The most terrifying part about this movie is the fact that this is happening all the time. Human trafficking is a horrible business that still very much exists. And that this movie is a watered down look into it is just terrifying.
Eh, this is a pretty sensationalized version of human trafficking. It’s pretty rare that they just kidnap people, I won’t say it never happens, but it’s almost unheard of. The vast majority of human trafficking is done by deception. They target poor people in countries without robust social safety nets, offer them a job opportunity if they’re willing to travel to another country. Then once they’re there the traffickers hold their passport or other vital documentation, so the person is unable to leave. They’re usually in the country illegally, so they feel they cannot go to the cops. At that point their captors exploit them. Either sexually, or for their labor. Sometimes they are paid, generally not enough to do anything significant, which is also used to control them. Often the captors frame their low (or nonexistent) wages as payment for their travel and lodging. It’s less about physically restraining people and more about psychologically restraining them. Kidnapping people off the street carries far more risk than reward. It’s harder to do, takes much more effort, and attracts far more attention. Tourists in say, Paris, are very VERY unlikely to run into that sort of trouble. The biggest risk to them is being robbed or otherwise ripped off. Eastern Europe is a bit more dicey, but even then robbery is still the much bigger risk. When I lived in Europe you’d occasionally hear about folks going out to Slovakia or the Czech Republic and getting waylaid by Russian or Ukrainian mobsters, being forced to withdraw money from ATMs and such, but then they’d let you go, because it wasn’t worth the trouble to do anything else other than take the easy money.
One of the things I liked was that they had Liam Neeson fight realistically. Usually they have two men fight each other in a very extended cinematic way. The reality is a single blow on the right place will incapacitate a man, and the typical human body can't handle many blows. If you noticed, Williams favored strike was a blow to the throat. Executed properly, the fight's over right there. His "I have certain skills" speech has become famous. If you haven't watched it yet, I strongly suggest Denzel Washington in Man on Fire. His character has the same ruthless drive to rescue someone he cares about.
Back in high school I read an autobiography of Gogen "The Cat" Yamaguchi, fouder of the International Karate-dō Gōjū Kai Association. There was an incident where he was fighting several Chinese soldiers in a bunker (unfortunately, I can't remember what led up the situation), and he said there were so many and that they were at such close quarters that he couldn't use any formal karate techniques, and he just did strikes to the throat and to the groin.
This is one movie that critics didn't like, calling it clichéd and brainless action, but audiences disagreed -- as did I. I think what critics missed is how much Liam Neeson elevated the role. The expressions in his face and eyes are masterful, flowing between terrified father and relentless operative with no need for any words.
Critics have disconnected from viewers way too much anyway. If we had good critics then the average critic score would be close to the average audience score. It usually isn't
LOL, well it is. It's lazy to have a group with who is easy to hate and have the hero go after something so obvious. It's easy to get into because it manipulates human emotions. When you see a lot of films you realise how easy it is to get people worked up with a the right music and some imagery, regardless of how realistic the things happens on screen are. People like McDonalds, doesn't mean it's great food - just your average punter has no taste.
Dasha! I saw you trying not to cry when he finally got her and she embraced him and started to sob. I started to sob too. Very emotional...gets me every time. What was sobering was that he found even his old colleague was getting paid to ignore the trafficking. This problem exists all over, where people who are supposed to work to protect are just in on it.
Great reaction as always, Dash! I recall when this movie came out it was an unexpected hit because it was released early in the year when studios typically release projects that aren't expected to be popular and just want to recoup some of their costs, and it far exceeded expectations. It also reinvented Liam N's career iirc as prior to this he was mostly known for his dramatic work and not as an action star, but that changed completely after this came out..... Thanks for the great reaction!
Any father who has a daughter (like me) can relate strongly to the emotions in this movie. Personally, I find the subject of human trafficking to be incredibly dark. It's sad to think that they're are people in this world who exploit young women like this.
When my daughter was born (10 years old) the nurse in charge asked me: are you a first-time dad? I said yes and I will never forget this: "I am an only child and my father is the best. I am 26 years old and we still live together. Your daughter will be closer to you than to her mother. And its true. I'm 40 and i live with my daughfriend 🥰🤜🤛
Liam Neeson was boxer, so he was genuinely a tough guy yet he can bring such tenderness and vulnerability to a performance like Bryan's feelings for his daughter.
This kind of crime *definitely* still exists in the world, unfortunately. A minor celebrity, Andrew Tate, just got arrested for being involved with it.
Dasha, your parents wouldn't let you follow a rock band around Europe because they love you. There's nothing like a daddy's love for his little girl 💖 and his need to protect her.
No, it's just that one parent was more worried about the child's maturation, developing self-reliance, and independence than about their safety. It's a balancing act that all parents face. It just so happened that, in this case, the danger became manifest, so safety turned out to be the more critical concern.
When the guy says, "You gotta understand, it was all business." a PROPER response would be like, "That's disgusting. And this is personal." BANG It sickens me that this sort of thing actually exists in the world.
Saw this in the theatre, and the daughter's scream as she's dragged from under the bed STILL gives me goosebumps! 😱😱😱 Can't wait to see Dasha's reaction :)
He also had a cameo in Ted... He was the crazy guy trying to buy Trix cereal..?? but he was essentially playing this character 🤣 Great shout out to this movie! Doing great Dasha 😎🤘
When Kim hugs Bryan and says "You came for me," it makes me think of the opposite end of the parenting spectrum when the little girl in "The Man From Nowhere" says that her mother told her if she ever got lost, she should forget their phone number.
I always appreciate your reactions! Just a point of interest, January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and January 11th is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
You're right, Dasha, most daughters aren't going to have fathers with that kind of ability, which was just what was needed for handling this particular crisis. However, many fathers have abilities useful for handling more conventional kinds of crisis, and almost all would do anything to safeguard their daughters. In her book Too Close to the Falls, Catherine Gildiner, who had an uneven relationship with her father (as in Taken, she thought him 'overprotective'), relates once having to call him to come and retrieve her from someplace out of town, because she didn't feel safe. Although it was three o'clock in the morning and she was waking him from a sound sleep, he just said, "Where are you? I'm on my way."
One of the most satisfying movies to see the bad guys get Taken out. I wish the sequels had involved Brian's skilled buddies in a proper story, but I bet this movie damaged tourism to Paris with women for a while.
I love this over the hill vengeance genre. Seeing someone risk so much to save someone they care about or to retaliate against those who took someone away. I know it's a movie but it's good to see the bad guy lose. Consider checking out Oldboy(2003) it's an incredible vengeance thriller
If you watch "Oldboy" please watch the original Korean movie -the aforementioned 2003 film- and don't let the subtitles discourage you. The Hollywood remake from 2013 should be buried in a dump

