in the first place.
Every time I watch/listen to these stories with "adult situations" in games gone wrong, I'm reminded of and grateful for my DM and how she handles adult themes and situations in game. My DM is a close friend of mine and everyone in our group, she, herself, happens to be aro+ace but she doesn't at all deprive the rest of us of adult situations in-game. She handles it in the greatest way possible for our group, essentially giving us enough freedom to lead into an adult encounter and allowing us to play out *just enough* of the encounter for context between characters (as in if the encounter will go well or not and the states of mind between them) *without actually performing* the encounter itself. This way, myself and other players are satisfied that we *did* get to have an adult encounter between our characters and develop their relationships in adult ways, but no one (including the DM) is left uncomfortable on the sidelines waiting for the game to carry on ~ We've been playing out adult encounters in this manner for 5 years now (with MANY suggested encounters at this point), and its been an excellent balance for us! Edit: formatting
In all honesty thats how i like my games to run, if there is any adult stuff. Its all in the side rp channel or their own thing either messaging between them or in a sperate dedicated channel for that. Definitely dont want to run a full erp wasting other peoples time.
When someone spends a lot of time telling you how bad you are it can be hard to sort out whether they're right or not when you aren't feeling that great about yourself. But if they keep coming back, it's a big clue that they're not being honest with you. They're just telling you things to deliberatey make you feel bad so you don't think about them critically. It functions as a smokescreen to let them do whatever they want. And that's how you know they're lying to you. It doesn't matter what situation you're in with them. Living together for financial reasons, just friends, married, it's all the same if they're treating you this way. They have other options. If they're not taking them, they're just lying to you.
@@a.v.j5664 The girl from the thumbnail Kotoko from Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls. She is a child (around 10 I think?) and was heavily sexually abused and prostituted by her parents to a producer and you can kind of paint a picture what way this is going
Not played the game yet, but it's from Danganronpa Despair Girls if I'm remembering correctly, that particular character has some kind of fucked up trauma but, I'm not sure since I've yet to play the game. Heard the games good though, but you'd have to play the main series games to understand this spin-off.
I always thought that the best way to deal with players who want to push stuff outside of the normal boundaries, such as no sexualizing child characters, you should give them a chance to realize you're not going to put up with it. Ask them a few times if it's something they really want to do, and describe how it feels to their character. They may complain that you're controlling their character, but if they try to sexualize children, then they don't deserve to be in control anyway. "Are you sure you want to do this?" "Yes!" "You start to get a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach. Something tells you that this isn't a good idea. Are you sure?" "Yes." "You feel like this is your last chance to back out, before something happens you may regret. Are you REALLY sure?" "Yes." "As you try to proceed, a god smites you for your villainous and indecent behavior. You are dead. You get no saving rolls, as it was instantaneous. The attack was so intense, your physical body has been disintegrated, so you get no death saves either."
Unless EXPLICITLY AGREED UPON, D&D is not for fulfilling any kind of gross fantasies like this. People like Lion disgust me. At least OP has learned from this experience and will stop anything like this from happening in the future.
Lion sounds like the bonus DLC problem player; Wants to be the MC, blames the Gm for not "making him useful", tries to ERP with minors, steals, is creepy and tries to tear down the DM for not catering to his abuses. Much sorrow for the Dm, I hope things eventually improved for them.
low self esteem might not even be the problem because some people just have the inexperience to say "no" you don't have to have a reason at the moment to reject actions taking place just that these actions make you uncomfortable. showing you have boundaries and having people respect other's boundaries when comes to consent is a great start.
I can definitely see why they found it difficult to shut it down, since the other players were his friends. Reminds me of the DM who played the cheater-story.
The only reason I would continue a game if someone said something like that would be to fuck with them and making a joke of their character before giving them the boot. But, as you said, hindsight is better and people don't expect this type of behavior. There is a reason that taking refuge in audacity works, as unreliable as it is. Some things are just so shocking or outright disturbing that it turns your brain to snow, and makes it so you can't really think about the situation.
So I've been rewarching critcrab videos after having watched a bunch of One Piece ( I am at the Dressrosa arc ), and just now I realise that Nutmeg is a One Piece reference.
I generally use a three stage approach with this kind of situation. First, make setting and tone clear in Session 0. Almost always, setting, and especially tone, help mold player actions into acceptable territory. If it doesn't, then I move to step two, if an incident like this occurs, I take it just far enough to see where it's going. If the objectionable actions are actually being carried out and not part of some ruse, then I stop to remind the person that A) this is not happening and B) to knock it off. Finally, if the problem persists, the person is kicked.
How the hell does anyone see someone trying to do lewds with an 8 year old, AND other underage characters, and not get an immediate boot? You can't excuse that as just trying to give another chance or whatnot, christ. And then we have absolute manchildness on top of that regarding the rest, just terrible.
I'm not going to fault op or other DMS and players like this who stick out bad situations like this because they're too scared. Anxiety and low self esteem are A LOT harder to get over than people without seem to think. It literally overrides your brain and yeets the part responsible for rational thought, emotional control and logic. Sprinkle in gas lighting like what Lion was doing and you end up questioning your sanity or even where to draw the line from reality and the fantasy you've been led to believe. Obviously in hindsight OP should have kicked him and told the other players what happened the moment Lion wanted to roleplay statutory grape with a fictional 8 year old. Especially after it got worse when his first response to said fictional 8 year olds refusal was to immediately turn to force and then rage at her still getting away despite him being more "powerful". Fantasies like that more often than not hide genuine desires, never believe the excuse "it's just a fantasy so theirs no real harm to it". No one rps that crap as just something to do to pass the time. That said, if you're in some situation like that and you panic, or don't know what to do, or succumb to gaslighting and get convinced you're in the wrong. It's not your fault but at the very least please tell someone, the other party members, a friend outside the game, family, even posting it on Reddit or some other social media, anonymously if you can. They can help clear the doubt that the problem person is putting in your mind.
I've never got this mentality with "insert emotional issue here" making something not your fault. I have anger issues. Most of the day I want to hit something. On rare occasion (it was less rare when I was younger) that anger get's the better of me. It's been a long time since I lost my temper and attacked a person (well over a decade) but as far as objects it's more in the months category. Anger issues are alot harder to get over then people without them think. Is it not my fault when I put my fist through a wall?
@@Qwerty95ish Anger issues aren't remotely like anxiety. You trying to compare them makes as much sense as me saying "As someone with ADHD I just don't get why schizophrenics need to take medication to function. I don't, therefore no one should have to.". It's beyond stupid.

