    I'm impressed Sarah. Thanks for taking the time to put this together, it was very helpful. I'm in the process of heavily modifying the intercooler system on my S8 D4 and felt there was a huge lack of real-world data for wrapping pre/post intercooler ports.
    Have you considered installing fans before your intercooler for lower idle temps? Since it's mounted on the TOP of your engine I'm not sure you'll notice much difference unless you're able to pull in from outside air, but since you're in a hot climate it might be worth experimenting with.

    So I just subscribed to your channel the other day and I’m super stoked I did because your videos are awesome! I really like the car reviews and the detailing videos, I just got a “random orbital” polisher the other day and haven’t gotten the chance to use it yet because it’s been raining like crazy here (North San Francisco Bay Area) but after watching your detail video on the blob eye sti I’m super stoked to try it on my Evo when it comes time for detailing!!! (My car was vandalized a couple weeks ago.. someone squirted ketchup all over it in every nook and cranny possible and tp’d it after and stuck the tp in my hoodscoop and everywhere else, not to mention it rained and made it much worse to clean AND our club was hosting our monthly meet and cruise the same day so I spent the entire morning before the meet cleaning it 😢, but it gave me the drive to clean my garage enough to park inside!) sorry for the rant I’m just chillen watchin car videos (raining so I can’t detail my car) and I really like the videos you do thankyou!! 🙏🏼

    I had the same experience. I wrapped my intake in DEI Gold not long after I got it and noticed a significant temperature decrease both at the intake manifold peak/average as well as with the material temperature of the intake tube itself and the overall resistance to heatsoak. I run a lightweight battery and did the same with heatshield next to the header to cut down on the amount of radiant heat reaching the battery. Outside of stop and go traffic, the battery remains cool to the touch.

    With the gold wrap, it looks even more like a waffle!
    I may get this for my GTO; they heat soak so badly that some people relocate the IAT sensor because the one integrated into the metal MAF housing gets inaccurately high readings (on top of the already heat-soaked intake) and kills performance.

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified 7 років тому +1

    Now wrap the turbo inlet pipe and air box. My IAT (intake temps) have legit dropped by 50%. Add a co2 sprayer if things get Rowdy so you can bounce out quick with a super chill intake charge.

    Nice wrap. Wrapping the two exposed metal core strips on the top and bottom will help keep the heat off . Intercooler tabs look flimsy like the turbo inlet pipe rips at the turbo. Those hose clamps may be Triton brand , they are very good and hold up to the heating and cooling cycles well.

    nice video. Good effort into wrapping those bits.
    From a scientific standpoint though you might actually find more gain if you leave the hot side (intercooler entry) unwrapped and then wrap the cold side completely.
    The reasoning because the charge temps pre intercooler are hotter than the under bonnet engine bay temperatures. So heat energy will transfer out of the pipe and into the surrounding air, helping it cool a little bit before it gets to the intercooler. Then having a better insulated cold side obviously helps to the opposite.
    Just a thought and maybe worth a try.

    Rub a little petroleum jelly on those small o-rings so they don't fold over when you're putting the pipes back together. Just a small dab rubbed around the entire o-ring will do the trick!

  • @JyroOne

    Heatsinks? Those pieces of intercooler you wrapped are called end bells. The intake side is built like that for more strength to prevent cracking.

I would think the thermal transmission thru plastic would be kind of low to start with so this may be a waste of time. Decades ago . . ..in a land, not so far from YOU, Sarah...VHT coatings made spray Anodizing in colors of aircraft fittings... I used GOLD on center bolt flanges of CRAGAR chrome rims with corrosion in lug holes. This quite a bit before companies started offering gold / chrome / aluminum polished rims. (And long before we knew ANYTHING about fitments...PRO STREET was JUST starting . . .1979..ewe !) I used it on an intake valley pan on a Hemi Mopar, and it LOOKED great, and DID drop heat soak into manifold and carbs.

    PS there's just a little tip this works for from home air conditioning to the air conditioning on your own vehicle to Eva radiators cleaning the radiator removing the bugs from a vehicle or your air conditioner at home there might be dust buildup or some leaves removing all this debris improves your your cooler significantly you'd be amazed they have the stuff it's like a foam stuff made for air conditioning spray it on it will smell a little bit toxic smell like but once it bubbles up you just rinse it off and then your it looks brand-new afterwards and you'll notice a big difference you'll want to do this before even thinking that you need to service your AC usually if you take care of this you'll notice that there's a big Improvement if you won't need to worry about your AC or your car worried about overheating that's all you have to do if that doesn't fix the problem you do have big problems and you need to have it serviced or checked out before further damage starts living in Arizona specially when it's humid most radiators swamp coolers air conditioner struggle in high humidity all's it has to be is 100 degrees and 80% humidity or higher and it doesn't matter what you have air conditioner swamp cooler doesn't matter what the cooling is its struggles
