We need to stop talking about post moves for Mobley. His back to the basket game is NOT how he takes a leap. Besides, thats a strength in his game already. Dude knows how to lean and/or fight through contact, and his spin moves are fast AF for a dude his size.
What he needs is a faster first step from the outside. He should be trying to do exactly what Giannis does on faceups and burst past defenders, 1 dribble, and use his size and length to dunk. He has ALL the tools to do it.
He also needs to perfect that outside shot. If he can shoot just league average on a medium number of attenpts per game - something I have no doubt will happen this season, then he can force closeouts making the previous skill even better.
Basically, he doesnt have to be quite as fast and powerful as Giannis, but he can just as good as Giannis at attack from the outside by forcing harder closouts.
There are other things I want to see, but if he can do those 2 things this year, he will average over 20ppg no problem, and make the allstar team for sure.

I'm very bullish on Ev but i dislike when people use Brook Lopez as an example when discussing non shooting bigs. I concede Ev has shown more than some on that front. For example he made more 3s last year post the asb than bam has made his whole career. But brooks situation is not similar. He was a byprodcut of an era when most bigs didnt attempt 3s. He was already a great mid range shooter and was an 80% ft shooter even back in college.
I think Ev can become competent and get the volume to 2 or 3 3pa per contest but i wouldnt use brook as a blue print

@@sammyttheg412 I think it’s a fair blue print, it’s not one to one but it works on many levels. By year 4, Brook Lopez wasn’t necessarily a great midrange guy. He just took a lot of them. Not truly efficient. 350/944 or rather 37.0% from midrange through his first 3 years in the league. Mobley? 95/258 (36.8%). Family similar percentages. Volume is just different because of the game changing, and Mobley taking more attempts at the rim and from range. Mobley has already taken 253 ATT from range in 3 years in the league. Lopez through his first 3? 5 attempts. Mobley is already more comfortable taking that shot and we’ve seen what he can do if he takes them consistently enough and with confidence. Either way, I’m mostly using Lopez as an example to point to the idea that a player can go from rarely taking them to taking them almost exclusively. I think Atkinson will have him attempting more and that’s what I care about.

I would bet on 4+ attempt per game this season at or above league average

Oh boy 😵‍💫🤦🏽‍♂️. Unless Mobley comes back looking like David Boston on the AZ Cardinals on roids back in the day I highly doubt his body and game will go to the next level.

Time will tell lol. I think he’ll take it to another level.

If Wemby and Chet Holmgren can be great being that tall and skinny then Mobley will be fine.

Well good thing it doesn't matter what you doubt, my guy. If you dont see what Ev is becoming, then thats entirely on you.