Anxiety issues aren't just an emotional regulation problem. It's not simply being extremely anxious it effects the way you precieve and think about situations.
A friend of mine had to throw someone out of his campaign and stop being friends with him after he tried to make his character assault an NPC that was directly based on my friend's 13-year-old daughter. The worst part is they knew each other since high school and he knew his daughter and that the NPC was based on her because he wasn't subtle about it, so he didn't want to take any chances that he might put her in danger by keeping him around. At least in this situation no actual children were in danger (probably), but it's still disgusting and I'm glad the OP shot it down.
"You know what lion, how about I tell some experienced DMS about this in a few game stores, libraries, conventions, offices, and let them weight in? Oh no? You don't need me to do that anymore? Well ok then." (Does that anyways)
Yes, please can we do some stories that _don't_ revolve around se*ual predators for a change?? I submitted a story not long ago that's just the usual D&D silliness, maybe if we submit a bunch like that he'll have more to choose from.
I get why OP was hesitant and confused, it's Tactics 101 for people like Lion to manipulate people's emotions to the loins where they're questioning what happened without asking for help (I'm only half way through the vid right now). OP sounds like a vulnerable person for Lion to target for that kind of psych abuse. These days I'd report Lion to PD to get them to watch him or investigate, when I was younger and new I might have reacted the way OP did
Often times where a victim is dealing with a creepy player, the player in question is a relative, or is close with the other party members, and bringing their shortcomings up and/or kicking them can lead to generally terrible things happening among the group. While it's still the right choice to kick someone out of the group at that point, it can be *VERY* difficult to make that choice.
I feel like an important thing is that with inappropriate actions the dm can say no you don't, your character doesn't say/do that, not in this game. If problem players are countered in game they imagine it's an issue with their approach/strategy not the actual action.
Its very hard to set boundaries. It may seem easy and I am very happy there are those who are taught its ok to say no early in life. I was, unfortunately, one of those people who was taught to always share, always help, and never be mean. This cultivated me into being a shy kid who never said no because I never wanted to be mean, which also meant I was always walked all over and taken advantage of by my peers. Forced into social events I didn't want to be in or made me uncomfortable. It wasn't till I moved out that I started to develop my sense of self and began to stand up if environments got uncomfortable. I still struggle and the "always share and be nice" was strongly rooted in me, by my parents. So I can understand someone who has a hard time staying stop or no. Remember, just cause its easy for you doesn't mean its easy for someone else. If you find someone who is having trouble standing their ground against someone like this player. Be that example and stand beside them. If I had heard what had happened from my DM, I would have put that player on thin ice with the rest of the group. Remember, your not alone. Seek help from those who will support.🤝

Not just at the table. And unfortunately many learn it the hard way...
When Critcrab said he was going to throw up some warnings, I got up to the 'throw up' part and said "me too"
Don't blame the OP honestly.
I mean who's ever prepared for their friends to be a massive shit stain
if you cant kick out an obvious pedo from your game for doing obvious pedo shit maybe dont dm or maybe mature a bit before dming. and you should definitely not CONTINUE the role playing scene by doing the rejection in character
Sometimes this behavior comes out of left field and its not as obvious.
As someone who doesn't like conflict, it can be difficult and often I worry that I'm the one who is in the wrong.
@@The_gaming_archaeologist it’s just one of those times you might have to see it unfold as a player or DM and learn from it.
I went through Some Shit as a kid and then again when I was a teenager so I know I would've had a REALLY hard time putting a hard stop to this if I was the DM during high school/college
Hopefully CritCrab's video about this will help other DMs feel more confident about stopping this behavior immediately.

