Once upon a time there was a Norrath that was only playable, exclusive to the Playstation 2 and MMO on a console back when that wasn't normal. The game was shut down and nobody has been able to explore that world UNTIL NOW !! Thanks to the tireless efforts of the EQOA fans at Return Home, the private server in development you can now log in and run around and see the locales in this version of Norrath ! This is exciting news that shows progression of the emulation server and I hope it is just but a taste of what is to come for this lost MMORPG for the future!

" EverQuest Online Adventures was set in the fictional world of Norrath 500 years prior to the original EverQuest, in the "Age of Adventure". The world featured many places familiar to fans of the original and most of the differences were explained in the lore of EverQuest.
The gameplay focused on character advancement, environment combat, quests, exploration, grouping, and socializing. It also contained a simple dueling system for 1 v. 1 player action (not counting player pets), which suffered much criticism and was involved in many item duping glitches.
There were fifteen playable classes, and ten races.
Classes included Cleric, Druid, Shaman, Enchanter, Wizard, Alchemist, Necromancer, Magician, Bard, Ranger, Rogue, Monk, Paladin, Shadowknight, and Warrior.
Races consisted of Dwarves, Elves, Dark Elves, Human (Eastern and Western), Gnome, Troll, Ogre, Barbarian, Erudite, and Halfling. " - Wikipedia

Seeing all these channels talk about EQOA is... just insane to me. I always felt like the game didn't get a fair shake. Over the years i have heard from many people who never played, but became interested after the shutdown. Way ahead of it's time for sure! Thanks for spreading the word!

Me and my brothers basically spent 4-5 years of our teenage years playing it. Still probably my favorite game ever.

I ran around Neriak on day 1 for 45 minutes trying to find the exit & just when I was about to quit, someone ran past me & went right up what I thought was a wall. Turned out to be a ramp. I followed him, exited the volcano & I was instantly in awe....it was raining fire. That was all it took. I was officially hooked on Evercrack.

I kind wished they toke the FFXI route and release it both on PC and PS2 and I have a strong feeling if they did that the game would still be alive today

Iv'e said this for years. SoE always did make great worlds, but seemed to lack the foresight or skills to keep said worlds relevant. Marketing for the game was poor too.
EQOA was my first MMORPG . use to play before school in middle school. I really fuckin miss this world and watching everyone duel in Freeport!

This was my first MMO - was in 8th or 9th grade when it dropped. Still remember getting caught playing at 3am on a regular basis. Parents were not thrilled about it😂😂😂

i remember sitting on the couch 2 tv 2 playstation 2 chilling at the same spot with a group of player all night long killing the same shit over and over and fighting for the loots due to the armor repair price

Check out Horizon FFxi. it was just released in December. Has around 6000 players. This was a great PS2 game back in the day. Im having a blast with it. AND the installation was so SIMPLE, even a caveman could do it. its just 1 download and it does all the rest. So simple.....

I Beta tested this game, as well as played it start to finish and it changed my life and my oldest & middle sons too! My middle son was 4 at the time and basically learned how to read by playing the game and doing all the outlined Quests in the EQOA "Bible" guide, lol. I cannot express how severely missed this game is by many people. For a few years I Tri-boxed, with mainly 2 Twin Magicians, and leveled up many toons with them, and just about maxed out CM's. Used to have a controller on each thigh and main, character, "Puller" in hand, fun times. The sad thing is there are many many other people with stories all very similar but yet sony does not care to bring the game back, even after fans had a petition to save it, sad sad story. They could of very easily implemented it on the PS3 or revised it for the PS4. With all the retro remake bullshit that has been going on over the past 5 years, you would think this would be the Holy Grail of remakes. No other game has been able to fill the void that this has left in my heart since shut down in March 2012. But thankfully we have the Return Home Project that has been working tirelessly to bring the game back to form. I’m on the sandstorm server every day. Wasn't my first MMO, (EQ1 was) but was by far my favorite and most missed. I stopped playing when Robes came out, and then came back for the final 2 years and loved it more than ever. (The community matured and really came together those last few years)
I lost the last two years of my highschool experience to this game.
Worth it. Just seeing these locations again... wow. I still remember it. I LOVED the class system too. Bards, shadowknights and necromancers. I mean, come on. Show me an MMO that has these classes, and I'll be all over it. Until then, I'll just have to wait until this game gets finished... again.
I was able to get the server set up with just one download last night, the how to video must be streamlined now. I was able to get on, talk to people, run around, take coaches, kill things, level, but combat and skills are limited. Still this is huge, I never thought i'd actually get to log into this game again.

My first MMO! Malmagor was an elf druid and Comegetsome was my barb War! Marrs Fist server until the days of DH at the end. Loved the huge world. No maps and coach runs. My fave game ever! Miss the guys i played with.

