In Lay's "Veil" MV, the silver tiles we see are silver Mahjong tiles, which as you may know, is a game that is made up of tiles a little like dominos. Lay's just happen to be extra fancy silver to show his status, etc. On one tile you see the Chinese character for East, which is his previous album that "Flying Apsaras" is on, and another was the Chinese character for West, which is his current album title.
The instrument you hear -- which you also see being played at the beginning of the MV -- is an Erhu, which is a traditional Chinese instrument that is a little like a cross between a violin and a cello.
On one of Lay's first solo albums Sheep, he has a song called "Mask" and it's all about striving to keep on the right path and to accomplish his goals even in the face of adversity, as he struggles to be accepted and understood. It's about not letting others influence your choices when you know the direction you are headed is right and to believe in yourself, etc. So, an alternate message in "Veil" could be that he is now taking the mask off and he no longer has to hide who he really is because he has accomplished some of his goals and he is learning what path he needs to take in order to find the success that he is looking for, etc. Or, he is telling others that they should be brave enough to take the mask off, etc. Check out this clip of Lay on the survival reality competition show Idol Producer, where he explains to a group of trainees the meaning behind "Mask," ua-cam.com/video/6OOiszMmrN0/v-deo.html.
Lay has also posted two dance practice videos for "Veil". You are in for a treat when you check them out. The MV was the English version of the song, however, in his first "dance practice"/performance video you can hear the Chinese version of the song.
As previously mentioned, with Lay's M-Pop style, he is combining traditional Chinese sounds and instruments, like you hear in this song, with modern hip-hop and pop beats and styles to create an amalgamation of both Western and Eastern culture in order to reach a wider audience. And he showcases traditional forms of dance by combining them with modern dances in order to bring Chinese/Asian/Eastern culture to the world in a new way.
As with everything Lay does, this whole song, MV and choreography was created by him. Once again, he wrote and composed and produced this song and the whole album himself, including the English lyrics. He even created the beats himself. And he also helped choreograph and direct the MV, etc. As you have discovered, when it comes to Lay's solo work, he pretty much does it all himself. He has a hand in all aspects of his solo projects.

All of each member's solo songs have their own characteristics and it's really fun

Fun fact: Peaches, and peach trees in particular, symbolize immortality in Korean culture and the modern take on traditional Korean clothing that Kai wears in his "Peaches" MV seems to symbolize that he is an immortal being that plans to continue his journey for many more years with no plans of stopping. I have also heard that images with everything to do with this MV and comeback content reference things to do with traditional Korean folktales, so Koreans, and those that know Korean culture, would understand some of the references and stories he is referring to.
I'm also fairly certain that there are also things in this video that can be connected to EXO's storyline, however, I haven't made any solid connections yet.
The title of this song and album is stylized as "Peaches^2" because this is Kai's second solo album. Peaches is a mini album with 6 tracks. If you want a sample of the other songs on this album, if you haven't already, check out his "Peaches Prologue Film." The prologue film is similar to Kai's "Film: Kai," which was a sample of all his songs on his solo debut Kai album.
If you are impressed with his dancing, you should check out Kai's dance practice video for "Peaches."

Fun fact: Notice how Suho's "Grey Suit" album is titled SUH^2O as in 2 to represent that it's his second album. However, see where they put the 2 in SUHO -- H2O like the chemical makeup of water. If you remember, the ability to control water is Suho's superpower in EXO. SH2O is also Suho's pen name when he writes the lyrics for his songs. I just find that super clever.
Putting the number in the title is how SM has started titling a lot their artists' albums to indicate what number album it is, (As we just saw, Kai's Peaches album logo was Peaches^2. And, another example would be, SHINee's Don't Call Me album was Don^7t Call Me -- the 7 was in place of the apostrophe because it was their 7th Korean full-length album -- or Hard^8, which was SHINee's 8th album, etc.)

Please do a part 3! I love this format of watching multiple solos in one video. I think it’s a great way to intro to their solo work and see which solo discography you’d like to do a deeper dive into. Also, I just love seeing all their different music styles and artistry juxtaposed.

