Why I Won't Do the Rover Pet Walking and Dog Sitting Gig App

- I began to sign up for the Rover Dog walking and pet sitting gig app. I couldn't finish signing up because they wanted me to pay for my own over priced background check. Have you had experience with the App Rover? Let me know in the comments below! Please Subscribe and like the video to show support.

PP what up man where ya been it's been a while? Hope you're still breathing out there.
20% is not a small percentage
As a main hustle, not recommended unless your boarding. Side hustle? 100% worth it. I think the fee is a smart way to find people who aren't sketchy. Being a side hustle, as a business, paying $25-35 for every person that fills out an application because they think they are a pet sitter, really doesn't make sense. Honestly a small price to pay. I personally find most owners are also quality customers, because they know the person in their home doesn't have a record. I personally think if you find it "a scam" to run business like this, it really wasnt designed for you.
I went full time on Rover and made my very first video ( i had to restart my channel from scratch) about my full time income on rover. I'm super excited :') i feel like no one believed me when I said I made over $10,000 in June >_< definitely start it as a part time at first. You wont regret it!!!!!!
I've been paid out $8,300 from Rover for January-May so that's about $2k a month. More than I get from PM, and some people even tip! Still need PM to get all the bills paid, but at least the dogs don't cost gas money.
What about Wag?
@@jasonlovesmusicreacting882 wag sounds terrible, they have fixed prices and take 40% of the dog walkers pay. It's kinda like Postmates, no pay for travel or time not actively on a dog walk, they rely on tips.
I don't do the on demand walking, just take care of dogs by babysitting them essentially.
@@MeganPerry Do you have previous experience with dog caring? Because I don't. I've only owned cats lol.
@@jasonlovesmusicreacting882 yeah, I had dogs growing up!
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. coming back with an update! I LOVE ROVER!!! It became me and my husband's full time job! I logged my 1 year update on my youtube channel. we made over 230k on rover in one calendar year!! Super duper crazy. i'm just so grateful for the platform :') so glad to see you helping others too!!!!!!
Thank you for your feedback! Can you tell me what Rover asks on the background check part? What kind of informations does it asks on this part.
Just booked a two week stay for $2,030. (Three dogs) Did a three night stay last weekend for $350. It took months to start getting requests but now it seems pretty lucrative as a side hustle. I doubt I’ll get many more long term stays but pretty excited about this upcoming one. Just a mile from my house and I’m still able to work DoorDash shifts during the stay as the dogs are able to be alone for 4-6 hours.
I did not have to pay for a background check, but my boyfriend did🤔 I found that very odd. We signed up about 6 months apart so maybe something changed in that time period. Either way, we’ve both been very happy with Rover. We make about $600-$800/month each depending on the time of year. He is a full time student and I work full time from home so it’s great to have that supplemental income with the flexibility to set our own hours and rates. Plus hanging out with super cute dogs and cats is the cherry on top!!
As long as you both make money, makes me happy. 😊
It’s a shame you didn’t. I paid for the background check and built my pet sitting business getting about 20-50% of my business through rover. From Christmas Eve till January 1 I’m taking care of enough dogs and cats through rover to make my January rent.

