while Troy's "death march for Ellie" theory is really interesting, there's direct and clear evidence in the game that Ellie didn't know she was going to die. After the giraffe scene she says, "Once we're done we can go wherever you want" (presumably back to Tommy's anyway). She one hundred percent did not know it was going to happen--something I discovered recently is that if you hang around long enough in the University there is some rare dialogue [!!] where Ellie actually theorizes that they're going to draw blood to get the cure and Joel agrees.
You never know, she might have been saying what she thought Joel wanted to hear. She says knows that he sees her as a daughter before the university scene. lol.
@@bsgrjsbrsqdbarj3900 Here is that University dialogue: ua-cam.com/video/B3VAX39warE/v-deo.html Ellie: How will they do it? Joel: Do what? Ellie: Get the cure from me? You think it will hurt? Joel: No, no. They'll probably just draw some blood - it don't hurt Ellie: I've gotten shots before. They vaccinated at school. It sucked.
princessthyemis yeah when Troy said that I instantly thought of that dialogue. I’ve only been able to get it to trigger once, I wonder why it’s so uncommon because it’s a really important convo
The music composer Gustavo Santaolalla was as irreplaceable as Troy and Ashley for this game. I applaud both Gustavo himself and Naughty Dog that chose Gustavo from millions of composers out there. Edit : Fixed the typo of his name. Thanks.
I mean Merle played her role so perfectly, fit the world so well. Shame her role was so small considering her talent. But the jusic made by the Gustavo is just so fitt8ng and beautiful. Cant wait for part 2
"Vanishing Grace" the music played in the beautiful giraffe scene is my favourite, always gives me a lump in my throat thinking about what Ellie went through alone while Joel was injured, in the Winter chapters and in Left Behind. Such a wonderful game, love it so much, cannot wait to be with Ellie and Joel again in Part II!
@@canniloni She did so many times but I understand it's from a place of sharp observation and logic! Like when Troy said he cleared a section with just stealth yet kept dying while bashing the clickers and she said so why bother with the clickers and just do stealth like he did. And asking if listening mode has how many number of uses and Troy says it's unlimited. Then she said so why not use it all the time? Haha
Can we appreciate how much Nolan pays attention to detail and navigation? He remembered Ethan saying top floor and he recognized where the room Joel wakes up in even though it all happens in a cutscene and he's off the stick. If he was playing through the entire game I think he'd be really good at this point.
Someone said earlier he has a better head for games and navigation than Troy. He may not understand all the button layouts but when he is engaged he can carry the narrative much better
@@YourFriendDevin They talk about it in this episode. Interestingly though, I actually did know him name was Ethan before watching this because I had just browsed the Last of Us wiki a couple days beforehand haha
Totally, and the reason for Nolan not getting the button layouts was that Troy handed him the controller in the hardest parts. I’m actually surprised Troy even managed to finish this in 16 vids because he’s got to be one of the worst I’ve ever seen playing a stealth game
I really wanna know about all their thoughts on their own characters, what they think their characters' intentions and motivations are and how they would react if so and so happens, but it's interrupted by the bad gameplay, lots of repeated stages and Troy's speeches haha.
She doesn't know it means death. Hence at the end of the Giraffe scene when she says "it all can't be for nothing," once you start walking down those stairs she says, "Look, when we are done with all this, we can go wherever you want." Completely, 100%, intending to go on living with him.
I personally believe Ellie at least suspects she may die for the cure. That’s why I agree with Marlene when she tells Joel “this is what she’d want”. Ellie suffers from a massive case of survivor’s guilt. So many people she cared about died & there are people that died specifically trying to get Ellie to the Fireflies. She feels guilt for that, too. Those people died for a cause that Ellie believes in, & when Joel took that choice away from her, he also took away her purpose. That’s why her & Joel have a very rocky relationship in part 2.
Exactly and in the university there is a small convo Joel and Ellie have where Ellie asks Joel how they will get the cure from her and Joel says I dunno probably just draw some blood that’s all also confirming she didn’t know. I’m hope they don’t say that Ellie knew she was going to die in part 2 because that would kinda be a plot hole
I was about to write that. Ellie totally doesn't know that she has to die for the cure. There's not a single hint in the whole game. But she definitely wanted to make a difference and Joel took that away from her.