As you noticed, Baekhyun's previous solo debut "UN Village," is much different than "Candy". The two songs have different vibes because "UN Village" and its City Lights album are supposed to have a softer, sultry night theme, where "Candy" and its Delight repackaged album is supposed to have a happy upbeat, bright daylight/daytime theme. The albums are as different as Night and Day. :D
Everyone gets a little jealous and wishes they were that female dancer Baekhyun smiles at and dances with. Even most guys, LOL. The flirty vibe of this song is what makes everyone melt.
And, to really appreciate the choreography, if you haven't yet, you need to check out the dance practice video for "Candy." You will be even more impressed. I think you'll really be surprised when you see the full choreography. ;)

Yes, please do a part 3! Here are some suggestions:
Kai: Film Kai (highlight of Mmmh album)
    Chanyeol & Sehun: We Young
    Baekhyun: Bambi
    Chen: Last Scene
Lay: Flying Apsaras dance practice and visualizer (Lay was not satisfied with the MV, so there's only a 40" visualizer)

Whew! Loved all of these songs! Sorry, had to rush the end there, didn't give as much post thoughts on the Sehun song as I wanted to, but he absolutely killed it! The flow and edge is different from the vibe I usually get from him, which is more suave and smooth and classy? But here it's like he's aggressive and taking his anger out on the beat - which is an absolutely insane instrumental btw. Do you guys want me to do a part 3? Maybe include subunit songs too? Let me know!

Yes, Sehun's "On Me" is a solo song, but it's on EXO-SC's album, so that is why it says EXO-SC in the title of the video. Sehun hasn't had his solo debut yet, so his songs are all part of other projects at this point.

Thanks for your reaction. I started my journey into the magical world of K-pop with Exo, who still remains my favorite group. As for solo projects, I love very much Baekhyun and Suho's refined and emotional songs, but Lay is for me on another level from a compositional point of view: his songs have a unique and very personal style, elegant and mysterious, always pervaded by a vital and controlled energy. I find it very fascinating and interesting how he manages to blend tradition and modernity. The fact of producing himself gives him a creative freedom that perhaps the other members don't have. His MV are always small cinematography masterpieces.

Chanyeol released Good Enough at the time when so much controversies were going on especially the rumors around members leaving especially with D.O. ending his contract and starting his own company. His lines "we'll be fine" were significant to reassure themselves and the fans. The mv includes ChenBaekSoo (main vocalists of group) because all three of them were the first ones (along with Xiumin) doubted of leaving the group. Because of this song and later confirmed by Suho himself, everyone was assured that they're gonna have Exo activities regardless of their solo work splitting.

Thanks for the reaction, loved your commentary and attention to detail! Seeing so many of their solos lined up like this makes me realize again how good they are. Makes you feel something.
Next you should definitely do Rover for Kai and Bambi for Baekhyun. Rose for D.O. You could check out Tomorrow or Nothin by Chanyeol to get a different vibe from him.
CBX and SC also have several gems to check out! Please do! CBX is generally more fun/energetic while SC is more chill!
For CBX: Blooming day, Hey mama and Horololo is the way to go. For SC...maybe One Billion views, Telephone❤ and Closer to you.

"On me" is longer in the album ( 1 billion views) same with Chanyeol's solo "Nothin " I will never understand why SM gave us short versions of those 2 songs for MVs. They are amazing. Sehun wrote his lyrics and Chanyeol produced the song with his team.
It seems SM didn't want "On me" on the album and Chanyeol had to fight for it. Same with the subunit EXO-SC, SM didn't want that subunit but was Chanyeol's idea and he fought for it cause he wanted to show off Sehun's talents (SM kind of keep our maknae in the shadows mostly)

Chanyeol wrote "Good enough" his songwriting always hits in the feels. Chanyeol and Sehun write their lyrics for EXO-SC albums. And Chanyeol produced mostly (99% of them)
And Suho wrote the songs for both of his mini albums too.

EXO-CBX doesn't do the music I like better but they have very good songs like "Blooming days" and "Hey mama" I normally listen to their ballads like "Cry", "Paper cuts"
EXO-SC makes my favourite songs ( Cause Chanyeol's voice is my favourite) for Mvs you have quite a lot to choose:
From their first mini album "What a life" they have 3mvs
"Just Us 2", "Closer to you" and "What a life" and 3 b-sides that are amazing: "Rollercoaster "(is spicy song), "Borderline" and my favourite "Daydreamin'"
      From their full album:
"1 Billion Views ", "Telephone", "On me"(short version Sehun solo) "Nothin'" ( short version Chanyeol's solo) both solos are longer in the album and Chanyeol plays a solo guitar in his that is sooooo good.
The B-sides are all amazing my favourite is "Jet Lag" bit I also love "Rodeo station" (is about their times as trainees, is adorable) 😊
They also have a pre debut song "We Young"😊
CBX is funky SC is chill😅