Definitely good to know for those looking for side jobs outside Postmates! Thanks for the info.
I have a fenced yard which is rare in my condo heavy 'hood. I make my boyfriend watch the dogs at night when I go delivering, I only do Postmates and Rover. I didn't have to pay for a background check, maybe that's by state? I get between $50-$150+ a day from Rover.
Megan Perry I hope it works because wag had nothing available
That’s what I was thinking because I never paid to start!
And me too I couldn’t get wag in my area
Thanks for the information it was informative and helpful and also appreciate it.
very honest video. thanks man. I agree with everything you've said.
I have made 1,500 dollars in one month doing Rover. It's not a full time job, and they never claim it is. I live in a tourist area, so I get a bunch of clients from people who don't want to leave their dogs in a hotel. Without a doubt, I have made most of my money from cats, which no one ever works with. It's easy money, and tips can come to 40% of the total. I think why I have so many clients is because I am this small cute woman with large eyes and dimples, so it's like having adult little Debbie watch your fur kids. It's awesome, and I love pets. I have a full time job, but I am still making a solid $200 per month doing drop ins.
I feel that Rover might be best suited to students, retirees, or perhaps stay at home Moms or Dads. It just looks to be a way to earn a modest supplemental income, and one can set their expectations accordingly for earnings, which would be dictated by the hours of availability to do the service.
And I agree that anyone should be able to work any platform that meets their needs. This video was just why I won't do it and I'm an animal lover. (As you will see in my videos from time to time)
I know this video is over 3 years old, but last year I made over 35k and I'm already on track to clear 40k with Rover alone. I did have to pay for the background check, but I think it's been worth it.
How much did you have to pay in taxes on the 40 k you made . I’m cracking 7,000 but not sure how much I should set aside for tax purposes .
@godmademillionare I had to single it out since this isn't my only source of income, but after deductions I had to pay about 4k for all of that. Its hard to tally though because my entire print out has all my income taxes totalled together, so that 4k is a ball park guess but it's close enough
I mean I definitely get the point of why you have to do a background check since your basically going into people's homes and staying overnight there and the homeowners just want to make sure you don't have a felony record of home invasion and home robbery but why doesn't only allow you to do a background check if your only doing home visits but if only want to in-home dogy boarding at your house you shouldn't have to take one
I love Rover. I only board. They bring the dog to my home. I make $1000 easily every month. More than my Poshmark business.
I've had success on Rover, I'm in the UK. I've made £600 a month looking after dogs. :)
They didnt make me pay for the background check?
It is hard to have success and pull regular clients in sometimes, especially when customers forget to leave reviews. I've been doing dog sitting for 6 months now and only managed 4 reviews.
But once I get a meet and greet then people realise I'm experienced and are happy to book me.
Postmates is terrible too. Sued them through EEOC. Violations in CA during 2020
When you guys find a booking and accept it . From then how long does it take for the owner of the pet to respond . I’ve gotten 2 requests and on my end I’ll accept but I’ll wait for them to accept and nothing . Is this normal ?
People’s pets are often a part of the family. I wouldn’t want someone without a background check working at my kids’ daycare.
I agree, but I believe an employer should pay for this.
I’m a teacher. Our background checks are $50.
Luanne Santana I’m not sure if you have a pet. But when you do, they are like your child. I would want to know that my dog is with someone who has been background check. Even at the same level that I am checked to teach children.
I believe if your credentials / resume gets you enough to be considered a hire on, the company should pay for a background check. It's their policy, not mine. Just my opinion.
I agree with you, I just believe the company should pay for the background check, not the worker. It's my own opinion, I am not saying do away with background checks.
If you do the background check now they do not charge you? But maybe it depends in what state you live at?
I think paying a small fee for a background check is smart. I made that back in one boarding. I think my clients like that we passed a background check.
I feel you bro I would t do that 35 bucks is a flat fee for service I think
That mighty ducks hat is awesome!! Where did you get that!?
I had a friend I helped out of a jam and he gifted it to me. He got it from the team store. Go Ducks!
I think something cool to do would be to make cards .but can you let me know where to advertise them And some tips on what to do Like how to advertise myself
I did not have to pay for the background check. Thats weird.
They must trust you lol.
Interesting thoughts. I saw a classmate girl have 50 reviews so I tried it. Right now I have a gig for 70$ a week and it seems descent
That's paying a bill, get that money!
I’ll have to double check but I’m pretty sure they didn’t charge me to do a background check but maybe I didn’t finish it lol
either way I have gotten clients and I’ve never paid for anything. So idk
Dude.. get the background check , pay for it and try out rover.. UA-cam is full of success stories
I appreciate your video. But I had to say: I def had 75$ background checks before (children’s gymnastics clubs) so the price kinda didn’t shock me
WOW! That's so much for a bg check. I'm glad you're flexible to pay for that....(*dad joke, I'm sorry lol)
Post mates keeps giving me the runaround with my background check I’ve been waiting three weeks and customer service isn’t helpful
I board dogs but I went on Facebook and was like hey who needs a pet sitter so much easier don't have to deal with red tape I'm making about $700 a month
I think changing the name of the channel to paid gig Paul would be better. Post mates seams to be the place many are leaving do to. It being able to afford to deliver and make gas money
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't $1000 more than $35?
1000>35
Rover didn't charge me anything for my background check.
Where are you bro
Just wasted time signing up and I get to a background check part. I'm not paying. They will review my application afterwards. 😂🤣😅
I just started a week ago and you make the background check money fast! I had 0 reviews and 0 testimonials and got booked instantly! It’s the easiest side gig ever! Would totally recommend. Don’t get discouraged!
I have became anti dog/pets after a local neighbor kept having thier boxer getting out and charging and ripping my shirt up in front of my house on the street. After confronting her... she spitting in my face for saying if it comes out again I'll shotgun it in the street and that my wife is pregnant and we live a few hundred feet in front of an elementary school. Cops were involved and I stood my ground. LoL the look on her face when the cops told her I was in the right and she committed assault for spitting on me was priceless.
1 week later the dog mauled a small 4 year old school girl down the street while riding a small bicycle. The pet owner was carried off for a slue of child and animal abuse violations.
I know pets are mis classified as family member and 99.9% are amazing but if the owners have problems it reflects through thier pets and you could be the victim at a greater expense. Not worth it in my mind let alone potential pest that come with them.
Yeah its a little side money I guess. Not that fair start up capital or something to supplement income in school or something like that.
If I could be honest, if I had my own home I would totally board and walk dogs. I love the idea of being paid to have dogs around me 24/7
@@jackofpaultrades yeah it can be kind of like passive income if you can have someone walk them for you and you just watch a bunch of dogs just making sure they just play nice and ate well.
Actually, secret shopper job us a scam and legitimate background really costs what rover charges.
I completely disagree I paid for that $50 background check I was completely booked in July I’m completely booked in August and I’m already booking up for September I charge $95 a night so it really really is worth it at least in my area I live in Maine
If you're earning money Gabby 🙌 Anyone who earns is a hard worker and a winner in my book. KEEP IT UP!
Dude, anything on your record as a juvenile is destroyed when you turn 18. As long as it's not a felony.
Rover. You definitely need to be COMMITTED and LOVE animals to do Rover successfully and make money. But it does take time and patience. Too many horror stories. You need to do this for the animals not the money.
use the app instead
I don't think that $35 is a lot to ask for a background check and peace of mind. I wouldn't trust anyone without one because there are a lot of people who don't really like animals but are just doing it to make a dollar! And then you must wonder if they are walking your dog or just pretending to...who knows!
rip Luna
😞😖
Dude! Rover is cool app thou. So much talk about background check. Everything these days needs background check. Come on!
I never had a job where I pay for the background check.