Nolan: Did he save her for him... or for her? Troy: What a great question. Nolan North / Nathan Drake: I have them every now and then. Gotta love that witty comeback haha
dillon frank I really wish they talk about that in the next episode, I wanna know if it was in the script that he should touch the watch (we all know why) or it was just something the actor did involuntarily...
@@IV-A she never knew that she could've been killed by the Fireflies. All she knew was that they were going to study her immunity, she was unconscious from the time she nearly drowned all the way up to the time she awoke in the car.
He is the worst player I have ever seen. It's baffling how much he laughed at Nolan at the start of the Uncharted LP and now Nolan has far surpassed him.
People in the comment section of the last episode : ‘Why don’t we get Ashley just for a bit longer! You don’t understand us!’ Troy : ‘We got the whole another episode just for Ashley even after the ending.’ You guys (Troy, Nolan and all the staffs) are amazing!
Don't we find audio tapes that tell us that researches have found and investigated other immune people like Ellie but that they weren't able to create a vaccine? From this perspective, who would sacrifice their daughter for something that is not even sure? And even if they were able to manufacture some kind of cure or vaccine, without the proper means of logistics etc. how would they want to spread it on such a massive scale? I would have made the same call as Joel.
@@MrXantrias These audio recordings were only in the PS3 edition of the game and were later removed in a patch to create the sense that Ellie really was the only person who had the fungus, this allowed the whole game to make a bit more sense really in terms of transporting Ellie for the cure.
I like to think that it was without her consent and she is torn between believing Joel and not. The part of her that believes him probably feels so hopeless now because that means it was all for nothing. The part that doesn't believe him would be more complex. She would feel betrayed he lied and took away meaning to her life and all she has done and been through, but now she actually knows that he cares about her more than the rest of the world. Basically, she doesn't know if Joel lied the same way we, the players, don't know if she gave her consent. However, I do think if she was asked, she would have gone through with it but there is no way she would do it without talking to Joel first. And now that I type that out, I'm thinking maybe she wouldn't have talked to him because she would know he wouldn't let that happen...hmmm. She would have at least left a note for him and that note doesn't exist to my knowledge. So yes, I do believe it was without her consent. TLDR 😆
3 Things: 1. Please have Ashley Johnson play through the Left Behind DLC before part 2 comes out. 2. Troy, unlike Uncharted you can't move when shot, so you can't run into gun fire. 3. You think u guys could have a talking episode like with Amy henig but with Neil? -(also why does Troy constantly accidently melee instead of pushing triangle? Lol...😅😅)
@Billy Nobody yeah I guess it does, I've just never used twitch before but I just looked it it up before and saw that the videos are archived. So hopefully they play the whole thing
Would be surprised if they got Neil, even if it was to promote TLOU story. At this time, with another release date delay, Naughty Dog is absolutely knee deep - crunching to get TLOU2 completed.
I see it this way: Marlene doesn't know what Ellie wants. She knows Ellie wants to find a cure, but the truth is Ellie didn't give the Fireflies her consent to be killed. When they found her, she was passed out. They decided to operate without getting her permission, whether it's what she wanted or not. Joel did make a selfish decision in saving Ellie, but it was a decision made out of love. The Fireflies didn't care if they had to kill a young girl, all they cared about was the cure. But she clearly didn't think she was gonna die. She promised Joel they'd be going back to Jackson after the procedure. She didn't know she was going to die. But even if she did, they should've woken her up, to let her give her consent.
@David L lol, no. Stealth never really works for me in this game with human enemies. Their line of sight is too unpredictable so u might spend 5 minutes trying to be stealthy and then get spotted out of nowhere by one guy through no fault of your own. It's just way too time consuming and on normal difficulty u can easily kill everything in sight if you're skilled. That's one thing i regret is not choosing a harder difficulty, u get way too much ammo and resources on normal. But like i said, human enemies don't really work well in stealth mode in this game.
Wow Merle reading Marlene's journal was just amazing. How she was able to realize the correct emotions and tone as she's reading this, likely for the first time. Incredible actor and honestly did not see it coming. Underrated part of this episode. And somehow she barely made any mistakes in the actual reading/saying it out loud on the fly.
@@lepari9986 Sure I can. You try reading something new, out loud, in front of others, while simultaneously deducing context and translating that into the appropriate emotions, without slipping up. It's a lot harder than it sounds.
@@josonic Yeah I've done it, it's not that hard. And especially for an experienced professional actress/voice actor. But as I said, loved that part anyway, added value to that journal.
