17S15 - Driveshaft Flexible Coupling Replacement - 2015-2017 Ford Transit

- REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
In the affected vehicles, the driveshaft flexible coupling may crack with increasing mileage, resulting in driveline noise and vibration. Continued driving with a cracked flexible coupling may cause separation of the driveshaft, resulting in a loss of motive power while driving, or unintended vehicle movement in park without the parking brake applied. In addition, separation of the driveshaft can result in secondary damage to surrounding components, including brake and fuel lines. A driveshaft separation may increase the risk of injury or crash.

I have had two of those hockey pucks installed so far, each one has noise after about 10 days, now it is in the shop and they say they have the 'permanent shaft replacement' on the way, will take a look when done to see if the hockey puck is still there. frickin' transmission!!
What kind of noise or symptoms did you get?
Curtis Ruffin what did the noise sound like? Was it part of the recall? Mine makes a yawning sound when pulling into a parking spot
Thanks for posting I'm a fresh hire Ford tech here. Your Video helped alot. Liked and Subbed!
2016 Transit 250 just had another failure at 100,000 niles. Also have to replace drive shaft. Cost me $2400.00. Ford offered $435.00
Been experiencing vibration in the drive train for the past 3- weeks, 2017- Transit -350-HD Dually , 80,000 miles, this explains what Iam feeling, recall letter came today!! This van has been nothing but a nightmare/down time. If it isn’t the brakes every 20,000 miles its a blown engine at 58,000 miles. Hard to understand how a vehicle that has been in production for over 67 Years has soo many problems ( don’t believe me look it up) its almost like the reverse engineer the parts to fail to make more money ? The only thing that i like about the van is the way it maneuvers!! And i can stand up in it, but the downside with the height is its God awful to drive on a windy day!!
Michael Kastner I work on them everyday trust me they are junk
@@wesleysnipes9395 will that take care of the humming?
@@trublue2319 there is a permanent fix out now that eliminates the coupling. It’s under a different recall
Is this a 3.5 eco boost engine?
I've got a vibration between 20 and 30 mph after this fix. Have you ever seen that? 2016, 175,000 miles, there was a slight vibration before but much more pronounced after this replacement.
did u mark the driveshaft before u took it off
where to get parts, driveshaft assembly costs $ 900. the dealer sells only the complete set

This is how it should have been done the first time. Whoever Ford paid to put a hockey puck in the driveline should have these repairs taken out of their salary.
this as in not using a hockey puck? is there an alternate metal coupling piece? where would you be able to get it / part number?
Mine has lasted 284,000 miles 🤷♂️ I’m just now needed to repair
F.O.R.D. stands for Fix Or Repair Daily. I wish Toyota made a high roof cargo van. But right now it looks like Mercedes Sprinter is the best way to go.
My dealer performed recall “17S15” the paperwork says replaced a bushing, flexible coupler, and hardware. I looked at the driveshaft and all three parts still look rusty. Part numbers 36 4A109, 36 6113209, and 36 KEY is listed on my paperwork. It was just done last week. Is this the permanent fix? Why don’t I have a shiny new part of the driveshaft like in this video?
jonkolo13 same with me. Screws still rusted no marks on them like never removed
They just put another failure prone rubber cupling in it..
According to my local dealer this kit is not available. Does anyone know when this will be available?
They used to only replace the hockey puck. This video is of the "permanent" fix which is available in April. Take a look at yours, if it is damaged make them replace it.
I was told by Towsand Ford in t they did the permanent fix in April, never fixed the problem . I looked at it and they just did the old repair! Carrier bearing is bad ! looks like on this video it was changed . Now they want to charge me !! Also I bought into the big warranty scam when a bought it new ! This dealer told me the warranty is aftermarket and have to look into it ! Floors going down hill and fast ! So pissed
give spare part numbers
What is the yoke nut size?
How long should this take? My coworker had this done and they had the van for weeks.
LoebRules I just had mine done. Dropped it off Monday and got it back this morning. 2 day shipping for parts during that time as well.
Its about 2 hours of work.
I just buy a 2015 T250, but I noticed it vibration when 60-70 miles speed.
Can we get a parts list on here? I’m probably going to be doing this myself in the next month. I asked what the “permanent” repair would be from ford and the guy said it wasn’t this. It’s another piece of rubber with a metal shroud around it. So it essentially sounds like a bullshit repair to get through the recall, but does nothing to make a solid conversion that can be relied on. Guess I’ll see, but in my head it’s already sounding like bullshit.
First and last ford for me.
This is how it should have been done from the start which is common for buses and trucks. Whoever the fucking intern was at ford that decided on using a rag joint was a complete bell end.
I understand your anger, my 2015 Transit 250 is on its fifth flex joint which I just replaced today Sunday 08/29/21, I made the fourth one, which was installed by a transmission shop after replacing my transmission in January 2020, last some 160000 miles! It was shredded to pieces, and it is a miracle I made it home!
So I have a 2015 transit that had the interim repair with the hockey puck done in June 2017, took it to ford last week and they said the permanent repair was only for new vehicles and they refuse to install this fix. Who do I contact?
Jose Munguia oh no it a recall they have to do it
Jose Munguia does ur van make noise now when pulling into a driveway or parking spot? Grinding noise?
there is a recall for ALL ford transit. Just had mine done last week. for free.
@@vantime2911 did that eliminate the shutter / drone noise? I get it between 60 and 75 miles per hour mostly on the highway
@@akketterman Sorry can't say I have evr heard that noise. Could be your rear axle, tires, hanger bearings, rear wheel bearings. How many miles / KMs do you have on your van now?
Is this a EcoBoost 3.5? 2015
what part did they use?
Just bought a 2015 Ford Transit 150 with 56,000 miles on it from my local Ford Dealership. How can I find out if this has been done?
call the dealership
Look underneath the vehicle. If you see what looks like a rubber donut at the rear of the transmission, it has not been done. If there is a metal U-joint there instead, it's been performed.
How much cost to replace driveshaft?
my vibration is from 40mph continuous to 70+ anyone have a good fix for this. I would hate to trash my 2015 van not much trade in value as is. i would love to find a solution. i can't even put the original flex disk back in.
Anyone notice difference on transmission shifts after this recall.
My transit seems to shift slower since they did the recall and made it slower.
I have 2017 3.5 ecoboost
Will keep this in mind, having mine done today
I got my schedule for 06/01/22 I will post here if I notice something

This is a recall. It’s covers full under warranty
Is flex coupling the same as Ujoint?
Yes, but only for a very small turning degree.
