Thank you for doing another review after a year and from a programming perspective! Would love the continue to have updates on the MBA M1 because I think longevity is something to be concerned about but the performance still sounds amazing
I had an M1 Macbook Air and loved the speed and battery life, but ended up trading it in for a Macbook Pro 16" since I'm a computer engineering/cybersecurity student and most of the malware samples or work that I do requires x86. A real bummer.
I am also a cyber security student and I was planning to buy this. Should I go for a pro?
@@sajithprasadsamarathunge126 To be honest it would make sense to go for the pro since most of the malware you'll be analyzing requires x86 and also the VMs are usually only x86 compatible.

Bro, the emulator problem is solved in the android studio artic fox version. they have now arm-based emulators available when you create a new avd device. HOPE IT HELPS android dev to make decision :-)
So, you can have the AVD inside Android studio right? no need to do all the jhanjhat? I'm about to get one, and I am a bit concerned.

macbook air m1 is my first mac ever, coming from i5 window laptop in similar weight category which used to heat up every now and then along with huge fan noise and just 4-5 hrs max battery backup, i am amazingly impressed by this machine, zero noise, zero heating even with slightly heavy apps, INSANE BATTERY and the similar price point makes this undisputed champion in the price range..., fan from India.., great video

Hey Harnoor! You definitely want me to buy MBA M1 instead of the new more expensive MBP 14 for iOS programming and video editing :) Thanks for the video! Going to buy the cheaper option with 16 gigs of memory. Could you explain more about how you're using this external drive in your day to day work? For me, I keep my personal stuff on NAS, as well as all of my video footages from GoPro which is a lot and I am creating videos with Davinci Resolve using footage directly from my NAS, and this is fine. I plan to install Parallels with Windows 10 on M1 and use it from time to time, but I thought I may buy this external fast SSD or similar to the one you have and keep the Windows 10 VM on the external drive. I possibly could go with 16GB of RAM, 256 GB of memory and spend the difference on some great SSD that I could use with my other future computers saving money on additional space option ;) Cheers!

@@ProgramistaNaBudowie Thanks, I’m thinking between the Air with M1 chip vs the MacBook Pro with M1 chip, mainly for programming on Xcode and Android Studio and VSCode, I want to check if the Touchbar works well with those apps to make it easier to do certain things, as the Pro has the touchbar compared to the Air. Also has a little better battery life and 61W USB-c Power Adapter compared to the Air having a 30W.
@@ItsJustRuru I had touchbar and prefer Mac without it. Power adapter is sufficient for charging so I don’t see any pros in that pro has bigger adapter. Both will charge computers. M1 will be enough for programming. You will be able to make money on it, no doubts. Take Air with M1.

I currently have a MacBook Pro mid 2012, so it has about 9 years, and I just bought an Air M1. I got the 512 GB drive but 8GB of ram. I do think the 8 GB on this mac will be good enough for quite some time for me. I edited videos in my old one and I'm a designer so if I could do that in my 9 year old Mac I'm assuming I can do even more on this new one.
How's it going with 8GB of ram?

Harnoor, what USB hub you're using with your MBA? I am looking for something with at least 2 USB 3.1/3.2, Ethernet and USB-C Power Delivery to charge the Mac so there is still at least 1 USB-C port left on the Mac.
Once use your macbook m1 in a absolute dark environment, and look at the bezel near rubber gasket, you might find some light leakage around the bezels. That’s a common issue in m1’s macbook.

Hey I think for android studio there is already a built in supported M1 vm. I use the android 12.0 arm64v8a , it runs faster and smoother too.
This has helped clear some of my hesitations for buying new m1 macs! Thanks for following up on your reviews after 1 year usage! Mentioning specific progamming apps was really helpful also!

Currently, where I'm living from at least, the MBP 13' M1 with 256GB is cheaper (1029€) than the MBA 13' M1 with 512GB (1059€). Should I get the Air with 512GB or the Pro with 256GB? Or should I wait till the Apple event, in case they announce a new MacBook?
Is it a good strategy to get the MBA regardless and, in case Apple announces a new MacBook with the M2, ask for a refund to get that one instead? In case a lot of people get it and the MBA becomes expensive again...
I'm waiting for the Apple Event on the 8th of March to see. If they announce an M2 Macbook Air then Imma go for that. If we're lucky. We may even get a mini LED display on it too. So we'll have to see

I usually run my spark workflows on databricks community version instead of local. Save the built model and download and reuse on local for predictions on huge datasets.
Also 16GB ram is must but the Air wont give *sustained* performance due to lack of fan.
Buy Sandisk/Samsung external SSD, 256GB internal is enough.
As per ur comment, “upgrading” to 16GB after purchasing is not possible.

