- The hardest computer repairs in my shop are gaming pc's that have a problem I can't reproduce. Whether it's a failing CPU, GPU or power supply, these gaming desktops are complex pieces of tech that have so many reasons to stop working, and it's up to me to figure out what failed. technology is becoming harder to repair and diagnose problems, even in a laptop . But I'm TGTTEL and I'm going to figure it out.

Murphy's Troubleshooting law: You can't reproduce the issue when a technician is watching.
As someone in the tech industry, I can absolutely confirm that the non-reproducible issues are NIGHTMARES 💀
Or issue that pops up random
works on my machine, closed
My friend had this issue with it just powering off and a blue screen of death with his Asus G73JW...so I've wiped it clean...new windows...all drivers...have been using it for over a week...the issue with it is the battery..new battery and sorted 👍🏻
Thats anyone who works with electricity my friend. I work on electrical wiring and units all the time and this takes me auto pilot to trying to remember 4 years ago when I was studying.
Absolutely not true. You just say "works for me" and bill them for your time. 😉
Two most frustrating things in diagnosis or debugging:
"It's not working, and I don't know why."
"Now it's working, and I don't know why."

THE GREATEST TECHNICIAN THAT'S EVER LIVED
Ya
Omg that’s sooo funny
As a maintenance technician, yes. The biggest annoyance is not being able to reproduce the reported issue.
And then the cause being something completely unrelated...
I swear to god the moment the customer brings their device in the problem decides that now is the time to hide. Issues? nah, what are those?
lol I feel you I actually was trying to replicate a problem on a machine then the machine didn’t turn back on wasn’t fun to deal with
As a customer the worst thing is when you say you're having a certain problem but the technician tries one time to replicate it and can't and just tells you there's no problem.

Yeaaa
you know somebody's a true professional in their field when they acknowledge problems deciding not to problem in the presence of said professionals as an actual phenomenon
At some point you have completely instinctive mechanical sympathy. You do stuff as a user that is informed by you being a technician and don't even realise it that prevents the issue from presenting, while the actual user is probably doing something to that PC that you absolutely would never think of doing on your own.
yup..... when you have reproduced it 99 times. try to show it to someone who knows more or is a second pair of eyes cause your stuck in a train of thought and NOTHING HAPPENS.
The fact he was able to diagnose the problem and fix it says alot about this man's skills
If he had real skills he would have asked the customer to disconnect all paraphernalia and boot first, instead of costly and time cunsuming in person repairs.
@@Sphynx00fr, if he’s getting no more info on the situation from the customer than ‘keeps powering off’ then his service is lacking lol
@@gensou777"oh no the computers having problems. Must be what it's connected to" is not what people think off the bat. You check the computer first and then you check the surrounding items. 🤡
@@Sphynx00can’t really bill them for that though
@@gregoryholland6126 Depends, if the customer dropped the PC off initially the it should have been the repair guys first question. Then when the tech booted it up and saw nothing wrong he wouldn't have had to do a complete tear down. Charge the $50-$100 for diagnostic and send him on his way.

My last computer ran totally fine for 6 years (3770K, Intel Extreme mobo, and gold class PSU). Except only with 1 bank of RAM. When rebuilding and modernizing it for my father, I realized the mount for the Coolermaster sealed water cooler was causing the CPU to slightly tilt, and some of the memory pins had a bad contact. I swapped it out for a Noctua vapor cooler, and it’s still choochin, now with 2 banks, after 10 years. Even after being filled with all the bloatware in the world because he installs everything and never turns it off.

So true, my dad is like a really big computer person and he knows a shit ton. Whenever I have a problem and call him, it never does the issue.
I have my worst days at work when the machines just want attention.
Machine screws up, call maint. Maint. shows up, machine is suddenly fine. Maint leaves, machine screws up again. Maint comes back, machine back to normal. Meanwhile, in the 3 hour span this has occurred, I've piled up stacks on stacks of backed up food that has to finish being processed within the damned day. Then, by the end of the day it's miraculously perfectly fine, and there's no proof that anything was ever wrong with the machine, except for a maint report that states that they went to check the problem but nothing was wrong...

This man is the McNally of computers
Can confirm, getting a repair where you know there’s a problem but you can’t find a single thing wrong is the worst.
As a former automotive technician (fancy dealership mechanic), I can tell you that sporadic "seemingly random" problems usually result in situations like these.
Step 1: Try to reproduce the problem.
Step 2: Try to gather more information like "What time? Weather? what were you doing when the problem occurred? ...etc.
Step 3: Keep the product for a few days to use in and out of the shop, see if it occurs. This included driving customer vehicles over a weekend.
Step 4: give the customer the product back and give them two options. "If it starts happening more often, a specific location, or a specific task" ... i.e. "Bring it back when it gets worse." OR Take time out of my day at the shop for the customer to drive me around while they try to create the issue for me. --This last part would be hooking up all cables/devices in its home location and call me out to you when it happens.
Some people generate an aura of hatred for all things technological around them that spontaneously makes technology break down in tears. It's impossible to reproduce in a repair shop.
Can someone explain why would somebody use thunderbolt docking station
PC might be hard to access where it is on the desk and the dock sits on the desk for access to ports.
@@mateuszkrytyk5711 I just looked it up. 200 USD for steam deck adapter, that random chinese company can assemble for probably 20 bucks. No idea what are those people thinking.
My boyfriend has a similar issue. His pc turns off AND on without him doing anything. It was his cat... She just straight up clicks the button when she wants attention
That's why I choose to have to hold the button to turn it off. Cats do be like that.

Several decades ago my car would run rough because oil would get onto a spark plug. A drive on the freeway would fix it, but one time none of my tricks worked. I stopped at the garage before work and they said they had no openings that day. When I started the car back up, it ran fine! Magic repair shop vibes? I'm a believer.
Hah, love this!
My car broke down at the grocery store once it had a cylinder that wasn’t firing and was undrivable to I had AAA bring it to a repair shop expecting a 4k$ repair and they called me back the next day and say the car didn’t have any issues so I picked it up and drove it home
Another issue that’s common in these circumstances is basically the customer’s outlet is too weak
People should be aware that mounting the pump of AIO above radiator is always bad for the pump lifespan and also having the tubes up is too. It at least needs to have tubes facing down but in a case like this there's no space for that sadly. Ceiling mount would definitely resolve the issue though.