16:45
"Ah, this one player is clearly bullying the shit out of the DM.
This kind of scenario hits very close to home for me and it makes my blood positively boil.
Just seeing the thumbnail. Knowing who that character is and what they've been through. I.. I'm scared.
By the Danganronpa thumbnail and its subtitles... Yeah, I'm a little worried.
"Am I really so useless as a player? No, the DM is to blame." - Lion
This kinda crap always makes me sick, I'm glad the DM didn't try "letting it slide" as I frequently hear in these stories.
Read the thumbnail as “I crab her” cause… you know, crab.
It's victim blaming to say "you should have banned them sooner." We all live and learn, it would only be helpful advice if it was currently happening.
The moment that question was asked, game over.
No more role playing, it's game over.
I feel bad for the OP for being put in this situation in the first place.
"I'm hesitant to stand against the victim for not [verb] soon enough" is a painful sentence. o.o
This way, myself and other players are satisfied that we *did* get to have an adult encounter between our characters and develop their relationships in adult ways, but no one (including the DM) is left uncomfortable on the sidelines waiting for the game to carry on ~
We've been playing out adult encounters in this manner for 5 years now (with MANY suggested encounters at this point), and its been an excellent balance for us!
"...breaking his immersion by not letting him do this."
ME: do what exactly? why dont you tell every one what it is you want me to let you do??

"Are you sure you want to do this?"
"Yes!"
"You start to get a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach. Something tells you that this isn't a good idea. Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"You feel like this is your last chance to back out, before something happens you may regret. Are you REALLY sure?"
"Yes."
"As you try to proceed, a god smites you for your villainous and indecent behavior.
The free space on a critcrab bingo card is "session 0"
Lion sounds like the bonus DLC problem player; Wants to be the MC, blames the Gm for not "making him useful", tries to ERP with minors, steals, is creepy and tries to tear down the DM for not catering to his abuses. Much sorrow for the Dm, I hope things eventually improved for them.
"as you touch Nutmeg she actually turns into Tyr the god of justice and immediately portals you to the Abyss never to be seen again *banned*"
low self esteem might not even be the problem because some people just have the inexperience to say "no"
you don't have to have a reason at the moment to reject actions taking place just that these actions make you uncomfortable.
showing you have boundaries and having people respect other's boundaries when comes to consent is a great start.
"I never do anything useful!"
I fail to see how child molestation would be useful
I was in my college cafeteria with my friends. I saw critcrab uploaded, then I read the thumbnail. I said quite loudly "THE FUCK!?"
It's amazing how much I have Filthy Frank screams in my head on loop watching these creeps. Holy shit
@@RiveroftheWither Both are your emotions getting the better of you. Schizophrenia is a literal legal insanity as it removes your ability to tell right from wrong. Low self esteem, anger issues and ADHD are not. You need a better comparison.
@@Qwerty95ish So on top of not knowing anything about anxiety, you don't know anything about Schizophrenia either. Conversation over, I'm not wasting my time with a moron anymore.
@@Qwerty95ish You don't have a very good understanding of mental illness. In any case your initial comparison was faulty. There's a huge difference between preventing yourself from causing harm and knowing exactly how to protect yourself when you're abuser is actively playing mind games with you.
The thumbnail makes me fear for how terrible the story will go

Yes, please can we do some stories that _don't_ revolve around se*ual predators for a change?? I submitted a story not long ago that's just the usual D&D silliness, maybe if we submit a bunch like that he'll have more to choose from.
I get why OP was hesitant and confused, it's Tactics 101 for people like Lion to manipulate people's emotions to the loins where they're questioning what happened without asking for help (I'm only half way through the vid right now). OP sounds like a vulnerable person for Lion to target for that kind of psych abuse. These days I'd report Lion to PD to get them to watch him or investigate, when I was younger and new I might have reacted the way OP did
0:38 well theres your problem right there
Often times where a victim is dealing with a creepy player, the player in question is a relative, or is close with the other party members, and bringing their shortcomings up and/or kicking them can lead to generally terrible things happening among the group. While it's still the right choice to kick someone out of the group at that point, it can be *VERY* difficult to make that choice.
That thumbnail is cursed for those who know.
I feel like an important thing is that with inappropriate actions the dm can say no you don't, your character doesn't say/do that, not in this game. If problem players are countered in game they imagine it's an issue with their approach/strategy not the actual action.
You all know what the question is. And you all sure as hell know the answer.
The Danganronpa thumbnail though
Damn, seeing Kotoko on the thumbnail hit like a punch in the gut.
This is where one needs to genuinely make a report of the player to police just as a person of interest to monitor.

"I am a reflection of the players I have to deal with."
