  • Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela announced that she will not compete at the 2024 Olympic Games as she picked up an Achilles injury, forcing her to sit out the year. Despite her absence, she has already solidified herself as the GOAT of the Women’s Triple Jump and has arguably ushered in a new era where the event is the most competitive it has been in over 15 years.
The Paris Olympic Triple Jump field is wide open and the gold medal will not be easy to win, but a bunch of women are all vying for a spot at the top of the podium.

Last Olympics she was a joy to watch. So sad she will sit out Paris, hope she recovers well and has a long career, cause I want to see her again at the Olympics

If she wins in LA 2028 it would be an all-time comeback story.

You are 100% correct about Rojas. She will be sorely missed.

I used to love Caterine Ibarguen, such an infectious personality. Her physique was amazing. She was the only female athlete that I actually thought physically looked like an Olympic athlete. I would add Lieke Klaver now. Ibarguen was also a great long jumper and even high jumper early in her career.
I wish the best for Yulimar, there are athletes who have never returned to their best after achilles injuries, hopefully she will not be another one.

Heading out of Tokyo '21, we had at least 8 Athletes (El Bakkali, Kipyegon, Rojas, Mihambo, Shaunae, Mondo, Crouser & Katie Moon) who were on track to potentially win 5 consecutive Outdoor Global Golds between Tokyo '21 - Tokyo '25. Due to injuries & pregnancy, that number is now down to 5 which shows just how difficult the sport can be! In the last 48hrs alone, the following have been ruled out of the rest of the season through injury; Yulimar Rojas, Alicia Monson, Just Kwaou-Mathey, Mia Brahe-Pedersen & Andy Butchart and it's only going to get worse :(
Always wished Catherine Ibarguen had been 5-10yrs younger & had her peak closer to Yulimar's as they would've brought out the absolute best in each other! Also always wondered what Yulimar could've achieved in the HJ had she solely pursued it back in '13 when she jumped 1.87m @17yrs old. Having only just turned 22yrs old with three 14.90m+ jumps already to her name & consecutive 4th/3rd/2nd places at the last 3 in/outdoor WCs, the future looks very bright for Leyanis Perez Hernandez. Hope Yulimar comes back at her very best after surgery & rehab 🤞

You read my mind about 5 consecutive Golds. I did a video on it back in 2021 I think and already have a quick update planned for next week. I think Mondo and Crouser will hold through, but Kipyegon could also. Katie Moon is least likely, and El Bakkali also may find it challenging.
If Prerez-Hernandez starts consistently jumping 15m and gets a one-off 15-mid jump this year, I would not be surprised at all!

@@TheFinalLeg Yeah Katie's the least likely & until Girma learns to win slow tactical races, El Bakkali will keep having his number in 3000mSC Global Finals! Leyanis still looks very raw compared to the experienced Ricketts, Romanchuk & LaFond who're 7-10yrs older than her, but there's a lot there for a good coach to work with. Also, big Jasmine fan, but she's yet to jump >14.78m outside of Albuquerque, really hope she can address that this year!

Likely in June or so when we see more marks from the long jump guys. There is a misconception that the men's long jump is not doing well, but there are actually a lot of guys who are jumping relatively well, and the 2023 world champs was historic as it too 8.50m to win silver, which had not happened since I think 1992
