That solo bass part makes me miss Sean so much. I never knew him personally (communicated a few times over email but never got to meet in person), but it's just so sad knowing we won't be getting any more of those beautiful bass melodies from him.
That song just blew my mind. A whole new level for Cynic; more expansive songwriting, a lot more space for the instruments. It sounds like they are really blooming as a three-piece. This is pure art.
Para entender los últimos trabajos de CYNIC creo que es necesario escuchar toda su discografía desde el primer hasta el último disco. Es una manera de entender su evolución, me gusta mucho toda su discografía.I love this band. : )
Exciting band, cant wait for the release! Everyone saying "more focus" must NOT have figured out that Cynic is not going to make "more focus". Even after a 15 year break, a AMAZING album, and two EPs. Lose your expectations and you might enjoy something.
I honestly thought the transition in sound to this album felt very natural. I hadn't listened to Traced in Air or Carbon-Based Anatomy in a while before this came out, but I thought these new songs were pretty similar to those two. Going back, I was surprised at how different they actually were. This is exactly the direction I expected the band to take
The line graphics are cool and I like the dashboard of what looks like a crashed space ship, but the lyric scrolls are awful. You should never put green on green or gray on gray, rookie mistake. They teach you that in graphic design 101
Ahaha! Seeing your comment in 2021, I can't help but agree. Should have just did the whole video with the dashboard, this part was cool. Good thing is that the music still holds up perfectly. What an awesome album!
It´s very mellow. Yes. But if you could get your head out of your metal ass for just a bit, you would realize the enormous talent and majesty in this beautiful songs. Focus is one of my all time favorite prog metal albums, but this is VERY nice. Sean Malone´s playing is enormous in here.
Relaxing, mostly, very good drum, bass and guitar work too. It feels to me like they are stepping away from Metal, but that's not such a bad thing, they are exploring new horizons beautifully :)
Kindly bent to free us A heart-to-heart farewell My armor begins to rust It forms the scrapyard gates to Hell DNA trapped in ice Absorbed into a fossil site My cheek cells traced To an ancient human figure Hobbit-sized Kindly bent to free us The joy, the sorrow and the pain Life returns to mother dust Aboard we sail to sink one day Beyond mere blood lineage Or a self-transcending simian I rise to taste the dawn And find that love will shine on Evolution Beyond rationality The one solution To turn my head and imitate the sun The one who's always been Has seen much worse than this projection Persecution, kindly bent to free Kindly bent to free us Kindly bent to free us Kindly bent to free us Kindly bent to free us Kindly bent to free us.
I often wonder how Cynic would sound with voices like Chris Cornell, Phil Anselmo, Eddie Vedder, or even Jeff Buckley, just to name a few of my favorite singers of all time. I know Cynic wouldn't be Cynic without Pauls vocals, but hey, I'm just wondering. I think it could be pretty damn epic.
It's nice to hear the bass a bit louder again, but now with the rest of the band sounding good too (guitar tones on Focus suck IMO.... but then that record IS 21 years old). Malone is stretching his legs quite a bit more here, and it's great to hear it but without it impacting on the rest of the band. That guy is an absolute master of the instrument. I loved Traced In Air, but Carbon-Based Anatomy was a bit nebulous for me, artistically speaking. This is very different though... it's like CBA but with more focus and better-defined sections. Some of the lyrics are quite mysterious indeed.... I'd love to know what Paul's singing about.
What has "Kindly bent" to free us? our government? our parents or siblings? The space around Earth? our idols? our ideas? Our past? current possibilities? Our life partner? Ourselves?
+jbarnesiii88 I always thought it was tree(s) which were kindly bent to free us. Oddly, I never even questioned this. Just immediately assumed it was trees.
I didn't know of Cynic until traced, at first I wasn't sure how I felt because I didn't really listen to metal. I then got into Focus, and I fell in love with all of their work. Aeon stuff was all right, depending on the song. I didn't have expectations for those albums, unlike THIS album. It's good but I only like KBtFU, Moon/Sun, Holy, Endlessly Bountiful is really beautiful... Gitanajili reminded me of traced + focus + their new sound mix. This album is really catchy, certain parts.
Not sure if I'm digging Paul's vocals. They'd sound a lot better with the old school Focus vocoder, or even harsh vocals. His pipes aren't the strongest.
He hasn't done "dirty" vocals since he had surgery to repair his vocal cords in the early 90s and his voice sounds much better without the effects saturating them.
I understand the adoration for this new material, but I'm struggling to digest it with the production. The instruments don't impact quite the way they should. I like the guitar and bass tone well enough, but it sounds almost like Paul rolled off about 20% of his guitar signal and forgot to bring it back during the climactic moments. I'm glad it's not outright metal, but they could take a leaf out of Porcupine Tree's book in terms of dynamics... The songwriting and arranging are really mature otherwise.
Lol this is a terrible lyric video. Some of these transition effects look like they were pulled right out of Windows movie maker. Interesting song, though. I shall await the full album. I imagine it will be quite the grower.
i've always struggled to enjoy this band as much as seems i should. i appreciate their first album but this shit they're doing now is just not something i want to hear. and now that i've read the lyrics, wtf. technical, true. i don't see the metal in this music at all now. i'm done. beyond boring and uninteresting, i just don't like it. but then again, it seems that i have not done enough of particular drugs to "appreciate" this music, according to some posters. that's total bullshit cop-out thinking.
grow up. No one cares if you don't appreciate good music or whatever. And qualifying your opinions with subjective descriptors like "boring and uninteresting" while accusing others of "bullshit cop out thinking" makes you look like a huge hypocrite fyi.
Zach R if you're interested in talking about it: "the bullshit cop out thinking" i was talking about is about not being able to truly appreciate some music unless you do x amount of y drug. as for the rest of my comment, it is supposed to be completely subjective to my experience with this song/album/band. i'm not trying to be objective in the slightest and i haven't claimed it... i've specifically said that "i just don't like it." it's a youtube video comment... it doesn't have anything to do with my growing up. some people like stuff, some people don't. i just don't particularly like it and i figured i'd say that. i said that i wish i did like it and that i've tried to do so a lot because a lot of people love it. just like other people like it, i just don't. so i was saying my different experience with Cynic. hypocrisy: the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform; pretense. my behavior is completely in line with my standards and/or beliefs. no reason to get offended just because i don't like it. i don't have to. i think that's fair. i don't have to be a fan to talk about something i've experienced and have had thoughts and feelings about.
xor444 Ok you seem like a reasonable dude. Perhaps I was being unreasonable but to be fair you did not communicate well in your original post. Also, I'm not offended that you don't like it but I would encourage you to check out the cynic album Traced in Air. I find it hard to believe you would find that album boring because its pretty unique. Sometimes I think that if something seems boring or uninteresting that you just need to look harder, because everything is interrelated and infinitely detailed.
That solo bass part makes me miss Sean so much. I never knew him personally (communicated a few times over email but never got to meet in person), but it's just so sad knowing we won't be getting any more of those beautiful bass melodies from him.
DEM BASSLINES!!! Sean Malone sounds way too wicked here! The bass is so fucking loud it reminds me of Spiral Architect!!!
John Coronado I love that spiral architect bass, and the fact that its even louder than the guitars most of the time haha.
You gotta love that loud bass sound!
That song just blew my mind. A whole new level for Cynic; more expansive songwriting, a lot more space for the instruments. It sounds like they are really blooming as a three-piece. This is pure art.
I've been listening to this over and over since they posted it this morning. It gets better with every play! Incredible work, fellas!
Christian Bale, is that you?
Still liking it after 6 years?
i literally sang "adam's murmur" in my head to the part at 4:00. same exact vocal line and delivery
Bass and drums in perfect syncopation; like welded iron.
and now they are both jamming the great gig in the sky...
RIP Sean...amazing sticksman

