"A fish ate my head and I need my head to get my dad" is a line that only makes sense in this show.
The fact That the big MacGuffin that all the factions are fighting to get is a severed head is so funny
She should have paid more attention to that poster in the vault telling her not to lose her head :p.
@@DEGriffSoc OMG
I thought the squire carrying all the junk was a reference of players making their companions mules
That too, probably.
Lydia syndrome.
Same
The water chip being broken is a reference to the first game, it’s the reason you have to leave the vault.
That little reference made me vindicated that I decided to get fallout 1 on steam on a whim
And for those who haven't played it, I highly recommend It. It's very different, but worth it
@@nugget3687 The first two Fallout are so much fun. They are different, but honestly a wonderful time
@@nugget3687 Lol, as an old-ass GenX who's been with the series since the first game, that's what I said about Fallout 3.
You beat me to it. I loved that bit, huge laugh.
Simone: "Are those fingers?"
George; "I don't know. I didn't see them fing."
The dad jokes are strong with this one.
I loved that one. Gave me a good chuckle as it went by.
That's a Simpsons reference.
The gulper was first in the far harbor dlc for fallout 4
You spelled FAH HAHBAH wrong.
The gulpers in Far Harbor were mutated newts, and were a dark green/brown color. The gulper in the show looks more like a mutated axolotl.
@@SuperTwonky they are Mixed with Human DNA ..hence the Fingers for Teeth ,was confirmed at Vault 4
They were also in Fallout 76.
@@f0rth3l0v30fchr15tthe gulpers had to relocate to the West Coast after the KING OF FAH HAHBAH put them on the endangered species list.
"Fingers are just like carrots" is an all time quote from Simone lmao
Well considering they both require the same bite force to crunch thorough.... yeah. They are lol
The actress that plays Lucy said they told her that Lucy is like Ned Flanders in a post-apocalyptic world. That is probably the reason Lucy doesn't steal from the dead. The thought of taking a gain from someone else's misfortune doesn't even cross her mind.
Yeah she's lawful good
Snip Snip is voiced by Matt Berry.
YESSSS YOOOOUUR HONNOOOOOOOUUURRR?
I've never heard anyone confuse the voice of Matt Berry with Simon Pegg, until today.
The second he said, "You appear to be a WOMAN!" I knew it was him. His cadences are unmistakable. Also, let me add: "FAAAAATHEEERRRRRRRRRR!"
@@johnplaysgames3120 FAAATHEEEERR AAARGGHHH
@@johnplaysgames3120 It's very similar from his line to Liz on Garth Marenghi's Darkplace " You're a woman" which is where I first became aware of him. Would thoroughly recommend that show if you haven't seen it, only 6 episodes made but way ahead of it's time and enjoys a large cult following online due to Richard Ayoade and Matt Berry making their TV debuts on it
I like that if you pause the show on any scene containing the prop head Michael Emerson’s name pops up as one of the actors in the scene. Phenomenal job, Michael. I’ll never seen a head deteriorate so well.
The black woman in the vault is blind Al from Deadpool.
Leslie Ugghams.
She found the cure for blindness while looking for her cocaine.
To the question on how The Ghoul became a ghoul. its not directly explained but there is a clue. He mentions wanting to go to Bakersville. There is a vault there, but the door was designed not to properly seal, it created the first generation of ghouls. *could* be he is one of them
Good call
I swear he had a comment about "The radiation didn't do this to me" or something along those lines. I took that as he got caught and experimented on.
@@IAAShRaPNeL he's also the type to blame the people and not the thing. Like he blamed the guy for...well I won't spoil it in the comments since it's only episode 4. (though I'm sure they've already watched the rest of the series)
So he could blame Vault Tec for putting him there...because it's something physical that he can hate. He doesn't hate invisible stuff like radiation even though it's obviously a killer. Also, you get cranky when you're 250 years old.
@@aysuppatruck6185 To be fair, I was born severely disabled.