Me too, I was getting so excited. I was waiting to hear him say Neil Druckman and when he said Ashley, I literally yelled “NOOOO” lol but then was happy bc I love Ashley as well lol 😂
Hats off to all of you (Troy, Nolan, all the cast members and all the Retro Replay staffs) for arranging all this and making this series come true! This series is something we all wanted to see for the last 6.5 years since TLOU was released, but we thought it’s too difficult to arrange everyone’s schedules and what not. I’ll def recommend this series to anyone who is interested in TLOU2, but hesitant because they haven’t played TLOU1.
This could not have ended up being a more perfect playthrough. You guys brought in all the guests we hoped for, tackled many of the conversations us fans have spoken about. You asked the tough exestential, moral and intense questions we all may and may not have thought to ourselves through our own journeys and all the while entertaining everyone with the light hearted - comedic commentary on what went on behind the scenes as well as the insight into some of the most memorable cutscenes, cutscenes which made Troy give us the classic gem "This is one of my favourite scenes" quote or the occasional "This is my favourite scene". Thank you to all the folks within the RR team for making this one of the best and most consistant place for my kind of entertainment. I can't wait for next weeks ep to tie everything up.
Gabriel Cwern and then he changed his game plan and didn’t throw the nail Bomb even though nothing changed? Like he didn’t want to show that he made a mistake or anything lol
Ellie never knew she had to die to give the world a cure. But if she was given the decision, she would've done it in a heartbeat. Although, you never know, maybe having a relationship with Joel would've given her second thoughts. Great story, can wait for part 2, take all the time you need ND.
You’re potentially playing the villain, instead of curing the world you choose to save this girl that he grew to be dependent for your own selfish needs. And you can’t blame him, he couldn’t handle losing another daughter. That’s what I love about this game, you can interpret it in so many ways! To answer Nolan’s questions, he definitely saved Ellie for him.
Also when Tommy said what Joel brought him through gave him nightmares and it was hinted that Joel did some unethical things made this choice seem in alignment with his character in how he is somewhat of a villain in his fight to survive and keeping Ellie for himself.
Why Joel made the decision he did: A Vaccine would not be as useful in this world as one would think (The infected would still exist and even though people wouldn't become infected, they can still be torn apart and EATEN by the infected.) For every Henry, Sam and Tommy there are People like Tess and Joel who are "shitty people" - remember, even before Sarah died and he had 20 years of the world crumbling around him - HE TOLD TOMMY TO KEEP DRIVING AND THEY HAD A KID WITH THEM!!! THAT was the type of person Joel was, EVEN BEFORE HE LOST SARAH!!! People like the hunters who kill the weak People like David who eat other people People like FEDRA, who kill Fireflies People like the Fireflies, who kill FEDRA soldiers cause to them it is death to those who don't agree. And their goal is a Federal Government. After all, it WAS the Regular Government that killed Sarah when the world was still functioning. WHY would Joel want a world like that back - IT killed Sarah. There had not been any breaks in the supply chain or government decision making yet. The military had not taken over. The elected officials were in power on Outbreak Day and Sarah died from a decision made by the Government. WHY would Joel care if the government like that came back??? If there WAS a cure, there would not be a fast production and distribution in the current world. What little they could make would be fought over. Fireflies would tell FEDRA to disband FEDRA would want to stay in power BOTH would probably try to limit the hunters and cannibals as they would view them as criminal and not hunt them down to cure them right away The smugglers would be trying to sell them on the Black Market. The Zone Citizens would be attended to first and leave the settlers like Tommy/Maria in the cold. Does FEDRA, Fireflies, or any group know where all those good safe settlements are? Let alone are willing to risk their lives by hauling the vaccine cargo to distribute the vaccine to them? SPEC: And with the religious Cult, I'm sure they would want to destroy it. Only the faithful deserve salvation; and that is through their God and not a vaccine that has no ability to "pick and choose the righteous" like "God's Will" can.
Can I use your comment in spoiler arguments? This is a good point that is worth mentioning and a good example that the spoilers are NOT that unexpected nor are they changing the characters.

18:45 ‘It’s like she’s here!’ That’s the point of this series. I loved when Nolan said creepy things to Ashley in his David voice. I wish they asked all the guests to say something in their character voice on each episode.
Ouroboros Studios Chief J is right though. OP was being sarcastic at something they thought was obvious. It WAS obvious, but it was a joke. OP missed it entirely.
