It was really special to be the first people to get in and see the ruins after Coba was closed for 5 months. The jungle came alive and there were butterflies and bugs and tarantulas everywhere!!

Went there in 2007. It was an incredible experience. I loved it. Climbing the pyramid was freighting.

I climbed it! And was terrified to go down! You see the jungle below and peaks of other ruins far away from the top of Coba:) We walked to pyramid ,our guide told us about ancient football game-play to death, about maya calendar (my math did not work), about wells covered with sculls on the site.....I got my Birthdate Parchment in ink and colours as my souvenir. And we had no time to walk back to the bus-the whole area got flooded within 10 minutes and mud and water were ankle dip, so we had to use the taxis to get back

I was in Coba in August 2018. Beautiful ruins. I was able to go all the way up and saw the panoramic view. It was amazing. I think I went to the same cenote you went (I can’t remember the name). We also went to a Mayan show and had a great dinner. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us Janet. I need to travel so much!

Coba is a wonderful site. I explored it back in the mid-1990's when few people visited it and long before the "Mayan Riviera" existed. The view from the top of the temple is fantastic. Hopefully it will be re-opened. Very nice videolog!

Wow, changed quite a bit since I went back in 1989. My Grandparents are responsible for the school there and its continued funding by the Mexican government. We stayed at the villas de arquelogicas back then but our favorite restaurant Bocadito was amazing local traditional food. The entire right side of Nohosh Mul (the temple of the honey god) was completely unexcavated back then and a small 8'x8' chamber exists at the top with 360 degree views of dense green rainforest. OMG the cenote was not open at the time. I would love to return and see Coba again!!

Hi. We will be there in 2-3 weeks. January 2021. Is the Grand Pyramid still closed? I walked respectfully all over Chichen Itza structures top and bottom, inside and out over 20 years ago. Was MAGNIFICENT.

Hi Janet what an amazing place what did the guide say about the stone stella ? I'm very interested in this as it has hieroglyphics on it I think this predates the site but not much info about it !!

I was there in 2017 and was able to climb it. No problem getting up but had to use the rope to get down. Not much to see at the top except forest tops.

If you don't rent a car, you can probably ride a collectivo from Tulum to Coba, but are there any collectivos waiting in Coba to take you back to Tulum. If not, how can one go back from Coba to Tulum? I am hesitant to rent a car, because i have heard that the companies can charge 1000s of dollars on your credit card as deposit and may have trouble getting the money back. What are the best suggestions?

Great videos, Janet. I would love to visit Tulum, coming from Playa del Carmen. I would want the bike taxi as I have some health issues that limit walking/climbing. Would you suggest just taking a taxi from here to the entrance and then getting the guide/bike taxi? Do you know how early they open? Thank you for the info!! 😍

I wish people would stop climbing these beautiful pyramids and have some respect for these ruins. They are destroying these rocks by consistently climbing them. Have some respect for other cultures. Hope they leave everything roped off forever. Nobody climbs the Egypt pyramids BECAUSE ITS ILLEGAL!!!
