Yes, she is ! I saw her , by accident ( in youtube videos ), some months ago and realised the great artist she is. Since then, I follow her, have seen her "Madama Butterfly" several times, it is marvelous. Her voice, her technique, her musicality, her sensibility and other things point her at the top 10 of the world.
Asmik Grigorian with her dramatic character (personality, respect)reminds me greatest Maria Callas. Asmik is real professional on the stage! Brava Asmik and thank you!!!!
Please don't forget that ASMIK only 50% Armenian is (from her father Gegam Grigorian). The other 50% are from her mother, who is from Lituania, Irena Milkevičiūtė ! ❤

All this nit-picking about Asmik reminds me of online comments I've read about Joyce DiDonato. You either like her or you don't. I like Asmik. She'll get better with time - she's young. I recommend that all of you who don't like her listen to someone else.
She is 39 years old... my question is when is she going to get better when she turns 80? I understand you like it but those who dislike her have also the right to express their opinions. I'm not by any means a vocalist expert but I can see why people don't like her. But putting together Joyce Didonato and her in the same sentence requires some courage. She is way out of Joyce's league in light-years.

I think people are being cruel to her. I think if you can't say something kind you shouldn't say anything but I do not adhere to that principles myself all the time. You cant compare a dramatic soprano with the ability to sing salome, to a mezzo soprano who sings baroque repertoire preferably. So the repertoire is light years different distance. But the vocal ability regarding to great operatic singing is on the side of grigorian. Im sorry its true ;)

Raisa, who created the role of Turandot, had a voice as large as Ponselle's, although not as well equalized from her lowest to highest tones. But as the legendary Ukranian basso and lieder singer Alexander Kipnis, who sang with Raisa and heard Ponselle's Norma in 1929, said of the two Rosas, their Normas were equally great vocally and dramatically and were superior to any of their successors in his lifetime.
It's not a voice for belcanto; the fioritura parts are at the limit of her abilities. Other than that, it's a nice attempt; she does her best and the diction is very good. She's an interesting artist, even if the voice lacks the distinctiveness.
I absolutely agree. On the one hand I would be happy to hear such a Norma live, but I would never buy it on CD and I also believe that Grigorian is someone for the stage anyway and less for the recording, like e.g. Scotto, Zampieri or Dame Gwyneth.
I feel like she couldn’t wait to finish this aria lol. She knows hers is not the right voice for bel canto with lots of coloratura. Surprising that she’d sing this. She did try.

Regardless of whether this is to anyone's personal taste or not she simply cannot sing this aria correctly, it is beyond her technical limitations. Period.
But Belcanto is supposed to be good for the voice! Maybe the problem for some singers is they didn't spend enough time learning the coloraturas involved in this aria, and so many ppl have heard Caballe, Sutherland and biggest of them all Callas

Just horrible - mess instead of good dynamics and fioritura, no true legato, problematic emission, unpleasant, wobbly sound, I hope she will never sing Norma or any other Bel Canto piece on stage.
Ужасные колоратуры. Нет подвижности в голосе, значит нет Бельканто. Современный вокал без окраски тембровой (((. Да , попадает по нотам. Бельканто - это не её репертуар.
@@siegfriedkulina8240 технику можно улучшить если певица понимает смысл пения. Голос без подвижности и цвета -это минус в её технике. Сейчас пандемия, есть время улучшить технику и обогатить тембр. Нужно выбрать хорошего педагога и позаниматься 3/4 месяца старой вокальной школой, а не новой бесцветкой. Имя у неё есть, осталось добавить бОльшего качества.
Вы переслушали Каллас, простите, пожалуйста;)) Асмик очень достойно спела эту Арию, настолько правильно и кристально чисто вокально, не бравируя и не "копируя", что ценно само по себе. Поверьте, те, у кого голос или исполнение похожи на Каллас несчастны, так как их-то с ней и сравнивают постоянно, а это соперничество лишь "шаг в пропасть" для любогою даже очень хорошего певца. Я эту певицу первый раз увидела в партии Виолетты на видео в ютьюбе и как раз наоборот отметила ее в хорошем смысле "похожесть" на Каллас и внешне и актерски, и тонкость в исполнении вокально. И голос у нее тоже некоторыми красками пронзительности и воздушности похож именно на эту великую певицу, то, что вы ее с ней сравнили говорит только в ее пользу! Только не обижайтесь, пожалуйста. Я в восхищении от этой певицы была еще до того, как она стала сейчас настолько известна. Постоянно ее слушала и настраивалась по ее безупречному вокальному звучанию. А это о многом говорит, поверьте, я знаю о чем говорю!)
Почему же никто? Кабалье пела божественно, неземным, ангельским голосом. У Асмик другая Норма, пожалуй ближе к Каллас, не столько жрица, сколько исстрадавшаяся женщина.

She's a wonderful artist in the roles she regularly sings, but she doesn't have the bel canto experience to sing this comfortably.
