- Sonic Origins and Sonic Jam speed up the footage of CDs ending and start the credits music early (Origins Remove the orignal sound effects all together). Sonic gems Collection and the 2011 Remaster appear to slow down the footage to fit the timing of the credits audio from the Sega CD original.
Here I have recut the ending entirly so now the footage from origins is timed much better so it doesn't look either too fast or too slow and the audio now features both The sound effects and calm theme of the japanese ost as well as the Credits theme with vocals and sync up with the Visuals
also I boosted the Footages gamma as it was too low in origins.

Okay here's my final verdict after months of considering all the evidence: I think the speed it plays at in Origins *is* the speed the footage was originally animated at, but they timed it with the knowledge that it'd be slowed down on real hardware. If you watch the original opening on Mega-CD, you'll see that massive chunks of the animation has been removed to keep pace with the song. It also has a much choppier appearance. The ending, however, is much smoother with nothing removed. Because this scene uses SFX, and had to hit certain emotional beats, it was important to present it in full. They even added in extra details that weren't in the original animation (Amy blinks on Mega-CD and her skirt ruffles in the wind). With that said, I don't think it was intended to be seen at the speed it was animated.
Big evidence for this is how Sonic falls back to Earth at 0:05; it looks incredibly hoaky and inelegant, like its been sped-up. In the original and the 2011 version, its a pretty graceful descent. The way the smoke plume clears at 01:09 just screams "x2" to me. The Quartz Quadrant sequence is also really jarring, the whole thing blazes by so fast you barely have time to even register the key poses. But definitely the most telling moment is the Eggman canyon blowing up and freeing the planet at 0:10. There's just no drama or tension to it; the explosion takes one and a half seconds and Little Planet just smoothly glides away. The original scene built the moment up and made it feel more exciting; you can clearly see Eggman's eyes light up red right before his face blows up. Now its like a sub-frame detail. This is the most obvious case to me of a scene not playing back as intended. I'd love for the original timings and SFX to be patched in, but God knows that aint ever happening.
For all we know the original format presented from toei and junio to sonic team may of been timed completely differently from either way we’ve seen it officially
For one thing while editing my cut together I noticed the origins version is running at 60fps but clearly isn’t frame blended or anything as every frame is super clean but they wouldn’t of animated it at 60 as as the standard would’ve been 12fps but who knows maybe it was animated at a higher fps as we don’t know what conditions sega requested them
Sonic jame by contrast plays at 30fps but runs at the same speed as origins but mind you the raw file is incredibly compressed to play on the sega saturn it was no sony playstation
@@dshaynietheawesome - Well that answers that. There’s absolutely no chance this was animated at 60fps, considering literally all anime productions are shot at 24fps. There’s a possibility it was animated on ones (meaning one drawing per frame rather than two), but even this would be exceedingly rare for traditional cell animation. I guess that gives some insight into why certain moments are so awkwardly fluid.

Fun fact in the cd,pc,and gamecube released if you get all the timestones the ending will still show eggman with a timestone which could mean that originally there were 8 timestones in the sonic cannon
That scene only happens in the bad ending, where Sonic didn't collect all the Time Stones.
Nice work! I still prefer the 2011 version though, the slow down gives it a more cinematic vibe. Here especially the explosion and the planet flying away just feel too fast and sped up. Or maybe i'm just used to it:)

I like how Sonic can fall from the Death Egg, while holding Amy who I presume weighs roughly the same as him so thats twice his mass, and he barely even stumbles and runs off immediately.
The gravity must be less than Earth's, or at least weak enough for him not to take any fall damage 😂😂😂

But in terms of canon it has to be because the only other ending ends with mechanized little planet reappearing with the words try again

In the Bad Ending, Eggman still has a time stone and uses it to undo Sonic's work and work from there, as Sonic runs off into the distance. Then, he uses it to recharge Metal Sonic in Sonic 4 episode 2, and race with Metal Sonic in Sonic Generations.

Metal sonic has had multiple models across the classic adventure and modern era’s and the classic metal sonic that falls apart in sonic cd is suddenly modern metal Sonic’s design and in one peice by sonic 4?
Also the sonic 4 cutscene reuses assets from generations stardust speedway which is probably bad future to look cool just like silvers boss fight is in crisis city even though it technically shouldn’t exist and this version of silver is from sonic rivals meaning he’s never been in crisis city
