Another hack I've adopted.... I ordered pillow inserts from Amazon and pillow covers for everyday and for Christmas. This way I'm not struggling to store pillows, just wash and store the pillow covers!!
My neighbors always "gift bag" the ingredients for simmer pots...same as yours but they pack up a whole orange, rosemary sprig, whole cloves, cinnamon stick, and a vanilla bean. They hand them out to all neighbors, and it's my favorite gift of the season. I use a small saucepan (some prefer small crock pot), simmer all day, cool off in the evening, put in fridge and reuse it several times. By just adding more water and refrigerating, you can keep these going for a while and really get your money's worth.
Sounds lovely but sounds a bit of a waste of gas to have it simmering all day. I wonder if there is a similar way to do it without having gas on all day?
Two years ago, I made fabric gift bags out of Christmas flannel, a different pattern for each person, for our family of five. Everyone has 5 bags with 4 being a little smaller than a pillow case and one being extra large, so five gifts a year per person. Even if the gift item is really small, I just roll it and tie each end like a candy. I wish I had done this when my kids were younger because it works great!!!
I did this a few years ago and I'll even use them as gifts for friends. I tell them if they like the wrap they can keep it, but if they don't just give it back to me sometime. I'm about 50/50 with getting them back. And the people who keep them actually re-use them, so that's a little less wrapping paper waste all around!
Great ideas! Fun fact we did the paper stars/flowers instead of flowers at our wedding. We hung them on the ends of the pews! Cost almost nothing and even now 10 years later we use them as Christmas decor!
I looove the one wreath idea!! I hadn’t thought of that! I make new wreaths often and give my mom the old ones 😂 It makes more sense to just use one and keep swapping! -Madison
Love some of these. I've had the same front door wreath for almost 20 years, and just swap the ribbon and picks seasonally. Every autumn, I cut the wild vines on my property to make wreaths for others.
I love dried oranges for Christmas decor, this year I did them in my air fryer and it worked better than the oven, anywhere from 3-5 hrs to get them dry on the dehydrate setting, and there's constant air movement so you don't have to flip them as much. Also, if you live near a Hobby Lobby, sometimes you can find great deals on Christmas decor when everything is on sale, I think right now it's all 60% off.
A couple of years ago I started sewing my own gift bags, best thing ever! Never have to worry about the huge waste and mess of wrapping paper and tape ever again!
I've been doing craft paper wrapping for years. It's such a game changer and I love the simplicity of it. Sometimes I'll do white paper to switch it up. Less clutter with a bunch of different designs to store.
I do a simmer pot in a slow cooker. I usually use apple peels and cores. I throw them into a bag and then freeze them. When I pull them out I add a few cinnamon sticks and I can leave it on for a day or two.
We love using our Dollar Tree bags year after year. It's so easy to just collect them after opening presents Christmas morning, fold them & store them right along with our decorations. They last a surprisingly long time! I love the look of the craft paper & ribbon in this video! I think this would be perfect for gifts we give to teachers, neighbors & other people outside of our immediate family!!! Thank you so much for these tips! Can't wait to check out Walmart garlands & make a spice pot instead of spending on new candles☃️🎄⚜️
I love all your hacks! As a minimalist I've been doing the "less is more" decorating for a few years now and i really find i like it better. I love the idea of the dried orange slices. That garland was so beautiful.
Using command hooks on the backs of doors and cabinets and then using fishing line to hang wreaths is BRILLIANT!! And as for wrapping paper, great tip from my mom as I was growing up- use Reynolds Wrap (foil) - it’s shiny, easy to use, and no need for tape! She’s wrapped with this whenever we ran out of wrapping paper, and I’ve borrowed this idea for years - just add a bow or some twine and some greens from a tree or shrub outside and Voila- looks so beautiful 🤩
Some practical hacks to prepare for the inflation and depression coming after the Christmas: Limit unnecessary spending, Pay attention to your health, Invest and spread your assets and while at it, always make correct inquiries so you don't throw your money in the wind or better still, get the services of an expert (that way, you give little room for error). Been using these for 2 years now and finally made up to a million. I may be prepared, are you? or you want to completely empty your reserves this Christmas?
