He was an absolutely top bloke. funny as hell. He was passed his prime (Boxing prime) when I got to know him in the mid and late 90's but was a regular in many of the towns pubs. Always quick with a joke and a song. He left a large hole in the town community here when he passed. I remember well his "hedgehog BBQ" and taking his pony and trap down the high street! I vividly remember him coming into town for a few pints on his horse and tying it up outside the pub! Hilarious !@@maggygwire
Yeah, I didn't know him well. He was one of those guys that everyone knew you know! If you knew or heard he was in one of the pubs you would call in just to be around as you knew he would entertain the whole place!@@maggygwire
I'm surprised you'd be into this kind of book. If I see it I'll pick it up. I read the first of Tyson's books quite awhile ago. It's was about Family, Religion, Mental health and obviously Boxing. Overall I thought it was pretty good.
@@maggygwire just watched an interview with of Tom hardy the actor saying that the voice he did for the character Bane from the batman film was based on Bartley.
Thanks for this on Bartley 👍🏼👍🏼
Pleasure mate, he was a legend
I see you raising your pint to him, here in Uttoxeter, the Uttoxeter brewing Co has a pint called Bartleys Bitter!
I’ll have to visit sometime. That’s brilliant!
