I have noticed two differences in technique between Saxon and Justin. First Saxon often actively rubs the stone across the wheel as if he is more used to a static grinding block, whereas Justin only moves the stone to use the power of the wheel. Secondly Justin almost always rubs some or all of the edges first in order to better judge how to proceed whereas I feel Saxon appears to make a call and starts going in earlier. Love watching you both.
@@blackopaldirectPatience comes with age. I have a boy and a girl about Saxon's age. Patience is not one of their strong points, either. Saxon still did a great job! 👏👏
Saxon (Young Skywalker as your Dad calls you)... great job! This opal cutting gift definitely runs in the family. Boy, did you make your Dad and Grandpa in heaven proud today. 🥰🥰
@@judyfrey5919 I wasn’t being mean, just pointing out that he should slow down. Obviously Justin (his own father) agrees with me, he told him to slow down at least a half dozen times on the very first gem stone. It’s called constructive criticism. 👍🏼
I'm late watching this today, dear Justin and Saxon! Nice to see Saxon cutting opals, and he has ✨️IT ✨️ just like his dad and grandfather! 👋💎👍 Greetings to you all at BOD from me in Sweden ❤🇸🇪!
I missed the live, but, I must watch, even if late. Saxon, you’re doing an amazing job! Your dad is a terrific teacher! It’s beautiful to know there are three generations creating such masterpieces!
I’m late to the party but it’s great to see a family doing the ‘family thing’ It’s like seeing them walk for the first time (again)when they pick up your tools and do a fantastic job!❤❤❤
Christmas in California is a bit chillier then is your neck of the planet. Great job Saxon. You have a good eye for this. All the best to you and yours.👍💯
This is a super excycting live!! Super honored to be here for saxtions first full live cutting sessions!! Doing absolutely amazing!!! History in the making.
I brought skin on salmon fillets from Aldi for dinner tonight and they still had scales on them, good thing I know how to descale a fish. A couple of nice stones there.
the black potch with the blue color bar was curved (as seen from the side) so grinding down in the center to try and find a flat face would only just blow through the color in the middle. You very gently reveal the colorbar, matching the curved shape. You end up with a "cabochon" with that thin curved colorbar as the "dome"
I get anxious for Saxon. It has to be nerve wracking to be on camera with Dad advising. Talk about being "in the cross hairs". Saxon, huge respect! Phew!!!
I jumped ahead & just when i was thinking "Who's hand's are these?" The skin says Saxon, but the moves are Justin's.?? Then @ 5:56 you clarified who's who! Thanks again from Colorado!
Hi guys, I realize that a lot of people really love those live sessions, and that is great. Personally though, I rather ejoy the videos where Jason is just quietly commenting on the way the cut goes. For me, this is pure ASMR, whereas this format for me is to hectic what with all the comments comming in. If you get more feedback like mine, I would be very happy if you would consider maybe doing a bit more videos along those lines. All the best!
Thanks for the feedback. The long form videos take a lot of time and energy to make every week and we cannot possibly run a business and make videos to that capacity. I would get burnout. I appreciate your thought though
Excellent stones I had a beautiful Solid Black Oval 2 ct 14 ct solid yellow gold ring. It was a very beautiful ring I feel so stupid I recently had a Spinal fusion at 4 levels in Oct the green waste bin was empty so I went out in front yard hose bin out cut some roses to repot. Then came in. Saturday night had shower when to bed then I notice my ring was missing went out front yard back yard could find the it.
Thank you Saxon for the adventure and seeing some amazing Opals ! You did a great job of cutting Opals !
Thanks again!
All so pretty, like little galaxies 😊
Well done Saxon and Justin for allowing the skills to develop 😅 great results 👏
Love watching saxon cut, he should do his own lives, good job guys
Good work Saxon! Thanks for the lesson! Keep Smiling and Stay Grateful

I got a little bit teary, watching Saxon cut. 3 generations of opal cutting in Australia, so precious 🌏💝💝💝
Great to watch Saxon on the wheel. Love seeing the generational baton being passed down 💖
My dad was an opal cutter. Made some nice jewelry!
I love how Saxon turns the stone and evaluates just like his dad.
Sitting here in me new domicile, in the woods of North Carolina, enjoying an evening watching Black opal direct…
I'm impressed with Saxon finger work, a chip of the old block. keep up the good work
Cool! Saxon is there! He is coming right along. Good job Saxon!

He does and acts like it
I’m no pro but Saxton stresses me out to the max! He cuts so FAST and removes material at a very insane pace! Patience Saxton, patience!
Saxon, you're moving along with some great confidence. Nice job.
@@patriciamoore348Well said. He's under the supervision of the best opel cutter, he can't go wrong.
If you can’t say something nice, say nothing,

Is Australian opal temperature sensitive? As in to cold and it will crack.
Nope I put my opals in the freezer to take them off the dop sticks. Only heat with a flame will crack an opal
Wasn't there a band called Masters And Apprentices? Lol
😂 yep
Get lines replacement similar to cataract surgery, but you’ll have 2020 vision and no cataracts ever
I’ll look into it
