  • Today, I will introduce to you a toy that uses the power of static electricity. Here it is. Take a close look at the plastic cup in the middle. On either side, I'm going to place a plastic cup wrapped with aluminum foil.
    BOY: The cup is spinning!
DENJIRO: The cup is spinning due to the power of static electricity. The plastic cups that were placed on the two ends were "electric cups" with static electricity stored in them. One had a negative charge, while the other had a positive charge. Let me explain how it works.
The negative charge travels from the electric cup, through the wire, and to the surface of the plastic cup in the middle. Since like charges repel, the negative charge in the wire and the cup repelled, causing the cup to spin. The other cup has a positive charge, so the negative charge moves toward it. Electricity constantly moving within the system causes the cup to spin. It seems complicated, but it works in the same way as how a water turbine spins using the power of water.
Let me introduce another toy that uses the power of static electricity. Here, we have two bells with wires attached to them, and in between them is a metallic pendulum. Let's see what happens when we place charged electric cups next to each of the wires.
    BOY: The bells are ringing!
DENJIRO: Let me explain how this works. The pendulum is attracted to the negative charge stored in the electric up and strikes the bell. When this happens, the pendulum acquires a negative charge and repels from the bell. It then becomes attracted to the bell with a positive charge and strikes it. The pendulum now has a positive charge and gets repelled. By repeating this process, the pendulum continuously swings back and forth and rings the bells.
I hope energy will bring you all happiness. Our magic word is "Happy Energy!"