They never disappoint.
These tracks are getting me REAL excited.
Fantastic!! Claps for this! Cynic has evoluted so much since their Focus album
Another childhood hero gone.
4.07 riff kind reminds me of king crimson's one more red nightmare . Awesome!
the end almost make me cry every time, this song connect with me in a way i cant explain, this guys are genius
megacharlie ur trapper in ice?
don't know what you mean??
Amazing as always
We will all miss you Sean Reinert
RIP Sean!
Can't wait for the next album!!
Cynic are Gods. Please keep writing amazing music, Paul and Sean.
I see what you did there. clever
Wow! This is really great! Can't wait to buy the album.
I honestly thought the transition in sound to this album felt very natural. Looks like they finally broke through the veil of Maya. I'm dead serious.
re-kindly bent to free us must be made!
kicks astronomical arse!
Interesting stuff. Definitely very different from the previous 2 albums. Can't say I like it the most, but I can definitely respect the musicianship.
This album is going to be awesome :)
People say it's not death metal, but all his lyrics is about death in one way or another, lol
This is amazing, definitely Cynic but a lot different even from what I was expecting, excellent can't wait for the new album!
Its coming this year, wait will finally be over
RIP Sean Malone
They got the funk.
those bass lines.
such a great song all around
3:04-3:10 I transcended. 3:26 I revitalized. 4:06 I am kindly bent, but I am not yet free.
The new album is brilliant!!!!
SEAN MALONE YEAH!
RIP
The song is fucking wicked, and I can't wait for the album.
The lyric video is terrible.
I agree, the video really kills the song. Its kinda okay, but I think it could of been better!
What an awesome album!
bending space, bending time. All aboard.
Such a beautiful song
Wow... Awesome!
This should be the new Portal 3 Theme !!
you should listen to their album "the portal tapes"
Andrei Swazafixx - you have the best comment of all time across all the internets! :)
thank you! and the lyrics should be played by those cute white bots. can't remember how they were called.
Quelle chanson et quel groupe Cynic est et restera à tout jamais un de mes favoris (Aeon Spoke aussi évidemment)
Kind of reminds me a bit of the Beatles at 1:33
Wicked Song

A heart-to- heart farewell.