I’m 52 and find interest in cloud computing , coding, security and design but a complete beginner, will the company and courses you mentioned in your intro be best for me?
I have been using an M1 base model (8gb/256gb) as a Computer Science student and also while undertaking the Full Stack Engineer course over at Codecademy and I have faced zero issues. My take on whether someone should buy the basic model or not is this: If you are not doing video editing and you are on a budget, get the base model. What you are actually missing on vs the Pro model is connectivity (ports), which is fixed by buying a docking station (for those that want to connect it to an external monitor via HDMI). The fan of the pro does not matter.
TLDR: If you DO have the money, get the Pro. If you don't, get the M1 base model and you won't be missing out on anything if you are not doing video editing.
Planning to buy base model. Is 256GB enough for developer? If we run 4 to 5 application instance will it hang? 512GB macbook m1 is out of stock.
@@loveiyappan It will hang. When you will need mote storage just get a Sabrent Rocket Nano 2TB or a Samsung T7 Shield 2TB and you will be fine.

Don’t worry! It happened with me also but slowly it is stable to 97% now after using it for 8 months
Just keep charging ur Mac when it is drop to 30% and don’t keep it for long when it’s 100% charged
Don’t always shut down ur MacBook just keep it in sleep mode if u use it regularly!

I have an m1 macbook air. I was blown away by the reviews mentioning superb battery life and flawless performance. But it gives me only about 6-7 hours of battery life and lags a lot too. I have an 8gb base version though.

I have a similar battery result - only about 7.5 hours @50% brightness and watching video in 720p - no work tasks whatsoever. I am definitely returning it. P.S. I bought it with 16GB ram and 1TB SSD, so it literally cost me double of the base model. The machine is nice and well-suited for my work needs, however given my experience with less than half the often quoted battery life, I suspect there's something wrong with it, and I want a replacement, not a refund.
Battery cycle count is only 8, and health indicated 100%. No idea what the problem is.
If you use it without internet browsing or if it is constantly connected to wifi then is the issue... otherwise for normal browsing it is around 11-12 hours

Absolutely. Im using it for programming on python C++ and java on 3 different apps namely Vs code, jupyter and eclipse and all work very smoothly. Its a really good experience i have a base model mac air m1. Insanely smooth on multitasking you'll love every bit of it.. but just wait for the apple event on 18 ocy

Most coding apps are supported and work really well. (P.S. I love to listen to songs while coding and the speakers are the bestt!)

M1 macbooks are everywhere so if you haven not heard about AI&ML apps not working means they work fine.
Furthermore, the bigger companies will obviously bring support for Apple silicon for everything since Apple is going to make M series chips in future also.
These are the reasons why i bought my m1 air for my college Btech Ai&ml

if i talk about value then let suppose macbook pro 13 inch with student discount cost aprrox 110000 and with 512gb storage and 16 gb ram it will be around 146000 and the upcoming macbook 16 inch with student discount will be around 180000 with 512 gb and 16 gb and more capable m1x and a bigger screen it seems to be a great value product for me at least (mini led) (more battery )(more ports) whats your take on this

Man, the 700 euro intel i5 windows laptop has lasted me 5 years of intense use and it may only need replacement as a laptop because of faulty hinges. Otherwise it will act as a "desktop" computer from now on. Definitely future proofing discussions are overrated!!!

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE SAME MODEL THAT SOMETIMES IT'S LID DOESN'T OPEN WITH ONE HAND AND ONE MORE IS THAT ITS BATTERY LIFE DEGRADED TO 97 FROM 99 IN JUST 2 WEEKS.
nice video, however using the m1 air MacBook Air for first time and my first buy am still happy. except the dirt on the trackpad sides and also on screen is a fingerprint magnet, other than that am fine with it. I bought it in India with high price as the government taxes are high here. but sad part is am not using the m1 MacBook Air 256gb basic entry variant to any heavy tasks at all. am just using for browsing UA-cam only.

I would advise to go with 16GB if you program. 8GB are used just by having a few safari tabs open. I bought the 8GB just because the price difference was huge (450€)
@@lothecruel the majority buy the base because of the price difference. In my country Apple costs a lot so I was planning on buying it in Italy. The issue is that it needs about 3 weeks for the order to be ready with 16GB. You can only buy it directly on Apple because resellers sell just 8GB Macbooks

And also Will Air heats up a lot in above use cases. Or should I go for pro.
I am definitely taking 16gb ram either it is Air or pro.
Please do reply. I really need to buy a laptop as early as possible.

Also 1 thing I really hate is that zooming on chrome using trackpas is laggy just like you showed on photoshop but on safari it's smooth.. I'm using the latest chrome version and still... So this small is forcing me to switch to safari and not use chrom :/
Chrome is only good for development anyway. I've been using Safari exclusively on my M1 Air since I got it a month ago, zero compatibility issues so far
Did you make sure that you downloaded the ARM optimized version of Chrome? Open the Activity Monitor app and check if it says "Intel" or "Apple" for Chrome.
@@chiroyce I have the Arm version of Chrome. Can you tell me which Mac you use, intel or silicone? do you also face this issue?
@@harmonjp2714 We have a family M1 MacBook Air at home, and in that I use Firefox, so I don't know. Firefox for M1 runs very smoothly and without any problems.
Lots of software are not supported in M1 Chip…I tried to install Virtual Box and found that m1 chip not allow it. Don’t know why!!!🤷♂️🤷♂️