The daughter in this movie was on a TV show called Lost, I think it'd be a good reaction show because a lot of stuff happens in it but also it's not the easiest show to figure out so it needs an extremely intelligent reactor like yourself. You could probably keep up with it better than most people.
I really enjoy this trilogy, the last one has more action (plus some Russian actors). It does show the reality of how the world is and some people believe others are just merchandise. Great reaction Dasha, you did a great job hanging tough.
Now it is time to go on to TAKEN II & TAKEN III. Some will tell you that they are not worth watching. Don't listen to them. II & III are both very good. They are serialized, the story continuing from here, with the same charaters. Don't miss them!
Man, my parents wouldn't have let me go to Detroit unsupervised at 17, much less Europe. I should point out Detroit is about a three-hour drive. Otherwise it's like "Okay, Detroit. That tells me nothing."
One of the best starts for an 54 year old action hero. Kim was ONE lucky daughter. Just wait to see how helps her driving. Lots of throat punching in this one. Liam has been in more than 150 movies. Rob Roy 1995 a Scottish highlander classic. Super hero? Darkman was from 1990. Huge huge library, wide range. Not so much a comedian. He's incredible.
7:55 Oh, look at the professional at work. The _typical_ dad would become _useless_ at the perception that his daughter is just on the verge of coming to harm. But Bryan Mills is a trained professional. Situations like this? He's faced 'em. He's faced 'em _over_ and _over_ again. It has occurred to him just how wrong it would be if something like this happened to someone in his _family,_ but he has prepared for it all the same.
Loved your reaction Dasha. It’s sad things like this go on but they do and it’s always good to be aware. Especially a young beautiful lady such as yourself

Good movie, good reaction as always. Just one thing threw me of a little, in every scene with Kim I thought "that daughter looks more like 25 then 17". Looked it up on, and funny enough, Maggie Grace was indeed 25 in 2008 when the movie came out.
They basically mocked him for wanting to watch over his daughter and then she went through the worst terror of her life and he was expected to save her. He should have silently monitored her. But then it would be a different movie.
Two Liam Neeson movies I love but nobody reacts to: "Rob Roy" (which I'm absolutely astounded isn't more highly requested) and "Dark Man" (c'mon Neeson's big breakthrough as a leading character and it's a Sam Raimi film).
@@danielschaeffer1294 I don't know how today's UA-camrs who cover HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) say about it, but back when "RoB Roy" came out, critics were calling that fight one of the best and most believable movie sword fights.

