Whoever is "training" the AI used in this example seems to have the same "taste" as my little sister with tunes picked from a supermarket special buy section... for now, we are safe! (God help us if they ever get a proper tune nerd to feed them their hard drive)
I like the mask Alex, was weirded out initially, but yeh it works. 🖖😊

That's why I think databases need to be the focus rather than AI. Like when you post something online you should be able to decide if your data goes into an AI.
      btw thank you!!

I think Music world really different with other form or arts . In Music , who to play a music matters . Idols - Rockstars and die hard fans mostly happen in music compare with another form of arts . That`s why artist in music is hard to replace .
It`s never about perfect pitch - arrangements or catchy tunes , but when talking about music artist we`re talking about attitudes as one of few reason why we`re choosing to be a fan . So for true music artist or performer nothing to scare about .

I am so bored with a lot of the circles people talk about AI. all it is is a magnifying glass for a bunch of other issues that have existed for a long time. our efforts would be better spent on fixing those issues than listening to technocrats and luddites yell at each other on the internet.

For now I still think that AI isn't ready to replace humans in creating music because of composition. The AI doesn't understand what it produces, therefore it doesn't care about music theory, it doesn't understand chord progression or instruments relationship or anything else, and since music is a more abstract style of art than for exemple art, an AI wouldn't be able to create emotions in music. For me the only viable way to use AI in music would be to feed it a melody in (for exemple) a midi file and have it interpret with a chosen instrument, so everything would still be human-made except for the sounds, which would be same as midi except it would sound better, like the AI cover of somebody that I used to know with miku and spongebob where miku sound more natural than in official music since vocaloid uses a more midi-like approach.

Agree, AI is probability based, so the results will be always generic unless there is more human intervention.

Honestly, I am not concerned or "afraid" about AI and music. Fundamentally, creativity is a human endeavour and no computer or AI will ever replace or supercede that. And yes, AI can produce results that will be satisfying to a lot of people. But I think that in time, the novelty will wear off and there will be more people who want that human element to be there. In turn, I see AI as an opportunity for us creators - professional, amateur, and all in between - to make better art. Sure an AI can produce an amusing shitpost result (by the way, I don't mind the mask at all). But humans can go beyond this when you combine inspiration and persistence.
And there's a lot more I can say ... but this should be a good start. Keep creating =]

    • @AlexReidStudios

Yeah, gotta say I love how shitposts and memes use AI to make crazy things. I think AI is a new tool, but won't replace humans

@@AlexReidStudios For me, the rub has always been that these companies are not open about the source of their training data. So there will always be that tint that these types of technology are unethical. The tech is never the problem, it is always the intention and how it was built.

Keynes predicted that due to higher productivity and efficiency in industrial processes, humans would be only working 15 hours a week by 2030 (for a decent salary). The truth is that we have filled the time freed up by productivity with more administrative tasks, complicated and usefulness processes handled by "bullshit jobs" (see eponymous David Graeber's essay) and lot of us work at least 40 hours a week. The trend is now to simplify processes and costs cutting (ie reducing personnel, increasing unemployment) to improve profitability in a world where the demand is contracting, will be contracted (due to energy constraints) and should be contracted (for environmental reasons). Unfortunately I see mostly AI as a way for "deciders" to accelerate this trend, in all domains, although it could also have a lot of positive applications (in particular in medicine). I also fear the new relationship algorithms create between human beings and machines (well developed in Eric Sadin's books, - the latest one "La vida espectral" has been translated in Spanish).

    • @AlexReidStudios
      @AlexReidStudios 5 місяців тому +1

I love Sadin's work, will read the newest one soon. That's why I recommended Nooscope Manifested on this video, is a great read which talks about AI and labor. Is a new tool which will be used for similar purposes than others that came before, but in a faster more efficent way, and that's what to be worried about.

Very cool by the way. I forgot to say. Did you see the ones I made with Bitwig Alex. There are three of them up on my channel. I did them as a teat to see where we are at. It's a couple of months ago now so things are a bit further along of course. It was fun making them as an experiment. Some of this stuff can be a nice tool in the shed I think.

I know music and visual art sphere are not a perfect parallel, but I think it is interesting to see what AI (a very misleading name for what it actually is) has already done in the visual art community. For starters, there is a growing bitterness due to the database being fed artwork without the creator's consent. It's gotten so bad that they have developed anti-AI tools known as "Nightshade" and "Glaze" as an attempt to "poison" the datasets. The idea is that the images are fed a digital mask that causes pixels to be herded into shapes difficult for the human eye to discern, but that would be understood by a blind-devourer. This supposedly results in false identifications of shapes or objects in the dataset and output. I do not know if this works or not, but the measures are supposedly going to continue this sort of arms-race between artists and the trainers.
So far, the AI is 'okay' at big-picture pop sound with banal structure and rhythm. However, it is so far incapable of generating A to Z work (thinking like a prog-rocker OR a film-score composer). If Udio or Suno eventually have a DAW-like setup that receives basic instructions in a timeline that is the next logical step in replacing musicians/producers that either wish to work alongside storytellers or tell the stories themselves with merely music. This and other fears might cause some musicians to pursue more traditional physical instruments as opposed to being electronic-based musicians (I will not deny entertaining those thoughts myself, although I am merely 'okay' at playing guitar and rusty at the real time keys -- but I've seen similar sentiments repeated in comment sections by others). Future-going, I only want to consume electronic music produced by a human being if at all possible and to the best of my knowledge.
