Trolling Summer Walleye at High Speeds

- How to use crankbaits to troll for walleye. Deadly tactic for finding and triggering walleye. Beat the heat with speed and crankbaits to catch walleyes during the hottest days of the summer. In this walleye trolling video, we troll Salmo Hornets in 3 to 8 feet of water with planer boards on Lake Oahe with veteran guide Chad Schilling. Fishing the Akaska area out of Swan Creek. Great way to cover water and trigger fish. The key was to keep covering water and to troll fast, up to three miles per hour to not only eliminate water but trigger fish. #walleyefishing #trolling #southdakota

Really enjoy your videos. Seem to always pick up a little something from them. I’ve watched a couple of your seminars at some of the Boat Shows I’ve worked and those were informative as well. You seemed like on of the guys that could sit beside me in the goose pit or in the fishing boat and fit right in. Zero arrogance. Keep up the good work.
That is a blast Jason great show I was south of mobridge over the 4th and just crushed em shallow lots of big fish plus bonus 42” northern keep doin it my friend love the walleye shows
+Kyle Schlicht awesome area!
I used to fish out of Little bend area, 2009-15. Some of the best times of my life. Thank you for the video.
+Rob Mulert thanks for watching and commenting!
Funny story. Just got done fishing the sd walleye classic in akaska where chad took 3rd place (2022). I’m in bed watching my buddies new walleye video and this is the next video recommended. I know chad and recognized him immediately so I had to watch it. Best part, I remember the day this video was filmed because we were loading our pontoon while they were filming their outro interviews at the south ramp. Thought it was cool he had a camera crew out filming, didn’t realize at the time that it was for a Jason Mitchell video. Pretty sure they ended up having a better day than us now that I see what they were up to.
What a couple of class act guys, I've watched alot of videos from Jason Mitchell outdoors and they have made me a alot better angler, but ive grew up fishing out if akaska and Chad and Ronda have always treated me with open arms and always took the time to let me know what is working and where to fish, oahe wings and walleyes are the real deal and class act.
I just got home from a 3 day fishing trip at Oahe guided by Chad Shilling (and his son). Those guys worked their tails off and gave my buddies and I a great experience and some great memories. Not to mention a belly full of fish and some for the freezer. I'm hoping to go fish with those guys again next year, Chad was a great host and guide.
Great to hear! We think the world of Chad as well.

Great episode Jason. Do you remember what the water temps were back in those bays at the time?
High seventies to low eighties

+John Wilkening awesome!
great show! what kind of rod holders are you using? are you you using mono or braid on inside boards?
+Pat Foss Stealth Rod Holders, using leadcore with a twenty foot braid leader inside.
Were the walleye showing up on the graph?
+Farmboy at times but not always.
I fish winnebago a lot, Salmos work well there too. Dont think i saw you catch 2 fish on the same color. Same thing on 'bago. weird
+Loufish K yea we hustled that day to try and figure out what the bigger fish wanted. If there was an overall trend, it seemed like bright fire tiger type colors were the best.
do you have any tips for a young person to start a fishing youtube channel?
+Nathan Cannons be true to yourself and have fun.
Be real...keep a few eaters. Fillet a few.
+gord johnson we eat plenty of fish but just keep what we need. Some days we just don’t need anymore.
