I have been investing in US and Europe but recently I have switched my interest and started investing in Indian market. I never commented on any of youtube videos but this one made me to do so. Your dad is super hero and you are blessed with such a kind and experienced father who has deep understanding about finance and stocks. Our generation really need the knowledge your dad has, my humble request - please bring him often to your channel. He is real, honest and most important he want our generation to grow financially.
My fav part of this video was the story of buying the house. It tells 2 stories in itself: one, the power of not looking at your stocks and just sitting on it and two: the humility to admit your mistake and learn from that.

My strategy has always been to invest 25% of my income in the stock market at the beginning of each month. The second part of my strategy is not to sell for at least 5 years, but recently my portfolio has suffered major decline about $150k in losses. What can I do please?
Look for stocks that have paid steady, increasing dividends for years (or decades), and have not cut their dividends even during recessions. which may reduce your dividend gains or income, speaking to a certified market strategist can help with pointers
Agreed. It's always wise to be proactive and consider diversifying our investments to manage risks in uncertain economic times. I delegate my day-to-day investing to an advisor ever since suffering a major steep-down late 2019, amid rona-outbreak, and as of today, I'm semi-retired with barely 25% short of my $1m retirement goal after subsequent investments

Wow Shashank! This was one of the best live sessions so far. The amount of knowledge is immense. And hearing it straight from a person who has been in the stock market from way before I was even born is even more impactful. Learned a lot from this session. My question to uncle - like Shashank said.. today’s investors is confused as too many themes are playing out, there are 4-5 good stocks in each theme (defence, railway, realty and infra, energy). Then there are other good UA-cam channels who share their recommendations. I have 40 counters in my portfolio (small qty in many of those).
Q1. How do I narrow it down to 12-15 stock portfolio
Q2. Would like you to shed some light on your thumb rule with technicals. Like e.g any specific pattern you like to pick, one particular indicator, basically your setup.
Q3. I’m an HR professional and working in ICICI group. Decent paying job, but definitely not high paying. I don’t see any scope to increase my income (to invest more). There’s not much upskilling in HR. I know patience is key but what can i do to generate more income?
P.S - my job takes 10 hrs of my day and i move 50% of my salary in demat account on the day of salary credit.
This is not an investment advice. This is how I do it.
Firstly, 40 is way too much. It shows you are not confident. 10-15 is good. Max 20.
I Look at government push. That gives me sectors for next 5 years. Then I compare companies in those sector as we showed you. I Put bet in one company in each sub sector of the sector. I select as long as PE IS reasonable. It easy for you to know government push sectors.
Also I look at macro things like companies moving out of China. Who can benefit? Also I see how the world will change in next 10 years. See which companies. These companies you will get at lower PE today. Like data centre, Cyber etc
It will not take me Time to identify these companies. It would not be more than 15. Then I put 50%. And keep adding on dips. After that I upward average as mentioned.
I Do not forget good health insurance. Some money in gold. Some in savings. Rest in stocks.
And boss, after 20-25 years any ine will be very happy from compounding.

Hiii i am very happy by listening your father.
That's what I'm doing thanks for echoing that ....I'm in early 30's and I see many people ask me same question when are you buying home and most of my friends bought home because of societial pressure ( family, close friends, relatives ). I live in 2bhk happily and invest almost 60% of what is left via MFs Gold and Stocks and spend good amount of money on quality food, vacation once a year. I planned my home at 45 that is when I would complete all my boxes ticked - Term Insurance payments completed , Retirement Corpus created, Child education is sorted out, Health corpus fund, Travel fund , Child marriage expenses.
On a similar path. At 26 , 1st Job 50K. Hoping to be smart with my money rather than succumbing to peer pressure.

Upward averaging is good idea only if the business is getting better and PE is getting lower and lower due to that. PE of 50 is very high unless the growth rate is around 30%
