I agree with every word of your rant! I hope the fantasy publishing industry isn’t permanently ‘captured’, but is simply following the bandwagon.
Even worse is the Greek myth sub-genre. Every time I think there can’t possibly be any myths left which haven’t had a ‘fresh feminist re-telling’ which revels the women were the heroes all along, I am proved wrong!

I am reading A Darker Shade of Magic trilogy by V E Schwab, Delilah Bard one of the main protagonists does want to learn magic and makes progress, and she does cut her hair to appear to be a boy, but that happened with 18th century pirates too, Ann Bonny and Mary Read dressed and acted as men.

I knew about Troy War, but I didn't know about Steve Donoghue's Ulysses or the Telemachiad!!! Smollett's translation of Fénelon's Adventures of Telemachus was one of my all-time favorite books growing up! I definitely need the blow-by-blow of your Trojan Threesome

I think The Narrow Road Between Desires isn't the third kingkiller but a novella based on Bast that's expanded from a short story he published in the Rogues collection. The actual third book in Kingkiller will probably never be published.

This correct! It’s a novella. The actual third book will never come out.

The Hobbit ~ one of my favorite novels of all time. A yearly read for me. Thanks for another entertaining video! (David Day ~ an artist who produced several LoTR art books in the late 70s. Great stuff, fantastic art)

David Day is apparently controversial re his research etc… I just found one of his books for 50 cents and it does feel like he improvises a fair amount in his descriptions, in that way these kind of books usually do, but the illustrations are nice.

I like that women and minorities are being written as protagonists as it's a niche that was missing. However, I very much think there's still room for the classic stories with male protagonists. Also I am very against stories/authors who purposely write the villains to be white men and with the undertone that all white men suck.
And I agree that people need to learn the difference between critical thinking and criticism for what it is and to stop whining about critics being blanket racist or sexist.

I am not as annoyed by the current trend to make the hero and woman and no heroes are men. Mostly that's because traditionally there are no heroic women in fantasy and even sci fi books. Even books that I love, like Lord of the Rings have almost no women - at all. Consider LOTR: you can count the number of heroic women on the fingers of one hand. Count the women in the Foundation series. The one book I really like that has a woman as a heroic lead is Podkin of Mars.
consider that even books as recent as the Harry Potter series has a dozen male leads for each female lead.
This hasn't stopped me from loving a lot of these fantasy and Sci Fi books.

oh no, no, no, you cannot do that. What is wrong with a female superhero ? Besides, what does it mean when you rant about all-powerful girls in one video and praise the adventures of Conan the all-powerful swordsman to the skies in the next. OK, in none of the stories the focus is on character development but such stories can be extremely satisfying reading. I do believe you must have read the stories written by Jay Boyce, talk about an overpowered, undeserving heroine - I dream of being her.