For a long time, I blamed God. But, once I accepted that God does not exist, I blamed my mother for not aborting me and the Church for indoctrinating my mother with the notion that to abort me would be a sin.
My point is, if you are going to blame something for your circumstances, better something that exists and is to blame, even if they choose to blame it on a force of nature or, worse, their imaginary friends.
@@John-ir4id Man, I can't compare anything to that. I was just guessing, but I hope you're well and haven't gone full Feral Ghoul yet lol...we need you and those POV's
I love how Lucy like... upgrades after she leaves the mart. New finger, new me lmao
She leveled up, like I always did during the Super Duper Mart quest in 3.
Regarding "That's it?" for the detail repair on the power armor, an anecdote comes to mind.
Guy has a trouble with a car - it chugs horribly - and goes to repairs. Mechanic checks under the hood and when asked how much it'd cost to fix it, mechanic says.
- 500 dollars.
Dude gives him money. Mechanic takes money, then a hammer and takes good aim at something, before giving that something a firm hit. Car no longer chugs. But dude, angry and bewildered, asks:
- That's it? I could've done that myself! Why'd I pay you 500?
To which mechanic smirks.
- 1 dollar for a hit. 499 for me knowing *_where_* to hit.
"I could've done that myself"
"Then why didn't you?"
"I didn't know how"
To be fair, 5 caps is like the price of one or two bullets.
Maximus should have taken some Repair skill. You'd imagine a squire should have that.
@@mattp6089 He knew the exact piece that needed to be repaired. He jacked the armor upright, did repairs himself, and took the only piece he couldn't fix to a specialist. His repair skill is fine.
It's the same with a locksmith - you're paying for the expertise, not the time
Its Matt Berry who plays Snip Snip the Mr. Handy, not Simon Pegg. He played Laszlo in What We Do in the Shadows.
"Bat!"
I’ll always see him as Douglas Reynholm
I always see him as Garth Marenghi. 😂
@@bentenzopher9972you mean Doctor Sanchez/Sanch. Great show!
One of the most distinctive British voices of today. Once you know him as an actor, you can never mistake his voice ever again! 😆
I love how bloodthirsty Simone became when he used the suits hand to crush that guys head.
"That was gruesome"
"Yeeeeaaaaaah"
LOL
"Fingers are just like carrots."
Bloodthirsty Simone is adorable!
The Ink Spots formed 90 years ago. Longest lasting member of the OG lineup passed before the first game was released, so we'll never know what they might've thought.
😭
Oh and the way I understood it, you only need the vials of serum if you already are about to turn. So you can go 200 years no problem, if you are lucky and the rads don't eat your brain, but after you start showing the first symptoms you need the vials. That's what Roger is saying, he held out 28 years after starting to turn.
When I first saw this, I just assumed he liked being high on chems (particularly Jet in this case).
Vials could be jsut scam. Some kind of drugs. Placebo or they suppress withdraval symptoms that would put so big strain on someone that they would turn feral. I hope we find more in season 2
@@laigron7884 The idea of a placebo affect giving the ghouls enough willpower to stay human is honestly a fascinating and tragic idea.
That said, I’m pretty sure it’s something they actually need if they start showing symptoms.
@@stingerjohnny9951 Yeah, otherwise they could keep from turning on just willpower alone but I don’t think that’s what’s happening either.
I think that adding the serum to the ghoul is preparing for ghouls being playable in the next game.
Needing a consumable item in exchange for radiation immunity, a degree of regeneration and a probable intimidation bonus sounds like a reasonable exchange.
the pacing for each episode is so well done. love the character progression.
Walter Goggins is just freaking amazing in this role.
@user-xk8dx1ci9s still have to check that out. Thanks for the reminder
Walter Goggins is great in everything he is in it. Great actor, you should check his performance in Sons of Anarchy... its hilarious but you will se why he is a great actor.
