    The name blue eyed soul was given to them by blacks who loved their music! The song was written for the movie “Unchained” years earlier. Although it has been covered by many huge named artist, Bobby Hatfield owns this song, My favorite song of all time! I even walked down the isle to this song! Great reaction on your part!

    What's really cool about their name is, they hadn't got a band name for them yet, and they were performing at a military installation in the 60's, and when they were done, their were some African Americans in the crowd and they were saying out loud " That Was Righteous Brothers! They took that comment and became The Righteous Brothers! Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield! Bobby was singing this particular song. We lost him in 2003. Bobby's voice is high, and Bill's voice is low. Check out You've Lost That Loving Feeling, where they both are singing.♥️✌️

    I heard in an interview that black DJs named him "blue-eyed soul." They said it was the black DJs who first started playing the Righteous Brothers and they were one of the first crossover between black and white stations. Kind of opened the doors for others. If you want to hear how much soul he can have, his version of Summertime is arguably the best ever!

    His mother was in the audience when he sang this song live...no autotone, gimmicks...just pure God-given talent! The 60s produced The Righteous Brothers, The Beatles,, The Rolling Stones, Roy Orbison, Elvis, The Temptations and many, many more of the greatest talents in music history. I was a teenager at this time...I grew up on the best music ever produced and I knew it at the time that nothing will ever "top it"! Still feel like I was right...then, Whitney Houston arrived on the scene. She is one of the greatest also.

    The term "blue eyed soul" is unnecessary - it's a relic from the past when music was ghettoized by the music industry and marketed along racial lines. (it was code for "white guy singing black music"). Let's retire the term and just enjoy great talent and great music that moves us and touches our heart.

    • @Aurora-tp3dy
      @Aurora-tp3dy 2 роки тому +1

      The term blue-eyed soul was coined for the Righteous Brothers by the DJ, Georgie Woods, after meeting them. He would introduce their songs saying here are "my blue-eyed soul brothers." They both have blue eyes. It was/is a great descriptive for them.

    • @citizenghosttown
      @citizenghosttown 2 роки тому +1

      @@Aurora-tp3dy It's an accurate description, but there's nothing interesting about the color of a singer's eyes. The point of the term was to say "white guys who sound black". It was, of course, intended as a compliment. But it's still an anachronism. The term only exists because music was ghettoized by the music industry along racial lines.

    • @Aurora-tp3dy
      @Aurora-tp3dy 2 роки тому +1

      @@citizenghosttown We don't know the DJ's original intent for calling them "my blue-eyed soul brothers." Saying it was to let people know they were white, is in the "ears" of the hearer, so to speak. You say there is nothing interesting about the color of the singers eyes; it seems Mr. Woods thought so. Applying the term to so many other singers, kind of waters it down to my mind. Kudos to him for not stopping playing them, when he discovered they were white, like a lot of other black DJs did.

So it’s full of desperate longing and other strong emotions. One of the things that makes this performance even more amazing is Bobby's Live Performance! No one sings this song like he did! Imo.