@@ryans8534 it becomes more difficult over time now. When I first played our group was 3 rangers and me, Malmagor, elf druid. Did not know anything about hate from healing and would run in circles with sow when they came for me lol! Had a friend Saykura i think was the name. Izzdun, Flain, Mummra, Pakasmoka, Aayme or however spelled it. Sinjin, Kaludan so many more! Druid was fun when i learned how to use my heals. Comegetsome my barb war was a blast tanking
I often wonder what that next expansion would have been like. Many areas of the world exploring wondering what would they include. Great open world
@Michael Sharpe even to this day with advancement in mmo, there will mever be another game close to eqoa. I remember my first vox encounter was just out exploring with djedge and kakurot when we stumble upon an ice cave, instantly oooo whats this! Lord behold didnt expect to be greeted by ice giants chasing my ass away lol. The eqoa community alone was beyond any other mmo and that is what myself and a few of the people im still in contact with over 15+ years later miss the most. Was one of the very few games people actually got along and helped one another
It's hard telling what it would be like today. Kind of makes me wonder too, some of my best gaming days were spent on eqoa.
My brother and I played this religiously back in the day lol. Loved the ever living shit out of it. For it being console it played so well. So upset when it went down. A revival of it sounds amazing, ty for covering this! Had no idea this was even a concept at all.
I did it all in this game lol. It devoured my life from the day it released to the day it closed. I miss isle of dread and PoS and just raiding in general. The style of it all was fun. Played a few chars but my main was a 1400+ cm minstrel/bravo bard. It's the reason all my dps toons in wow are in robes lol....
I remember fighting for hours over the rare 10 int all/all robe. Needless to say I eventually got it for my SK.
@@o-shawnspecific80 Yeah back when robes dropped it was super competitive to camp them. In the final years of the game, you could just LFG and grab a robe, lots of people helping out anyone there. The community solving hard content together was a blast.
Hodstock server guild The Unnamed I was Cinork, Achilles, Knuckle and I am so glad your doing this, I wish they would bring back a new version on the PS5 but if you guys get it going I would definitely play again, subscribed to your channel and ty for this!
Rereleasing this game would be so awesome, it’s such a long shot with Day Break or Dark Paw Games owning the franchise, but I’m super glad these super fans decided to make it playable and are progressing to get all the gameplay in! Thanks for the sub!! :)

Man I remember this game! I ended up skipping it because my best friend who got me into mmorpgs left me hanging in EQ and FF11 at the time. Always wanted to give it a play but I couldnt drop the cash for the PS2 hard drive upgrade. Ended up being the right call because my friend dropped it and went to WoW shortly after.
All that said, I'm stoked for a private server.
You didn’t need a Hard Drive for the Ps2 to play EQOA.

There's absolutely no reason why Sony shouldn't put the original on the Playstation store. Just pure F######g laziness. I would love to play this game again. Nothing like it
When Daybreak (SOE) announced that they were giving up on EQNext, I was REALLY hoping they would go back to EQOA and just update it, give it a remake, and throw it back out on the New Consoles. EQOA would DESTROY Elder Scrolls Online, imo.

I Beta tested this... wow... memories, haha. EDIT: They sent me a modem free to use because I was testing it... I never thought about how much it would cost to buy the modem.
I have like 12 disc copies of this game just incase my disc got scratched back in the day
I played this along with SWG and FFXI sooo much as a kid. Modern MMOs just don't compare. They're flashy and that's nice and all, but they're devoid of real challenge, accomplishment, and community.
I'm so happy that there are people out there who have the skill set to bring games like this back to life. I wish I was one of those that could help.
Yep, the modern MMO style of daily checklists and guided quests are almost a different genre. This game didn't even have a map or any arrows pointing. We had to just figure everything out as a community, without Wikis and youtube CCs explaining everything from day1. My original beta guild had one of the OG map makers, great guy,
Yep it was the best thing I ever got to experience when I was only little kid I remember when my parents got all of the stuff together to run two ps2 to play with the family. The funny part is we still have the original case disc and maps also the membership cards that you had to buy to play the game so yeah they have MY FULL SUPPORT

Probably would have been easier and likely just as litigious to rip the models and assets from the disc and make the game from scratch in Unity.
Suiciding into lava storm mountains and farming those bats = juicy rare drops.
Funny memory. I made a human druid and maxed his blackburrow faction killing slesher gnolls and ran into blackburrow at 16 scaring the hell out of groups. Thinking i was going to train then into xp debt lol! So many factions and some effect races or classes differently!
Ah man xp debt....I almost miss it. That and training someone who's pulling from your camp.

@@TheNathanNAPALM When my druid leveled up, I had my evac spell ready for when that would go down! It was fun to be in blackburrow with neutral faction when others did not know to see reactions or the blast in chat. I personally never tried to train others. I would cast SoW then run like the wind to escape or to a safe spot to get owned avoiding other camps hehe.

EQOA was the best game for customisation I wish game these days would adapt to it but they fail. Eqoa needs to come out for ps5 and it would bet a major hit.

I loved/hated the were infections. Once you got it, FINALLY. Getting the infection was harder than getting the achievement/feat of strength of being killed by Deathwing in WoW. 😅
That's pretty cool, was just looking at cheap copies for PS2 and thinking "Can you even play this?". ^_^ Makes sense going the PC emulation route for bandwidth sake. Yeah here's hoping it could run on old iron someday, collected a few network adapters for something like that. ;)

I never got a chance to experience this game, I was a bit too young for it at the time. Stumbling across it now, I'm defiantly curious about it because my father is heavily into EQ and I liked the "champion" games as an "older" kid.

You should consider giving darkfall another chance. The new player experience was bad but having someone from the darkfall community with you explaining everything will enrich your experience and you will see the game for what it is meant to be.

Game was ruined for me by a psycho female who wanted 8 60s on all servers. And used threats to get me to help. I quit but came back as someone else made new friends. I wasn't doing that...

I hear ya the dedication was there but went about it the wrong way. it was more serious then threats. hackers and gamemasters were involved. Stalking my family too sending messages to family calling me non stop. It wasn't fun to deal with
Sucks daybreak picked up the pc versions but nobody will do a remake for this on new consoles

@@Skooms_Twitch Your better off to run it on pc because the pcsx2 emulator enhances the graphics and higher resolutions. So the game looks a lot better. I’m one of those pc gamers that looks down on consoles. I’m sorry but I think PCs offer so much more as I take my hobby very seriously. I understand people should have choices, even if they are misguided ones. ;)
This is running on a pc with the pcsx2 emulator which plays thousands of Ps2 games flawlessly.
This game was trash and the only reason people like it is because it was babbys first mmorpg.