For me though his best performance is in Justified. Boyd Crowder is one mean scary son of a b**ch
Walton goggins kills every role such an underrated actor
Goggins voices Cecil in Invincible too. He's awesome in everything
@@TheMijman he seriously kills that role too.
I don't know if anyone else noticed but in some shots you can tell that Cooper is still wearing that blue and gold cowboy shirt from his movies/the birthday party under his vest and duster.
Yeah, I just noticed that. Really cool, but very sad
Hola! "Feo, fuerte y formal" means "Ugly, strong and formal", and there is a song in Spain, quite famous around the 2000's, from an artist called "Loquillo", titled exactly that "Feo, Fuerte y Formal", and in the lyrics it is said:
>
which means >, "the Duke" being John Wayne. Apparently, John Wayne liked these mexican expression, and even some people think it is written in his grave, but this is false.
The song is quite good. You can look it up on youtube:
=> Loquillo - feo, fuerte y formal.
I love how Walton Goggins didn't pronounce this right. His "formal" sounds like an English word. But Kyle Maclachlan in the last episode absolutely nails this phrase with a proper Spanish pronunciation.
Okay, so I'm not crazy, right? They're just referencing a pop song and going "there's this old saying". I'm not missing this being a thing people say somewhere, right?
I wonder if they did that on purpose or just heard something that sounded cool while they were backpacking and thought nobody would notice. It's so bizarre, the mistranslation, the pronuntiation, the weird source...
@mademedothis424 is an old saying definitely. Also the actor saying "My character wouldn't shoot this guy" is a John Wayne reference and Wayne seem to like this sayings so I definitely on purpose.
@@mademedothis424it’s a much older ‘old timey’ saying, I remember my Parents and older Uncles saying it… dates back to the ‘golden age’ of Mexican Cinema, if not even older. We’re talking 40’s, or older.
Its been a while since I read a biography on John Wayne but he wanted that phrase put on his tombstone and for some reason his family didn't do that.
George said "Mmm, spam." It's Cram, George!!! C'mon!
Simone’s face when the head gets crushed …
I’m scared .
“That was really gruesome!”
“Yeahhh!! 😈 “
@@rantalmore The delight in her eyes , the smile and giggle......
@@andrewhelmer6853 They grow up so fast 😂
Lucy is playing survival mode, fast travel is disabled. 😃
Bloatflies are a thing, but the thing crawling through the window was a radroach.
I think he recognised Mclean from watching Die Hard pre war ;)
Simone: "We're human and we forget things."
That's just what a synth would say...🤔
Jerry Daniels, the last original member of the Ink Spots, died in 1995 of natural causes. He was 92.
The “Feo, Fuerte y Formal” is a really old Mexican saying that goes back to the 40’s or older…. In context, it’s used as “i’m not handsome, but I’m strong, ugly, and trustworthy’ (‘formal’ doesn’t work as a straight 1 to 1 translation from Spanish to English) , and as stated in other comments, using Mexican slang was a really common trope in old Cowboy movies, since they often took place in Mexican/US border regions.
Gulpers were introduced in a Fallout 4 DLC, so they've been around, but not much or for long. I think they're also in 76.
They seem to be based on an axolotl which have been studied in real life for their regeneration of limbs and how it might help humans… makes sense why someone might try to hybridize them in this setting
Yeah there's a lot of them in 76 in certain areas.
I feel like the only thing that changed about The Ghoul was he learned to do what he had to do to survive and/or thrive.
the small creatures the Ghoul pulled of Lucy are tiny Blood Worm found in Nuka Cola DLC for FO4
This show is simply immaculate. And the actors are exceptional. Lucy, Maximus are revelations and I'm so glad Goggins gets to shine after being a reliable support player for 20 years.
I didn't know Maximus before this but I've seen Ella Purnell in a number of other things, mostly indie or lesser known movies, and she's always really good. It's nice to see her getting some mainstream recognition now. And, yeah, I def agree about Walton Goggins. That dude's been out there killing it as a support player for so long, I love seeing him get to take a lead and show people that he's more than just "oh, that guy..."