Amazing approach though a bit extreme... You mentioned getting assets and using pros, if its not a problem. do you mind telling which asset type, if you used one or recommending a good one? Been thinking about doing something lately... I look forward to you replying...

Love it!!!!! I find a lot of people that I have fallowed for years are pairing back. Like we are all linked this year. I was very sick from post Covid for the last year and a half. I had one poinsettia instead of a tree and felt free!!! I decided to pair back and declutter as I’m bringing stuff out. I started over the summer very slowly. It’s so cool to see other people doing the same thing!!!
I use fresh greenery from my garden - and give some to many friends. Wrap bunches with strings of tiny lights and hang them up. I also make popcorn and cranberry garlands for round the fireplace. Now, seeing you use Kraft paper, I make potato cut out stamps for each persons gifts! No need to waste money!
Thank you for sharing these awesome tips, I'm only a couple of minutes in, and I'm so excited!! A few years back I started going to little pop up Christmas tree "shops", whichever one benefits a local charity or organization, and seeing if they have any scraps or usually pieces people don't want. A lot of places will either give them to you or they'll be cheap like a buck or two a piece! I love using those pieces to make wreaths, to make garland look fuller and/or more "expensive", or my favorite way is to wrap a present in brown mailing/butcher paper (usually cheaper, better quality, and you get more bang for your buck), tie some twine or pretty ribbon around it, pop on some faux holly berries from Dollar Tree, and then add a piece of the greeny. Ahhh!! It's so beautiful, elegant and sooooo affordable!! Absolutely love that!!! Also, in Dollar Tree plus section this year, they have some pretty bows like the second one you showed us in the beginning of the video for only three bucks girl!! I also love grabbing some of the large fabric gift bags from Dollar Tree and making pillows and/or pillow covers from them!! I may have to edit my comment after I finish watching video!!! 😂🤦🏼♀️❤️💚
We love doing Christmas sacks! Me and my husband have matching sacks and stockings. You can buy them on Amazon and get them embroidered, easy organization for when you have more than one kid. The family I used to nanny for has 15 kids and now one grandson and each person has their own Santa’s sack!
As a minimalist, I 100% love swappable decor. I have generic looking baskets around the house that I dress up and put a Santa hat on my Halloween skeleton outside.

Some thing that has kept me from buying new Christmas decorations is putting them in different places in my house each year. That way I don’t get bored with what I have. I also have always taken down pictures I have hung up year round and then I just hang whatever Christmas decoration I have on the hook that’s already there. I’ve also adopted the same organizing technique that I normally use in my home: If I don’t love it or I don’t know why I have it I’m just getting rid of it.
instead of wrapping paper, we bought winter-themed fabric (post holiday & it was sooo inexpensive) and use it yearly i also have special pillowcase for weirdly shaped gifts
Great ideas as usual. My idea for myself is not giving gifts and telling others NOT to give me gifts. Not just a money saver but a time saver. And less clutter because lets face it...we get stuff we dont need or want and feel guilt. Quite honestly opening gifts has just made me sad for that reason. Don't be afraid to talk with family and friends about this if you are thinking about this.
I tried a budget hack for wall decor a couple years ago I hung gift bags as Christmas pictures in my living room and fell in love with them. I got most of mine at Dollar General but if I see one anywhere I just swap it to upgrade. I used the smaller clear command hooks to hang them. So cute. I’m using your garland and wreath ideas this year thank you!
I took some old Christmas table cloths that didn't fit my table any more (because #6kids!) & made my own drawstring bags. Anything can be wrapped in them & I can store them easily in a repurposed zippered bedding bag. A great hack to save money & it still looks classic under my tree with those great textures.
About the simmer pot, throw an apple or pears into it to blanch, it's super delicious! Also the IKEA stars are traditionally hung in the window with a lamp inside. They're all over Sweden in every window during winter time and it's the most beautiful thing when you're taking a walk in the evening when it's dark and see all the lit up stars and lights everywhere 🤩😍
I know a family who went to the local newspaper printers and got the end of a newsprint spool for wrapping paper. IIRC, it was free or almost free, and lasted them years. They went that route for sustainability reasons.