Even just the little things Troy does in a scene are great. Like at the end when he talks about how he has struggled for a long time with surviving, and right as he cuts himself off from saying something else he rubs the watch on his hand. One of the reasons i love The Last Of Us and its been such a hit is its subtlety. Too often in movies they hit you over the head with "hey remember this" and "remember when" and "don't you get it now??". The Last Of Us just lets the scene breath and the moments just happen, its organic. So when we realize ourselves what the characters are thinking of it impacts us so much more. The writers and actors dont tell us what to feel, they show us and guide us into it.
What a great comment . You my friend should get more likes , in order to get you liked by retro replay . I myself , an independent and barely starting writer , have explained why this game is better than 3/4 movies from the last 6 years
@@dylana.9057 ya and the cuts after emotional moment's, the game does not hold your hand through the processing of that. You don't get to watch that characters come to terms with what happened. It's just cut to Black and then some slow moments to give the player time to internally work through what happened themselves. Alone.
@@__Andrew So cool retro replay liked your comment !!!! So happy for you . But yeah I absolutely agree 💯 👍 . It doesn't feel tropy and overly done but very natural even cruel but ultimately memorable
I love how absorbed into the story Nolan is; when Joel gets shoved down by the soldier and Nolan was like "Hey who the hell is this?!" He sounded genuinely upset like he was ready to belt the dude
What a great journey that we had. I cannot find words to express the feeling which this game gives me every time. Ive been through this game several, tons of times but this.. this was so special for me, so special that I got to go through it with people who put their hearts into it. I enjoyed every minute even while yelling at Troy to pick up the items or to use the pills finally. I enjoyed crying and sharing feeling with you people. I loved how Nolan was so into everything and how he enjoyed it. Thank you so much for this journey Naughty Dog, the cast, Neil and finally Retro Replay. It was such a blast. Love xx
John Wick ahahahah tell me if I’m wrkng but I guess Nolan used it like 2 episodes ago. Fun fact: Troy only used pills twice, at the very begining and the end hahah
Oh my, when Merle started to read the dialog for Marlene's journal I got goosebumps. Here voice sounds like she has the weight of the world on her and is done perfectly. I agree with Troy that this was an amazing cast that worked on this game. Thy delivered such a heart wrenching, beautiful story. Cannot wait to see what amazing work is done on part 2.
@John Wick i typed in "last of us pt. 2 release date." And "delayed" on google..and youtube..didn't see anything. Saw May. But not later. Maybe I'll check again
@John Wick was going to say xD checked google, UA-cam and Twitter. I thought it'd be on one of those. Generally news spreads fast on those 3 between fans and news sources xD lol. I would say any delay would be for good reason..even if i want it now
Troy: How do two people navigate a world together -- when they're thrown together -- Nolan: Go to the right.. to the right... you went left last time. Troy: -- and they have to work together in order to survive? Me: Yes.
The singing outtake is fun, but why in the blue blazes couldn't you have waited until *after* those scenes played out? The scene was moved, sure, to later in the parking lot, but it wasn't removed. True to form, spoiling all the best parts of the game, right to the end. Poor Nolan. *EDIT:* ...and the saddest part is seeing him all expectant and curious in the elevator ("what's going to happen?"), when he's already seen what's going to happen. What a kick in the nuts.
Merle is the most beautiful voice actor ever ... And her voice is super fit for this role. I have no idea what valve was thinking not bringing her back for half life alyx
"What if Ellie knew this was her death march". MIND. BLOWN. I've played this game so many times and seen every analysis out there, and still there is meaning to be found
And we come to end of the playthrough, with Merele being a carry over, nice! We now truly see what Joel is capable of, not accepting another loss. I beat this game at 2 am several years ago now, already saw a playthrough beforehand, yet still hits had today. Now we await Ashley's return, and maybe in the future, Neil Druckmann and his beautiful hair and beard.
"How did I miss that" Well Troy was rushing to get to storybeats so a lot of things weren't found, read or triggered. But it's alright. It's not that big of a deal in the end :D
The guests are on a timer, I noticed that almost everytime he was stealthing he was going as fast as he could, and checking his watch as he did so. lol.
Merle is a fucking goddess. I love the reading she did and the little shade she threw at troy lmao. My favorite? "Wait how did he see you? Was it because of your BIG flashlight?" I can't. Love you guys so much.