I was thinking his "stim" is to keep him from going feral.
2:24 Walton Goggins? Loved him in "Sons of Anarchy" and "Justified", maybe this is a series for me?
The robot is Mathew Berry. If your haven’t watched What We Do in the SHadows, YOu need to! I think you two would love it.
"Hey everybody, and welcome to 'Ass jerky don't make itself" 😉
This one is right up there with "Once you kill a cow, you gotta make a burger."
Gulpers are from the Fallout 4 DLC Far Harbor
Gulpers were absolutely in the game. They appear in the Far Harbor expansion of FO4. They were darker in color in the game, however.
What's funny is the Radiation King is an in-game Simpsons reference, and now it exists in the Fallout TV show.
Radiation King was also a television set in The Simpsons.
A Radiation King TV set is literally the first thing on Fallout, ever. The intro to the very first game is revealed to be playing on one. First thing you see after the Interplay logo.
The radiation king has been the brand name for the tvs in fallout before Simpsons was even a show in the og fallouts 1 and 2
@@zombieslayer02gjustzombies85 you're saying the Fallout games came before the Simpsons? Oh sweetheart. Interesting strategy, Cotton, let's see how it pays off for 'em.
@@zombieslayer02gjustzombies85 I don't know any other way to say this, but you are wrong.
The ink spots were even playing on an episode of the Simpsons involving a nuclear apocalypse
The robot's voice is Matt Berry. I recognized it immediately, being a big fan of "The IT Crowd" where he played the perverted CEO, Douglas Reynholm.
He was also a major player in "What We Do in the Shadows", another funny and very popular series about vampires.
34:04 George quoting Todd Howard. :D
The actor who plays Thaddeus the squire is actually 42 years old
I could see it. Looks younger than me tho at 36. 😶
13:45
Yes, when we first saw Maximus, after the others had finished beating him down, this was the little coward that ran up and kicked him in the gut.
My guess is the vials are something like Mentats; nootropics that keep their mental faculties up.
From what I understand, everything in this show is becoming canon as well, so the Ghoul medication will more than likely be folded into the games… in FO4, there was an experimental drug that healed you, but turned you into a Ghoul as well… Hancock, one of the side characters was made into a Ghoul this way too, so there’s multiple ways of becoming a Ghoul, so this just expands on that lore. It was also shown that the Ghoul was in a kinda sleeping hibernation at the beginning of the show when they wake him up, maybe to slow down the process of the deterioration?
Hancock smoked radiated crack.
The drug inhaler was in the original games, and it is known as "Jet". It acts as some kind of amphetamine, making the user move faster (more action points) it is 100% addictive creating an addiction with the first use.
In Fallout2 it is revealed that "Jet" was created by a young chemist called Myron, (Myron baby, MYRON) wich is the second most annoying character in the game. If you you have very high speech and science skill, Myron will reveal that Jet is made from cattle dung, and it is engineered to be as addictive as possible. It is manufactured and distributed by one of the new Reno crime families.
In Fallout2 's timeline, "Jet" can't have been around for more than a couple of years at the most, since it's creator iso only in his early 20's. It also has nothing to do with ghouls.
I love these Fallout reactions from you two, especially since you obviously know/love the source material.
Besides mistaking the Radroaches for Bloatflies lol.
@@nirvanafan21191 ehhh, cut them some slack lol
33:39 That is the voice of Matt Berry. He was in What We Do in the Shadows. But ky favorite role of his is in the series Toast of London.
38:30 "It's very poisonous!" 🤣
The whole "Bert" scene was pitch perfect. It's sad but also filled to bursting (pun intended) with black comedy. This show continues to delight.
I wonder if The Ink Spots thought their music would be used over a film’s opening sequence intercutting between passionate adultery and a trial for a double murder.
"Lucy doesn't know! Lucy doesn't know!"
