- in this video i show you how to install the new Dension smartlink. this new product allows you to mirror the android phone on to the idrive system and control it with the idrive knob. apps are selectable via the knob and allows for easy video,music playback using many apps. using with an iphone you can just mirror the app, not available for knob control. smartlink also allows hands free calling, and external video hookup.

I have an iPhone 5s and galaxy note 2 os 4.3 should change something in phone settings? Because I only get black screen when I press TV
so this all connects up with the non sat navigation model?? thanks guys

I saw Your vids about smartlink and 500s as well, thats why I'm wondering what would You recommend from Dension for android phone, 500s bt or the smartlink? both of them have almost similar prices (at least in Polish stores) but now I'm getting confused about the choice... Can You help please? obviosly it would be for an e60 ccc business and paired with android phone like I said earlier... Oh, and there's also GROM... hmmm
Does it work for the idrive without navigation? The square ones not rectangular screen like yours

Dear Rip,
In case of iPhone you will need a genuine Lightning Digital AV adapter however you will only get mirroring without control. iPhone can only be controlled from the iPhone user interface.

Does this work with the older CCC system?
Is audio transmitted via Bluetooth or data cable? I am not a fan of Bluetooth sound quality…
letterphase bluetooth. the quality is as good as it gets...your in a car, what more quality can you expect?

In order to use the Smartlink in your car you need to enable the TV and Video-in-Motion functions in your car which can also be done by Dension Smartlink Enabler (shop.dension.com/en/smartlink-enabler).
Cool thanks for the helpful video! I was looking on densions website a few weeks ago and saw this but never found a price. Also how did you get it to work with the iPhone, b/c on their website when I was looking they only showed Android devices being compatible.
I too have an E60. You seem to be very techy, and i was wondering if you knew if I got this would I still be able to add the backup camera feature through modmynav, or if this would make that not possible.

in the video you see me using the iphone 5s, this is done with a lightning to hdmi adapter from apple. keep in mind, when using the iphone you can only mirror the image, and cannot be controlled with the idrive knob, but sound does work, so you can switch between songs and album art shows, videos etc, i will explain more in part 2 on using the dension smartlink. to answer using the modmynav, i have not used it so i cannot say it will work together, i will try to get ahold of a unit and do some usage with it. thanks for the feedback, part 2 hopefully up tomorrow.

try contacting Denison. I havnt seen one in a long time. Most people just use a Bluetooth adapter or android unit

not sure if it works on the MASK unit, send them an email as they will have more info on what it works or what you might use.
Smartlink cannot be fitted into MASK based systems because there is no factory video input available. The only way would be if you fit a specific video break-in device which provides video input. In this case the "Smartlink for cars with an A/V input" would be the product to use (SML1GEN).
