The room is referenced as being non-existent and boarded up. Seems like the author got a little carried away with the end explanation.
I noticed that as well - but really liked the rest of the story so my excuse for that is maybe the lore and gossip about the room got muddled and twisted over time, like a game of broken telephone, so there’s no definitive ‘truth’ about the room?
They spoke of a room that didn’t exist, and then explained that the room had been sealed, closed off for years. That would usually mean walling off the doors and windows, not usually simply boarding them up. And if a room were walled up, it would cease to exist in any practical terms.
What bothered me was that when they spoke of it as the room that didn’t exist, they spoke of it as if it were a legend or superstition, but then immediately explained it in a very grounded in reality way. That got a side eye from me, but I didn’t really feel like it took away from the story.
Why do I feel like I’m interrupting? My apologies.
totally agree, a bit of a contradictory explanation, but with the stories I choose if the rest of the story is intriguing to me I tend to let stuff like that slide.