The dog's name is Dogmeat, there has been several dogs in the Fallout franchise with the same name.
I'm wondering if it wasn't the Enclave that genetically modified, bred, and trained these dogs then sent them out into the wasteland to "spy" on whoever takes them as a companion.
This isn’t Dogmeat. The dog on the show is a completely different dog.
@@Bishop228 They are all dogmeat, they have been since the first game. It's a reference to The Road Warrior. Unless you think all the dogs across the games, despite being different breeds, are all the same dog.
@@Bishop228that would make Dogmeat more than 100 years old. Unless he's a ghoul
@@jonunya1163Bruh that was my whole point. This can’t be Dogmeat, because Dogmeat would be pretty old by the time this show started in the Fallout timeline. Do you eat crayons for breakfast? What on Earth was the point of your comment?
I died laughing with the Mr. Handy. Perfect example of them.
the gulper looks like a mutated axolotl and i love it XD
The far harbor dlc had gulpers
The Robot voice isn't Simon Pegg, it's Matt Berry (What We Do In The Shadows, Garth Marenghi's Dark Place, Toast of London, Year of the Rabbit, The IT Crowd, Mighty Boosh etc.)
This is the brother of Christopher Nolan producing this show, why is this family so talented? Also season 2 is already confirmed!!
33:39 Matt Berry :D the guy from IT Crowd and such
George: That was really gruesome
Simone: (evil look in her eyes) yeah hehe
Me: ...concerned for Georges safety
Lucy is definitely not a Charisma build as she has failed several important speech checks, the first big on was when she tried to persuade the leads of her vault to go after her dad, second: trying to get info out of the shopkeeper, 3rd: to get the Ghoul to stand down and several minor ones. No I think she is a Perception, Wisdom and Agility build (firearms, athletics and science). The Guplers in FO4/Far Harbor and FO76 are a different breed to the ones in the show.
The creature you couldn't recognize was the Gulper from F4. I think it was from Far Harbor DLC.
yep
4:56 Nope, they've been dead longer than you've been alive.
11:37 Gulpers are from Fallout 4: Far Harbor
Now that would be a great shirt, "Ass jerky don't make itself!!"😂
*Simpsons Easter egg*
"There she is, the old 'Radiation King'. -Grampa Simpson Ep6x10
The TV Homer grew up with was called 'Radiation King' like the one the Ghoul sees in the supermarket.
I laughed at Chet being somber over losing the gatekeeper job, then remembered a majority of Vault Dwellers only ever have 1 lifetime job because of the G.O.A.T and that its their only purpose throughout life. Lucy's brother being an oddity since he just doesn't care about any of it.
And Gulpers were introduced in Fallout 4 I think, I know they're in 76 but that's all i remember.
The Appalachian variants looks more like Salamanders while the West Coast variants look like Axolotles
It was not lost on me that Lucy's first kill was with the classic 10mm starter pistol, and she walks out wearing beginner-tier leather armor.
My favorite acting in the show definitely came from Johnny Pemberton who played Thaddeus. Look, everyone, especially the main cast did an amazing job, but Thaddeus made me laugh so hard.
im here to also advocate for George to play fallout again after this series lmao
The "radiation king" TV is a reference to The Simpsons, which featured the same TV brand. 😁
They filmed the desert scenes in an actual desert ghost town (in Africa?). Yay, practical effects!
I wonder if 30:30 was a nod to FO3 Lawbringer perk.
"Sonora Cruz, the leader of the Regulators, will pay the Lone Wanderer for each "evil" person brought to justice (killed) and requests their fingers as proof. "
Haven’t read through the comments yet, so I’m probably repeating someone, but the drug the Ghoul keeps taking keeps him from turning feral. Loving your reactions to the show.
i believe a Cure for ghouls going feral was developed by the overseer in Vault 88 so its a new thing since the show is a few years after Fo4 but the chemicals are pre war
Matt Berry does the voice of Cogsworth he is from What we do in the Shadows series and The IT Crowd!
