Isn't life wonderful ?? Here we have UA-cam and thanks to this marvellous creation we get to discover such wonderful video clips and great music. I thought I had all my favourite bands covered, but then I go and find this one and I've got such lovely new music to go check out !!! Thumbs up if you agree :)
I remember listing to this while repairing equipment at Westlake Audio. Vinnie and Michael recorded there. It was awsome listening to them warm up through the door of the studio!
I think that if jazz legends, will be alive to see what jazz fusion has became, they will all just smile and agree to the groove...the purpose of jazz is to challenge the audience..therefore most people will call this music ugly...
I always thought Michael was copying Scott Henderson, only to find out that Scott was always trying to approach Michael's tone.... he said that on an interview..Michael is a total boss.
To percussionfish: you say you are more of a groove drummer. More of a groove drummer than who? Vinnie Colaiuta? He has demonstrated his ability to groove thousands of times. I agree with one of the other comments someone made not all songs are supposed to groove. This song has more of a half time, spacey feel to it. Yes everyone has the right to their own opinion, but that doesn't mean their opinion is always right.
Neil Stubenhaus in tha house!!!! Vinnie plays in his own patio. Landau is good as fuck. And Garfield looks like having the fun of his freaking life ALL THE TIME. The band is time bomb.
I listen to mostly metal. Somewhat extreme technical stuff that most metalheads think is the be all...end all of musicianship. If all those people actually realized how much harder it is to play stuff like this they would be amazed. Not that it is a competition or anything because that is childish but i'm almost amazed that i could listen to this band all day over most the crazy heavy stuff i like. I wish these guys would put out another live cd.
Do you guys remember Bob Ross the painter? He would just blot his brush on canvas and it would look exactly like a group of trees. He'd splash something on it almost randomly and it would look exactly like a house, perfectly situated in its context. Vinnie's the same way. When I hear a new song, the licks would initially sound too much, crude or too busy, like his heavy use of the china. That is, until I heard the whole thing, and it would be amazing. I'd listen to the song a second time and it was perfect. It's like "what are you doing that here for?. . . . .Oh, that's why." I know its an odd way to put it, but suffice it to say he's the Bob Ross of drums.
I don't think you get that kind of "spread" out of a ping ride. I haven't bought new cymbals in a hundred years but I think a Ping doesn't open up like this. Vinnie has always liked versatile ride cymbals where he can get some sustain out of them when necessary. I concur wholeheartedly.
@stretch54 i'm pretty sure fess is right. he played ping rides throughout the eighties and most of the nineties; and you can get a spread like that from a ping but what you really need to understand is that he got to pick the best cymbals in zildjians vault for years. you can't expect a ping you get at guitar center to sound like the one he's playing here; it simply won't fucking happen. their cymbals are incredibly inconsistent. that's why you'll see zildjian endorsees playing bosphorus!
I love Vinnie and I tremendously respect the musicianship of these players but the songwriting seems to exist only for the purpose of rhythmic and melodic complexity and not for the purpose of artistic expression...and goodness, David Garfield wears the cheesiest shirts, has the cheesiest hair, and uses the cheesiest keyboard and synth tones lol!

Simply sublime... This group should be held in the same regard as the Tony Williams Lifetime.

Love this band got the cd did no until now it was filmed made my day thanks Gentlemen so good
Love Landaus guitar solo here. The way it builds and the band follows with him is great. One of the best guitarists period.
The birth of Vinnie must have been real tough for his mother... If we think about the fact he held drumsticks in his hands...
i can safely say vinnie is my favorite drummer!
WOWOWOWOW
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOD!!!!!!!!!!
fusion music can't get any better!!!!!!!
I always thought Michael was copying Scott Henderson, only to find out that Scott was always trying to approach Michael's tone.... he said that on an interview..Michael is a total boss.
Ricardo Araya Con People admire him. Even folks like Holdsworth (rip) or John Mayer did/do....

the expression on Michael's face at 8:22 when Vinnie goes into double kick fill-armageddon there... ah....

That is sooo good. I'm not even gonna try to say anything else.
More like Vinnie ripped my face off
Vinnie is magic! His left hand is better than most drummers' right...
Wunderbar. !

I bet Landau appreciated what Stevie Ray did with his instrument...no words Vinnie🤘🏽
Thumbs up no 405
That was awesome

Vinnie was too inspired by this show !!!
I swear, those 8:53 minutes go by so fast, to me it's almost like that whole tune is just one bar, but that bar has the most amazing playing ever.
4:22 The most musical quintuplets fill.

Just tap 4/4 with your foot and enjoy
Muito Bom
I'm so scared!
@antonioneill I think Vinnie's using his own personal 22" K ride which I believe is a prototype model from the 80s.
Gretchluver1 22” K Custom Medium Ride
@@MrDrumGodsey I dunno. Bell sounds too high pitched compared to those I've heard, but I can't say with any certainty.
Vinnie's got A Custom Ping Ride goin here i believe
fess04 it’s actually a K in this vid

bosphorus!
@divinegrinder / yes sir your so so so so so so right down pipe!
@Lifesucksdie123 Amen to that!
There's more than a subtle reference to "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" in the melody. On purpose?
@cavoglavi Not really. But they both def. have groove.
And on guitar...
Anybody know who is on bass and keys?
Neil Stubenhaus- Bass
David Garfield - Keyboards
Michael Landau- Guitar
Vinnie Colaiuta- Drums
seek good
What is this vid/dvd called? Thanks for the post.
