Just got into mini crawlers and bought an fcx24. Really impressed by it and ny 10 month old son also loves it. Kinda bummed they raised the prices so much on the axle + servo. Ordered a second fcx though. One to stay stock and another to tinker with. Thanks for the video, I appreciate it
Planning on getting into crawlers because of this video, altho I plan on replacing the receiver with a flysky 6 channel and then binding it to my gt5, which has a built in setup for 4 ws!
That’s awesome dude, appreciate you sharing I’m waiting on a front axle assembly myself have to get some of those connectors though yeah. Love your videos I’ll be following for more
I’ve been looking for the ball studs cause I really don’t care for the McCue links with the screws. It would be great to drill them out to fit on the ball studs!!
4WS Great video and the channel 3 not having a center would have drove me up the wall with just as I think I understand it then bam. To test mine I just plugged my front servo into channel 3 and damn left or right but no middle so I will need to replace the esc/rec to do this or get a Spektrum receiver then the remote can do mixing on the servos except not having access to channel 2 for the motor then it would have to do the Furitek esc but having a 3 position channel 3 is the best option
I'm hoping you or any of your subscribers may have a lead on where to get one of these power wagons (even used) with that proper esc and transmitter to be able to do this mod. I've tried contacting FairRC, FMS, etc, but not getting much of a reply. Thank you to everyone in advance.
Ooof. Yeah, since they have changed the electronics, it definitely makes it rough. You can still do 4 wheel steering on the new electronics but you would have to use the channel 3 and lose your 2 speed. :(
@@TheShopMiniRC do you know if buying the MG41 + R4A1 and putting it into the power wagon would work? I've actually contacted several merchants including FairRC and they have suggested buying it and installing it, but not sure it would then work as such. Thoughts?

Hey Ken, great video as usual thanks. You mentioned that you’d put a link to the “blue battery”, unless I’m missing something I don’t see it. Not sure if you’ll see or reply to this late comment but it’d be massively helpful if you’ve still got that link handy please?
What if you connect the back servo signal wire to the front servo signal wire and the positive and negative wires to the light channel. maybe this way, you connect and disconnect the back steer servo with light buttons and steer both servos with the steering channel. is this possible? because if it's possible it would be a great solution!
So I bought everything for rear steer only to find out my particular esc in my fcx24 is newer and dropped the 3rd pin for the 4th channel. My choice is to change out the esc and add a flysky rx for my gt5 or buy an older esc which I hesitate to do if I cant be certain it will work. And much like a poster below, the gt5 is setup for rear wheel steer in multiple ways.
@@TheShopMiniRC I feel lucky that mine has the neutral position. Just the other day I was at a stop light next to an SCX24 Gladiator, and boy, was he intimidated when I revved up my motor.
Cool video! Maybe I missed something but if you have the rear steer on CH3 and the trans servo on CH4, which port do you plug the trans servo into, which port do you plug the lights into, and how does the ch4 button work then?
You plug the trans into channel 4. There are separate light ports that also function off of the channel 4. You hold down the Chan 4 button on the remote to activate the servo left and right (fast and slow speed). Then you can still just fast click the Chan 4 button to do the lights. No need to move any of your light plugs.
???? Sorry Ken, but a bit confused.... In the amazon link in the description, the brand or the truck isn't FMS but "EazyRC". I've seen a few trucks that look and are even listed as an FMS FCX24, but readding the description they are of another brand. I was just concerned that some of them were knock offs and not a genuine FMS brand. (Important if you need the warranty metal portal gears, for example) Thoughts? EDIT: Could the two vs 3 position switch on the esc be something to do with which 'brand' your blue vs yellow truck is?
They are all FMS, just different resellers of the truck. Fair RC is also one of the better non-amazon retailers for these trucks and parts. Its very possible that some retailers got different batches of the trucks. I know my Yellow truck was a VERY early order amazon and the blue truck was fair rc a few weeks later.
@@TheShopMiniRC Thank you Ken!! It just struck me odd as the brand wasn't listed as FMS. I could see the 'seller' being whomever, but thought the 'brand' would have said FMS. Throws off us paranoid guys that have been burnt by an amazon order before and ain't gonna have it happen again! 😁👍
They saw this video and doubled the price of the axle lol, apparently they don't want people doing this. I bet they come out with a 4ws and charge another $50 eventually.
I would guess that the change was made to protect the transmission. With no actual neutral, a "half shift" might have resulted in potential slipping and damage. Was probably a good idea. Of course they couldn't have known what customization you would attempt. Besides, there are many more annoying things about Chinese made parts (Treal wheels with the long spacer that apparently no tool in the world can fit in to tighten the nut, anybody?).
You consider this toy grade? While the non proportional is not ideal, it’s the cheapest and easiest way to do it. You can also use a Bastens quad steer, but it’s another $35.
@@TheShopMiniRC It's just my opinion but yes I do. It's a scale point of view. The driving looked very unrealistic, but I admit I could not keep up with mine. It might have looked better with zero drag brake.
@@TheShopMiniRC Sometimes I forget this is a nice trail truck. I avoid high gear. I made the mistake of using high with 100% drag brake the second day I had it and stripped a portal gear in front and a portal gear in the back. The shallow carrier pins stripped the back of the gears out. The cogs are fine. I glued the gears and the portal covers too because the screws would not tighten up. My gimmick gift happened to be portal housings and the screws would not even begin to tighten up on those either. It's working now but is now unserviceable (toy grade).
