    Hi Jason, here in France I use it effectively against ticks. On flies it limits a little but it is not as effective as on ticks. Your chain is nice, thank you.

      So it works effectively on flies or not?

    • @anthonyborn8208
      @anthonyborn8208 4 місяці тому

      @@TA.387 I haven't done any in-depth studies on this, but it seems to reduce them. Some smaller flies, often on the horns and eyes, don't seem to be affected. Probably because sweating doesn't work on these areas.

    Nifty, the first Time I've heard of it. Might be a use for the green leaves of garlic (leeks?). Dried and added at a higher rate.

    So did you put both 1-pound bags in or just one? 1lb per 50lb of mineral, or 2lbs? At 1:22, you said you bought "a couple packs" of the garlic, and you hold up a bag that's already opened. At 1:37 you say you've already mixed some in. You then empty the already-open bag in. So it's not clear to me whether you put both "couple packs" in or just one.
    Thanks for the video - I"m eager to hear how it went.

    Use granulated garlic instead of garlic powder. It is heavier and won't blow away.

    Jason Redmond mix maybe more consistent because they probably add a bonding agents and won’t be so dusty. Next time use Redmond we can see the difference when you open a bag.

      Makes since! We plan to switch to the Redmond mixture once we run out of the regular mineral salt we are stocked up on.

    • @GrazingAcresFarm
      @GrazingAcresFarm  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Russ, No we are no longer experimenting with the garlic. I tired it for a couple months and never seen much difference. It also got tricky finding garlic powder in bulk. Have your tried it and what were your results?

    • @RussWilson
      @RussWilson 2 роки тому

      @@GrazingAcresFarm We have not tried garlic powder. In my research on garlic found a paper that went in to say it reduces insect larvae in the manure by 50 percent. I try to get the manure patties to recycle in as little as 7-14 days. Most of the recycling comes from insect activity. So that isn't an opinion on my farm. I have seen a lot of folks try it and then stop using the garlic. another of my limiting factors is it is just another input. I mean no disrespect to the folks using it with success.

    How would garlic in the diet effect the taste of a cow's milk?

    • @GrazingAcresFarm
      @GrazingAcresFarm  4 роки тому

      I have no idea. I was told by a few people that mix their own that they use 1 pound garlic to 50 pounds of salt and they claim it's effective. I'd guess they wouldn't being doing it still if there were issue in garlic taste. I am sure no one really wants garlic beef or milk.

      www.dairyreporter.com/Article/2020/01/06/Garlic-in-cow-feed-keeps-gases-down-and-milk-yields-up
      Apparently no effect on taste, but many benefits. I have to think at certain concentrations the garlic would effect taste. But given how much grass a cow eats, the amount of garlic they take in through the minerals would be minimal.

    Good video Jason, thanks for sharing really appreciate it hopefully it works out good for you. I take it that you do silage bales, how does your animals do on that stuff, do they get too lose or you feed dry hay with the silage bales.? Just curious, inerways good video.

    • @GrazingAcresFarm

      The beef cows love the wet hay. This is alfalfa too. We figured it would give them the runs so we also bought some dry bale to offer but really it's surprised me how many wet bales they can eat before I see any lose stools. I still offer a dry alfalfa bale every few days.

      Grazing Acres Farm I was just curious cuz I know some farmers feed wet and dry hay at the same time. which I guess it depends on how many animals you have, but inerways thanks for replying back.

      It's not too often beef farmers fed wet hay usually it's dairy farmers but we find it keeps the cows looking good all winter and the calves too.

    I would want to know where the Garlic came from. I've heard Chinese Garlic is grown in Cess Pools and then bleached with Chemicals to make it white. If Garlic works I would want to make sure the Garlic was grown in the U.S.

    If you are selling cattle for sides of beef the meat and hamburger will definitely have a garlic smell to it. How do I know? I've had a meat packing plant and in 43 years of butchering you can always tell when cattle have been eating the wild garlic in their pasture. It's a great idea that I'm sure works but as is with a lot of things there's always a drawback isn't there? LOL