While I agree with most of Troy's analysis of the ending, I don't think she necessarily knew she was gonna die, but rather thought it was a possibility. I think when she is sulking at the beginning of the chapter, it's her coming to grips with the idea that she and Joel may have to say goodbye. Now whether that's her death, or simply her being delivered as the whole game implys is entirely up to interpretation, but I definitely think Ellie knew that she may have to sacrifice herself for the cure... And you can be damn sure she would have. When she says "It can't be for nothing" she's not just talking about her and Joel's journey, but also her life begore with Riley. Ellie absolutely would have given her life if it meant that nobody ever ended up like Riley ever again. Now on the moral dilemma question is certainly a fascinating one. I think most people would say that Joel definitely was selfish in his decision as Ellie never got a say in her own fate. I think Joel knew Marlene was right and that Ellie would want that, but he didn't care, he was nit about to lose another daughter. I'm sure peeling the layers of selfishness back would also reveal a Joel that truly believes that it isn't fair to have her die for a world that probably isn't even worth saving. Joel's seen a lot more of the world than Ellie so I like to interpret it in this way. As the player, you actually can find recording and documents that detail previous experiments the fireflies had done on others thought to be "immune" and how they were unsuccessful. So I, personally, agree with Joel's decision because I didn't want Ellie to die, especially if it's not even a sure thing. Why would I sacrifice the only thing I care about in this world just for a maybe? Now the true Brilliance, the final scene. This scene is by far one of the best endings ever in pretty much anything. It tells you absolutely everything without telling you anything. It's all in Ellie's face. She knows Joel is lying, and I like to interpret the ending as her both being disappointed and accepting at the same time. Disappointed that she missed her turn, her chance to change the world because of Joel's selfishness, but accepting that Joel cares enough for her to save her from her fate. I think her question at the end is confirming Joel's feelings for her so she can accept the lie. I think Ellie was ready to die before she met Joel and I think in the beginning of the final chapter she is wrestling with her her feeling for Joel and her obligation to Riley... Joel just made her choice for her. She chooses to accept his feelings and moves forward. It's absolutely fucking brilliant! This game transcends the medium imo and becomes an experience like no other. I remember thinking that we never need a sequel to this game, but now that it's almost here I am starting to see how the repercussions of Joel's choices in this game will affect Ellies's character arc in the next one. We as the player, will literally be reeping what we sow in the first game as we continue the TLoU story with Ellie.
I only disagree with one part, I dont think Joel thougth that the fireflies would fail at getting a vaccine as you said. You said that Ellie was going to be sacrifice for a maybe, but Joel took the choice of saving Ellie before knowing the might fail. And even with that, Joel killed innocents before, he said that when he refuse to anwser Ellies question about whether he had been a hunter before and had killed innocents to survive. What Joel did was selfish, he didnt save her, that is a lie he tells to himself. And the fact of the vaccine being a maybe its an excuse for that, that its not pretty clear. I dont think Joel save Ellie because she was being sacrifice for a maybe, he just do it because he didnt want to loose her
@@ChampBoa OK, since I have already posted a review for friends on Facebook I'll go ahead and paste that here for you. "Just finished a Suvivor+ run to get the platinum and The Last of Us 2 still continues to impress. The intricacy of the narrative makes another go around very rewarding when you already know how the events will play out. So I guess, now is as good a time as any for a summation of my thoughts. Before I jump into the narrative, I want to quickly say the gameplay is an improvement on the first game in every conceivable way. Ellie is nimble and can dip, duck, and dodge around enemies with relative ease. The crafting offers more versatility than ever before and the upgrades have been retrofitted with more worthwhile improvements that give you more customization on how you like to play. The AI will track, hunt, and pull you out from underneath cover. When killed the AI's companions will shout the victim's name out and scream obscenities adding a smaller, yet welcome new layer to encounters. The environments are much more expansive and free-form adding new approaches to combat. Ellie can now climb and jump as well which enhances the aforementioned combat, but also expands traversal. Everything about the gameplay of TLoU2 far exceeds the first game, as it should. Now the narrative... TLoU pushed the medium by bringing both Cinematic story-telling and gameplay seamlessly together previously not seen in video games. TLoU2 continues this spectacularly. The narrative on its own is pretty much what you've come to expect from Naughty Dog. Compelling characters, expertly crafted worlds, and death defying encounters. However, what you wouldn't expect is the intrapersonal relationships that challenge you, the player, to examine the importance of perspective. The result is a narrative experience that can only be as impactful as it is because you HAVE to play through it. There is no restraint, there is no concession, and there is no choice. The Last of Us 2 isn't black and white, hero and villain, it's a tale of the futility of revenge and the importance of perspective when forming empathy for a character. Everyone in this world is a monster to the victims left behind. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to talk about all the exceptional things this game does without outright spoiling. I hope I was able to get a little of my thoughts across, albeit vague, because it really cannot be overstated just how much this game defines "Masterpiece". "It is only through fear that we may find true strength" 10/10... Obviously." If you would like me to elaborate and go into more detail and spoilers id be happy to, but I hope you share at least some of my opinions because defending this game can be very exhausting to people that hate it. Cheers :)
I think it was a way to lighten the mood a little. Troy was dropping the gun take after take. He was getting flustered, and it was affecting his performance.
