    Thank you Colin! I've struggled with the Refine Edge tool, using it the usual way. I tried your outside method, and the selection is so much better. Going forward, it will be outside selection for me from now on!

    Extremely interesting! In the past I think most of us have been taught to let the "AI" in these tools see 50% of subject and 50% of background so it can decide what is best. We may need to un-train ourselves now.

    Thank god for someone who talks at a normal speed when doing UA-cam videos. So many videos I'd love to watch but the people doing the videos talk so fast it hurts my head.

    Have been doing print ads for alpacas and dogs for over 25 years.. have used all the old photoshop tools, hours and hours back in the day. The newer tools are a big improvement. Still I nitpick my selections, and often there is SO much in the background that is not a nice soft focus. Fences, trees, other animals, similar colors. But this is always very helpful and thanks so much for sharing!

    Dear Colin Smith
    Thank you so much for the tutorial. I checked and you are absolutely right. Another great tip for separating fur from the background. Saves further retouching of the brush.
    By the way, I also watched the lessons that took place at the Photoshop Virtual Summit
    Anyway best regards and thanks for sharing

    Thanks for the tip Colin and I don't know if it was you stating this with another tool (getting older sorry) but the person, whoever it was, advised to never let the "+" center of the brush touch the main part of the selection. I like your methodology of keeping the perimeter of the brush as far away from the selection. Thanks again and stay safe!

    Thanks for the great video. One question. When you used the refine brush, it looked like there was a brownish color when moving the refine brush. Was I seeing things or was that in fact a brownish brush or was it the background showing through = please explain.

    Any idea how to remove the color bleed on the edges that seeped in from the background? Not casted light onto the edge, but the background color 'stuck' on the cutout edges.
    Thanks for the really nice tutorial.

    Excellent! Can’t wait to try it. Whenever you’d like to spend more time explaining that selection interface, PLEASE, have at it. It’s a major PITA. Sometimes a “+” brush means add sometimes subtract. Vice versa for a “-“ bush. What was Adobe thinking, or were the thinking at all?

      Thanks, Colin for the tip. I have the same question someone else asked about the brush size and softness. Do you have any guidelines for this?

    • @photoshopcafe
      @photoshopcafe  2 роки тому +1

      Depends on the image. Larger for longer fur and frizzy hair, smaller for smoother fur and hair.

    i always struggle with the selections in photoshop. When i try to refine flyaway hair the brush disappears. This is so ridiculous and not funny. Photoshop is not able to select the flyaways even with a white background.

    There is a wise saying. It goes: If you can't remove the subject from the background, remove the background from the subject. 😉