The Norm speculation is hilarious.
Norm The GOAT McLean
The ending theme of episode 4 🔥
Even thought the advance of certain technologies seemed to plateau or stagnate in the late 1950s for the universe, they certainly perfected the tech they had for a lot of stuff to still be functional after 200 years.
Looked like Simone was having some "Android Night Punch" flashbacks during that head crush scene. 🤣
You are knocking these reactions out of the park. 👍
Matt Berry as Mister Handy is everything I needed in life
The voice for Snip Snip is Matt Berry who plays Laszlow in What We Do In the Shadows!!!
33:40 Is that Simon Pegg? No that's Matt Berry.
faintly
hearing an adorable cat purring was def my favorite part
Gulpers were in Fallout 4s dlc Far Harbor. Them being in the southwest seems like something the show added, though
That "inhaler" isnt something to keep the ghoul alive. Not in the traditional sense anyway. In typical fallout lore, ghouls are created by exposure though not everyone has the genetics that cause the transformation. They don't sit of old age or rot but all eventually deteriorate into ferality. Those vials are more likely to be drugs, most likely jet or psycho
The last time I came across anything by The Ink Spots was the Abbott and Costello movie “Pardon My Sarong”. Everything old is new again.
“Just take the box.” His hat might have an added carrying capacity
Based on what Roger (the feral they met) said, I suspect that ghouls can go a certain amount of time, different from each other, before they start showing "signs". ONCE they start showing "Signs" they then need the "Vials" to prevent themselves from turning Feral.
37:30
The guy on the left, is momma's boy, from "Free Guy".
Sorry ........ you'll know, when you watch it.
Keith, the 22-Year-Old Gamer in "Free Guy" was also Keith (from the arcade) in Stranger Things.
Let's all remember that Lucy's mother is also callled McLean. My theory is that she's somewhere Upside. Maqybe not alive, but wth.
Dogmeat's designation is CX-404. 404 being a reference to Error 404 because he was technically supposed to be incinerated. However, the Doc saved him.
Gulpers do exist in the games, starting with the Far Harbor DLC for 4. The West Coast version in the show resembles an axolotl instead of a hellbender salamander though.
As far as I can tell, all the original members of the Ink Spots would be well over 100 if they were still alive; of the 'classic' lineup that was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, only 1 - Jerry Daniels - was still alive, and he was like 74/75. Died in the mid 90's I think.
Radiation king is a Simpsons reference, they referenced Simpsons a lot, which was the style at the time.
The ghoul will pick his nose when he gets a to a shop with a decent enough selection.
George… you saw it and didn’t get the reference… the “radiation king” tv is a reference to the Simpsons it was added to the game and now tv show because of one of the creators being a huge simpsons fan 😁👍🏻☢️ I was waiting for that moment I thought how many references you get you can’t miss this one 😬😬😬… lol keep up the great work cinebinge days are the highlights of my week 👍🏻
0:25 You might not have watched them, but theres also the Sonic movies, Castlevania and Arcane on Netflix, and to some degree the Dungeons and Dragons movie.
Nobody loots everything on their first playthrough, that comes with experience.
The creature with human fingers in its mouth (19:47) suggests that it may be mutated from or bred from humans. This topic is dealt with in great detail in Fallout 76, in which the player investigates experiments on mutations (such as FEV), and even buys "mutation serums" for own use. So, mutation-related serums do exist in the games, like the ones Cooper uses in the show. Season 2 will likely deal more with that.
11:36 Gulpers were part of Fallout 4's Far Harbor DLC. Although they look quite different in the game. For the show for some weird reason they changed it into some huge Axolotl-type thing. 😜
Simone really liked it when Maximus crushed his head 😄😄
Yeah, yeah, the Radiation King brand is from the Simpsons, but did you know that Sugar Bombs are straight from Calvin and Hobbes? His favourite was the chocolate frosted variety. :)
That's cool!