_Why the _*_HELL_*_ would they show the singing version of the operating room scene to Nolan _*_FIRST?!?_* 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
I'm not even surprised anymore because this whole playthrough had some questionable decisions... For example 27:01 dude is being shot at from close by two people and Troy decides to heal up in the middle of a gun fight.............
This is answered. Showing the real one and then the singing version would do one of two things. It would either break the immersion (after getting into the thick of it), or it would get in the way of the important and serious conversations that took place afterwards. The way they did it was the best option.
You guys... that conversation you had at the end when Ellie was walking far from Joel, that was deep. I'm looking forward to next week's episode. The final one.
We all know something and it’s fucking bull crap, man said a tranny with a golf bat kills Joel, don’t even get pissed at me, Iv probably saved you from being hurt seein that in gameplay.
I love that Merle brought up the ethics of Joel’s decisions, as well as their insight into ways of looking at the story that I’d never even considered before. I’ve always personally thought that Joel made it wrong decision and that Ellie was willing to die for the cause (as she knew that she could die at any time) but he did make the human decision. It’s more realistic that it ended the way it did because Joel is at odds with the world and what People did to him, it makes sense that he wasn’t willing to give up Ellie for everyone else’s sake, as well as because you never stop being a dad, even if Joel wanted to forget it. Also please, for the love of everything holy play the DLC!
Ellie was not ready to die. In a lot of interactions and expressions - also a lot was unspoken - she showed that. Joel was thinking about himself, but also for her. He understood what she was doing and that she started acting more grown up and responsible - part of every human experience, but in the end she was just a kid, and no kid should be put in situation where he/she have to decide if he/she is willing to die for a "greater good". It is selfish, but when you are in situation like that you can't be generous. Thats your child we talking about. There is no rationality. You do whatever it takes to keep it safe.
DragoonBG I disagree, Ellie knew the risks, if not the specifics. I reckon she would have made the opposite decision to Joel, especially since she's lost everyone so far to the infection. Though it's open to interpretation as no one actually asked for her opinion or consent :P
She knew risks, but human emotions and feelings are not mathematical, rational or calculated (always). When you are young, you fall more easy to beliefs that might look right at the time but aren't. I am not sure if you are parent or not, but good luck telling your kid it's the right thing to die for a cause or allowed it. Just put yourelf on his shoes. I do think she had a lot of unspoken things that were indicating she was not ready. How can she? I also don't mind different opinions about it, just stating my point. I am curious how will that develop on next game (btw she do have what to look for, that's one of the great aspects at the end and that Joel did make, you just find something and push forward - she got new father as well :P). Take care.

ua-cam.com/video/B3VAX39warE/v-deo.html
Ellie: How will they do it?
Joel: Do what?
Ellie: Get the cure from me? You think it will hurt?
Joel: No, no. They'll probably just draw some blood - it don't hurt
Ellie: I've gotten shots before. They vaccinated at school. It sucked.
In all fairness, she may have changed her mind after the trauma of the Winter chapter.
princessthyemis yeah when Troy said that I instantly thought of that dialogue.
Thanks.
The Last of Us was his first game and The Last of Us 2 is gonna be his first sequel. He clearly loves working on it.
Gustavo *Santaolalla* *
And yes, definitely.
His music is perfect!
I mean Merle played her role so perfectly, fit the world so well. Shame her role was so small considering her talent. But the jusic made by the Gustavo is just so fitt8ng and beautiful. Cant wait for part 2
@@InFlamesor12 - his jusic in Part 2 will be great!