Great movie. Other great movies like that are Equalizer with Denzel Washington . Other great Liam Nisson movies are Rob Roy 1995 and Darkman 1990 which is an original superhero movie Sam Ramie made before he got the rights to do the Spiderman movies. Another great movie like this is the first Jack Reacher (Which has a great Amazon series named Reacher)
Luc Besson movies should be watched! LA femme Nikita, The Professional, Jupiter rising, Transporter series, etc. Liam is great in jagged edge, Next of kin, pretty much anything else!😮
In a similar but different way, check out, Man on Fire with Denzel Washington. I’m biased because it’s my favorite movie, but it is a good thing from a dark place.
Hi. Hope you read this. I was just thinking about an awesome movie from the 80s called NO WAY OUT starring KEVIN COSTNER and GENE HACKMAN. I can guarantee if you put it on a pole and only ask people to vote who have seen it, they will vote that you watch it. But don't look up anything about the movie. Could accidentally see spoilers.
Dasha, if you want cool movies with amazing car chase sequences, I'd suggest a few overlooked classics: * Bullitt (1967) with Steve McQueen * The French Connection 1 & 2 (1972 & 1974) with Gene Hackman * Ronin (1997) with Robert De Nero
If you Like this movie, theres a similar movie called "The Transporter", that is excellent (the sequels are garbage, however). The James Bond films are also Great. I particularly loved " A View To A Kill ", and "Casino Royal". For another special agent series, "The Borne Identity" are all good. And for a semi-comedic special agent action film set, try the "RED" series, starring Bruce Willis.

Love Darkman :)
Equalizer is good but Man on fire is better
@@OneArmedRetroGamer John Q is better
And as someone else mentioned, Kiss of the Dragon
Neeson was also good in the very underated 1998 Les Miserables
Enjoy your reactions Dasha!. Many more should subscribe. ❤
While watching this movie, my daughter asked me if I would do this if she was abducted. I said I'd probably be killed, but I'd try.
See, these film are creating unrealistic expectations! 😂
I'm pretty sure if he had a daughter the man, the myth, the legend Burt Gummer would do it and succeed, after all he spent years hunting graboids.
Easily my favorite movie. Enjoy.
They made a big mistake kidnapping the daughter of a Jedi. ✌️❤️🌹
Love LOVE the iWatch, Dasha!!😍😉
One of the scariest movies I've ever seen - because it is real. I hate the people who actually do this disgusting crime.

Liam Neeson playing a Russian Navy officer in a true story:
"K-19 The Widowmaker" (2002)
Dasha, if you want cool movies with amazing car chase sequences, I'd suggest a few overlooked classics:
* Bullitt (1967) with Steve McQueen
* The French Connection 1 & 2 (1972 & 1974) with Gene Hackman
* Ronin (1997) with Robert De Nero
Good selection. Bullitt is still up there as the one to beat.

Remember watching it when it came out ,so scary and it happens everyday💔 human trafficking is the scariest in my opinion.
Dasha, how can you stay so awesome ??? Yet another great reaction and you always put your heart into it. I loved it !!!
I can’t wait for you to watch Man on Fire
Love this series
If you Like this movie, theres a similar movie called "The Transporter", that is excellent (the sequels are garbage, however). The James Bond films are also Great. I particularly loved " A View To A Kill ", and "Casino Royal". For another special agent series, "The Borne Identity" are all good. And for a semi-comedic special agent action film set, try the "RED" series, starring Bruce Willis.
А теперь осознай, что это же происходит прямо сейчас и в твоём городе. И в любом другом. А вот Лиама Нисона нет.
Unfortunately, both statements are *too* true!
Dasha 🥰😍 I just love your reactions. You never disappoint. 👍🏽👍🏽
The human trafficking business is realistic, a dad with skills like Liam Neeson's character is not.