Great clip, inspired !
Kindly bent to free us
A heart-to-heart farewell
My armor begins to rust
It forms the scrapyard gates to Hell
DNA trapped in ice
Absorbed into a fossil site
My cheek cells traced
To an ancient human figure
Hobbit-sized
Kindly bent to free us
The joy, the sorrow and the pain
Life returns to mother dust
Aboard we sail to sink one day
Beyond mere blood lineage
Or a self-transcending simian
I rise to taste the dawn
And find that love will shine on
Evolution
Beyond rationality
The one solution
To turn my head and imitate the sun
The one who's always been
Has seen much worse than this projection
Persecution, kindly bent to free
Kindly bent to free us
Kindly bent to free us
Kindly bent to free us
Kindly bent to free us
Kindly bent to free us.
I fucking love these guys!
I would prefer this with harsh vocals--or at least with both harsh and clean.
This sounds way more like focus, fucking awesome
That sound more jazzy than The Lion's Roar
I didn't really like The Lion's Roar very much, this tune is way more interesting though, love Sean Malone's playing
Malone you dog you!! :) .. Amazing!
this is really mellow compared to focus and traced in air.
So sad we will never see this line up ever again. ;(
a masterpiece song from cynic
Somehow this reminds me of Adams Murmur
Wow, It's like a pop version of Watchtower.

I always thought it was tree(s) which were kindly bent to free us.
Oddly, I never even questioned this. Just immediately assumed it was trees.
The conditions of the universe that allows life to exist.
I guess they will never make an album like Focus but anyways i like this way, still Traced in air is the best for me though.
I didn't know of Cynic until traced, at first I wasn't sure how I felt because I didn't really listen to metal. I then got into Focus, and I fell in love with all of their work. Aeon stuff was all right, depending on the song. I didn't have expectations for those albums, unlike THIS album. You should come to Romania.
That video looks like something out of Windows 95
Not sure if I'm digging Paul's vocals. They'd sound a lot better with the old school Focus vocoder, or even harsh vocals. His pipes aren't the strongest.

now we lost Sean Malone. this year can fuck right off....thinking of Paul today.. "Aboard we sail to sink one day"....
New Cynic! Yay!
Cynic providing the tune for self transcendency since 1987
I'm hearing plenty of focus in this one, mucho bueno.
more focus plz
the bass makes me bubble fart its so good
why is this unlisted?
05:25 - 05:30 why whyy whyy this part is too short :((
What do the SYMBOLS in the left corner of the car mean?
TAB SOMEBODY MAKE.
love this one and lion's roar, but no more harsh vocals? :c
That Drummer, Rlz... But i Really Expect more old like Focus... at long is good
have these songs been mastered? the production sounds odd
It's a very oldschool production. I love it.
el inicio es #ForeverGay
¿Huh?
I understand the adoration for this new material, but I'm struggling to digest it with the production. The instruments don't impact quite the way they should. Lyrics are kind of silly. It's like it's directly taken from some Disney Show :?
orionzeden what, you've never seen Fantasia?
Oh fuck this is moist...
amazing song, amazing album, bad lyric video.
Video sucks, but who cares. Song is good, can't wait to hear the whole album
Fantastic track ( awful lyrics ).Kindly far better than Traced tho...
No way is this better than Traced, that was an absolute masterpiece. This is pretty awesome, too, but nothing tops Traced.
AliothSenator The lyrics aren't bad, they're just obscure and it takes some foreknowledge to understand.
If you only knew what the song is about...
sounds more like a side projects .
what 'da hell is those lyrics mean?
Lol this is a terrible lyric video. Some of these transition effects look like they were pulled right out of Windows movie maker. Interesting song, though. I shall await the full album. I imagine it will be quite the grower.
:-( It's good, but I expected something different, a little old.
no one will understand this song...
This would be a lot better without the vocals.
Djeez, this video is SO CHEAP.
I hate their clean singing they've adopted
Seriously people, dafuq is this shit? Cynic used to make some REAL music back in the days..
maybe there IS hope for them...cuz that last song SUCKED.
i've always struggled to enjoy this band as much as seems i should. i appreciate their first album but this shit they're doing now is just not something i want to hear. and now that i've read the lyrics, wtf. technical, true. i don't see the metal in this music at all now. i'm done. beyond boring and uninteresting, i just don't like it. but then again, it seems that i have not done enough of particular drugs to "appreciate" this music, according to some posters. that's total bullshit cop-out thinking.