Haha
if Nolan said that he would have just kept silent or dismiss him
Can we appreciate how much Nolan pays attention to detail and navigation?

Very nice!
I was so impressed with that. For someone who didn't know she was going to have to do that...totally awesome
@@William_Sk she didnt want to read it all lol
Nolan’s reactions to the story are what made this series. I loved seeing his expressions to the big twists like Tess, Henry, the cure etc.
She doesn't know it means death. Hence at the end of the Giraffe scene when she says "it all can't be for nothing," once you start walking down those stairs she says, "Look, when we are done with all this, we can go wherever you want." Completely, 100%, intending to go on living with him.
that's a good point but in the very last scene Ellie also says says she's waiting for her turn to die with Riley, Tess, Sam, henry
I thought she knew but said that to make Joel happy
The way he rubbed his watch when he said you keep finding something to fight for 😢❤️
We hope they talk about that in the next episode! It's the most chilling and meaningful moment of the whole game for us.
Yeah it’s a big moment. He plays with that watch several times through the game when he has big moments with ellie
When joel sais "i struggled a long tome with surviving, and you..." its like he was gonna say *whilst rubbing his watch* "saved me". Just significant.
dillon frank I really wish they talk about that in the next episode, I wanna know if it was in the script that he should touch the watch (we all know why) or it was just something the actor did involuntarily...
Man... Merle reading Marlene's Journal... chills. Kinda made me wish the journal entries and letters were all voice acted.
Ellies closing line "ok" says everything.
She knows
I think deep down Ellie does not want to die. She is not sure so she wants to hear Joel lie and wants to believe the lie.
@@IV-A she never knew that she could've been killed by the Fireflies. All she knew was that they were going to study her immunity, she was unconscious from the time she nearly drowned all the way up to the time she awoke in the car.

Maybe Left Behind? I could see it
@John Wick Neil is doing Left Behind streaming with Ashley. See Naughty Dog Twitter account.
The fact that she ask “what am I wearing?” Tells you she did not put the robe willingly, fireflies were planning to kill her without her consent
Daniela Javitt the thing I keep thinking about is Troy knows what happens in the second one, I hope he’s not spoiling anything.
Yo good theory
TLDR 😆
3 Things:
Lol...😅😅)
@Billy Nobody ik, but all the streams uploaded to UA-cam are usually only part of it. Do they do the whole thing on twitch?
@Billy Nobody yeah I guess it does, I've just never used twitch before but I just looked it it up before and saw that the videos are archived. So hopefully they play the whole thing
They already said the last episode would be a talking episode with Ashley and Neil
Would be surprised if they got Neil, even if it was to promote TLOU story. At this time, with another release date delay, Naughty Dog is absolutely knee deep - crunching to get TLOU2 completed.
Yeees Ashley needs to play Left Behind!!!
"This is one of the last scenes that we shot". So refreshing to hear that
Damn T posing to assert dominance after killing everyone
Can we just appreciate that Troy did pretty good in the Firefly Lab.
"Did he save her for her, or for him?"
Nolan has his profound moments
Nolan is such a sweet, funny, humble legend.

I loved that part too but you honestly can't be too amazed that she didn't make mistakes (or barely according to you) when reading a text out loud 😀
@@lepari9986 Sure I can. You try reading something new, out loud, in front of others, while simultaneously deducing context and translating that into the appropriate emotions, without slipping up. It's a lot harder than it sounds.

Ellie never knew she had to die to give the world a cure. But if she was given the decision, she would've done it in a heartbeat. Although, you never know, maybe having a relationship with Joel would've given her second thoughts. Great story, can wait for part 2, take all the time you need ND.
So, what do you think now?
Why Joel made the decision he did:
A Vaccine would not be as useful in this world as one would think (The infected would still exist and even though people wouldn't become infected, they can still be torn apart and EATEN by the infected.)
For every Henry, Sam and Tommy there are
People like Tess and Joel who are "shitty people" - remember, even before Sarah died and he had 20 years of the world crumbling around him - HE TOLD TOMMY TO KEEP DRIVING AND THEY HAD A KID WITH THEM!!! THAT was the type of person Joel was, EVEN BEFORE HE LOST SARAH!!!
People like the hunters who kill the weak
People like David who eat other people
People like FEDRA, who kill Fireflies
People like the Fireflies, who kill FEDRA soldiers cause to them it is death to those who don't agree.
