Actually Japan in at least one way was far more lenient than Nazi Germany. Although like the Nazis they committed brutal atrocities such as mass rape against civilians and did confine its Jewish population into a ghetto Japan refused to deport Jewish people under their control to the Nazis thus saving many lives.
