    Dude, you're a huge inspiration and simply amazing at unicycling! I love your videos! You're my favorite! I've been unicycling for around 4-5 months now and I love it so much! Right now I'm learning intermediate stuff like pedal grabs and unispins. I feel like I'll never be able to do crank flips or grinding or any of the ridiculous stuff you do, but you're just a huge encouragement and an inspiration to us all!

    I've been riding seriously for about 6years now ;)
    and practise a lot, have fun and try new stuf are the most important things ;)
    for jumping: learn jumping on stairs... you can make a lot of variation lines on stairs(like 1by 1, 2up-1down-3up,..) and it helps improve your control and makes your hops better ;)

How do you build up to things like that? Any trick ideas I could learn? Help!! I really want to do stuff like that! You guys are AMAZING!!!! HELPP MEEEE!!!! Thank you!!

    Hello Tim. I was wondering what tire do you use for those great rolling hops and what crank size as well? Your video is very inspiring.

    • @timdesmet
      @timdesmet  10 років тому +1

      the tire I'm current using is: monty eagle pro race, which is really an awesome tire! quite expensive, but super light and nice to ride ;)
      and 130mm (perfect size for street/trial riding)

    • @nathant7437
      @nathant7437 10 років тому +1

      Tim Desmet I couldn't find the eagle pro available so I got the older monty eagle claw, last one available. Seems like they're going out of production. You have a lot of experience, what's your impression of other trials tire in terms of bounce quality? Like the CC, old monty claw, Cyko Lite, Try All Lite? I'm very impressed in your rolling hops, have been practicing for 2 hours a day for months and your videos just makes me want to keep practicing.

    • @timdesmet
      @timdesmet  10 років тому +1

      in this vid I ride the monty eagle claw ;) really good tire! the pro race is just lighter
      I personnally don't really like CC, and haven't tried cyko lite yet...
      the try-all light is also a great tire! super light and perfect for street riding, but the monty is better for trial and flat imom because it's wider (= more bounce, more surface for rolls)

    • @nathant7437
      @nathant7437 10 років тому

      Tim Desmet How's the durability on the eagle claws since you also ride streets like I do? Just wondering how long they've lasted you so far, considering they're also out of production and getting one is a lot harder nowadays. I hope you try out the cyko lite one day soon and tell me what you personally think about it when doing your hops. Any interesting tips you can share to help those of us that are into rolling hops or unicycling in general? Thanks!

    • @timdesmet
      @timdesmet  10 років тому +1

      + 1-2years for street riding :) (for trial riding a lot less)

    Hey I've been riding for like 3 or 4 years now, and I haven't been trying tricks really, just little like foot-tall hops, and I rode in a couple of parades this year while playing the trombone. I've been trying some more serious stunting and I want to upgrade my uni, because all I have is a torker CX20. What would you recommend, and what do you ride? I was looking at the Torker DX

    Hi,
    360 unispin is quite hard to get consistent ;)
    it's nice you have already land some before... just try them for 5-10min every time you go ride, and you will get them again (and more consistent in time)
    and I live in Belgium (Europe) :p

    well first of all, you don't know where you will end up in unicycling... I remember I was like: wow, will I ever be able to hop 65cm? and now I hop 120cm and my overal skills have improved soo much :)
    the question if you should get a unicycle or not is yours, but I will tell you: it is an awesome sport, with lots of variation in riding, its unique, and best of all: the unicycle community is the best community ever! super friendly, fun people and competitons are super much fun (and party,..)

  • @timdesmet
    @timdesmet  11 років тому

    nice :)
    start practising on stairs! it helps a lot to improve your control, your hops,.. and you can do a lot of variations on it!
    like:
    1) jump al stairs 1by1
    2) again al stairs but with as less hops possible
    3) just 2by2, or 2-1-2-...
    4)..
    for tricks, you can do some basic stuf 1st, like leg-around, wheelwalk,..
    but for spin/flip tricks, I would recomment to 1st learn how to hop 30-40cm :)

    Can you give me some tips on how to accomplish that? ( i can only jump like a foot high its sad) And ur awesome too :)

  • @timdesmet
    @timdesmet  11 років тому

    1st of all: you have to practise a lot to jump high! ;)
    here are some training tips:
    find a nice stairset and practice on it: like jump everything 1by 1, then 2by 2, or 3up, 1down, 2up,... and try to limit your correction hops, this will improve your control and will get you better at hopping ;)

    Please tell me I need help.
    (Great vid once again :D)

    • @DimensionPicturesAOT
      @DimensionPicturesAOT 8 років тому

      +Martin Jacquemyns 11 months late, hope you are still riding. Hops are about comfort and strength. You have seat in and seat out hops, they are good for different things. To get high, you will want to train your side hop (hopping horizontally to get vertical), rolling hop (riding into the hop), and riding/hopping seat in and seat out. The core of the hop comes from your physical strength and your skill in how you use your uni, but tire pressure is important. You need to use the compression of the tire to your advantage. This means lower your pressure if your tire is hard and isn't getting much "pop." I ride two different wheels, 19" and 20". My 19" is much fatter, lower pressure (I ride it around 30 or lower). It gets great compression, you just shift your body weight down before you hop and it sort of pushes you up. On my 20", though, which may be what you have, the pressure is much higher. It rolls better, but you can't get as much compression by shifting your weight down. Just play with your tire pressure, it's free to, and see what works best. You want it high enough to not fold when you hop/land/etc., but low enough to allow for a wide, grippy riding platform and good pop.