Fireflies would tell FEDRA to disband
FEDRA would want to stay in power
BOTH would probably try to limit the hunters and cannibals as they would view them as criminal and not hunt them down to cure them right away
The smugglers would be trying to sell them on the Black Market.

The singing outtake is fun, but why in the blue blazes couldn't you have waited until *after* those scenes played out? The scene was moved, sure, to later in the parking lot, but it wasn't removed. True to form, spoiling all the best parts of the game, right to the end. Poor Nolan.

Well Troy was rushing to get to storybeats so a lot of things weren't found, read or triggered.
But it's alright. It's not that big of a deal in the end :D

I was not expecting singing.....let alone singing that great👏👏👏👏
While I agree with most of Troy's analysis of the ending, I don't think she necessarily knew she was gonna die, but rather thought it was a possibility.
Tim Macone a perfect spot on analysis. I have never been left so speechless by a games ending like this one
I dont think Joel save Ellie because she was being sacrifice for a maybe, he just do it because he didnt want to loose her
@@sandromercadobustinza6339 oh did I not say he was saving her for selfish reasons as well? At any rate I agree with what you said.
@@infinitybelt What did u think of the second game? I'd love to hear what u thought
"It is only through fear that we may find true strength"
10/10... Obviously."
If you would like me to elaborate and go into more detail and spoilers id be happy to, but I hope you share at least some of my opinions because defending this game can be very exhausting to people that hate it.
Cheers :)
Having Merle read Marlene's journal gave me chills.
“What a great question. I have them every-once and while.” What a legend
During THAT version of THAT scene, it seemed like Merle was doing Les Miserables and Troy was doing Rocky Horror Picture Show.
To me Troy sounded like the Lion in the Wizard of Oz!
Beth Lawson I could see that, but it’s when he sang “your brain is worth more ALIIIIIIIIIIIVE” that I got the Rocky Horror vibes.
Troy is straight up broke by that final scene, love that I got to see that side of him. Amazing series guys. Thank you
24:53 I'm dead 😂 The way he says "nail bomb" crowns it.
It was so great to hear Marlene's journal entry in her voice!!
The whole moral discussion towards the end of the video felt so surreal with the game visual and the soundtrack.
19:56 "are we going to read this whole thing?"........ yes please
47:07 Notice the little detail of Joel rubbing the watch that Sarah gave him when talking to Ellie.
You guys... that conversation you had at the end when Ellie was walking far from Joel, that was deep. I'm looking forward to next week's episode. The final one.
@Clippy shut up it was deap
@Clippy ok boomer
@Clippy ok boomer
@Clippy You are in every comment trying to get attention, get a life you worthless boomer
@Clippy shut up that was Dipp
That deep sigh of relief at 36:32 when Nolan see's Ellie is still alive, haha. You know he's thinking: Oh thank God
Neil Druckman: *tips his hat
Merle: “Nolan, don’t be scared.” Also Merle: *GASP* *GASP* GASP*
her reading the journal was AMAZING!!!
40:15 He knows something... Can't wait for TLOU II.
Of course he does lmao 😂
We all know something and it’s fucking bull crap, man said a tranny with a golf bat kills Joel, don’t even get pissed at me, Iv probably saved you from being hurt seein that in gameplay.
37:47 I love how the watch Sarah gave him is the focal point of this shot
I love that Merle brought up the ethics of Joel’s decisions, as well as their insight into ways of looking at the story that I’d never even considered before.
I’ve always personally thought that Joel made it wrong decision and that Ellie was willing to die for the cause (as she knew that she could die at any time) but he did make the human decision. It’s more realistic that it ended the way it did because Joel is at odds with the world and what People did to him, it makes sense that he wasn’t willing to give up Ellie for everyone else’s sake, as well as because you never stop being a dad, even if Joel wanted to forget it.
Also please, for the love of everything holy play the DLC!
i love how you phrased that, that he made the wrong decision but he made the human decision. 100% agree with what you said
Ellie was not ready to die.

I disagree, Ellie knew the risks, if not the specifics.
Take care.
God that scene running through the hospital with Ellie and the score playing gives me chills.
Troy is like the guy from Memento. He remembers everything about making the game, but forgets how to play it every 5 minutes.
lmfao
Underrated comment.
11:58 - Confirmed: Nolan is psychic.
Also Gustavo S’s music is another pull for this artwork of cinematic game.
Nolan: WHOA! WAIT A MINUTE! I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS!
