    I just got off the Carnival Magic. Everything was great but if I had to complain about 1 thing it would be this...I am in a wheelchair and I noticed that there weren't that many wheelchair accessible public bathrooms on the ship. I only found 2. So anytime I had to go to the bathroom, I had to leave my group for an extra 20 min than what it would normally take me so I could go find a bathroom and there wasn't a handicapped nearby all the time. A few times I just ended up going back to my room to use the restroom. Thank you for your info!!!

      That's why we study the deck plans of every ship and count the # of HC public bathrooms. That's at the top of our decision making list. The days of being on a cruise ship with only 2-3 HC public bathrooms is over for us. Live and learn.

      @@Cruisingwithwheels yes good advice. That was a cruise we booked because our friends invited us and when they did they were already booked on it. But from now on that is something I'm going to research before I book.

    Thank you so much for this information. Took a cruise about 5 years ago and I was not disabled yet. Best vacation ever I will definitely go again. Still adjusting to progressive loss of mobility and with autoimmune disease as the cause assistance needed can vary widely at times. Also the needs involved with immune suppression medication I found information for Carnival a protocol for storing and using injections/and/or refrigerated medication. This definitely gave peace of mind if I were to flare or be injured from overactivity (pretty likely lol) Also knowing I can have shower seat (regular use) and grab bars (intermittent) without taking away from a wheelchair user makes the choice guilt free.

    I would never have looked up a video like this before but now we have a 16yr old son who was in a horrible car accident last September and is paralyzed from the chest down. We have 5 other kids,ranging 9yr -19yr. So a cruise would be great for all ages in our family. Just hoping by next summer 2022,my son will be wanting to do this. Thank you for this very detailed video.

    Amazing info. I was just talking about accessible room with my sister. We are both on walking canes so we have a tendency to leave the accessible rooms for those who need it the most we get around very wonderfully however my biggest pet peeve is how low the toilets are which is very stressful on my knees so I've decided whether it's a hotel room or a cruise ship I'm going to start ordering the accessible rooms thank you so much for the information it was very informative

    Let me say you both are a AMAZING! My mother is a stroke survivor. She walks with a cane but she is paralyzed on one side and I promised myself that I'd figure out a way to take her on a real vacation where she could be independent. Your video not only helped me book the correct room for her needs (Fac-say with Carnival) then you did a video on renting mobility devices that could be delivered to your cabin... omg that nugget of information was everything I needed. Although she only needs a scooter for the grocery store she would definitely need it onboard and at port I was able to reserve one. Our port sucks (Norfolk Va) so this will be interesting lol. All I need now is someones credit card to pay for all of this LOL 😂. Thank you again.

    • @Cruisingwithwheels
      @Cruisingwithwheels  5 років тому +1

      Our 1st advice would be...prepare to have a lot of patience. You will be relying on the elevators to get from one deck to another...and they can be packed with people (who can use the stairs, but choose not to) who might not be so nice & thoughtful. You should have a special needs letter in your cabin waiting for you...telling you where all the handicap public restrooms are....keep that handy. Study the deck plans before you set sail, so you have an idea where venues and elevators are. Try to plan everything from home...like booking dinners, shows and excursion reservations. The less you have to do on the ship...the better. Be prepared to be vocal and an advocate for your mother....the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Always read the Carnival Fun Times newsletter daily to see what activities are happening and plan accordingly. Let the little things roll off your back and enjoy your cruise.

    Thank you for this video!! Have been binge watching the past couple weeks!! Just had an Ambulatory Accessible stateroom V5048 on Koningsdam last month...interesting part was they emailed that a shower chair would be delivered but when we arrived, it had a built in fold down chair in the shower...nobody in the accessible dept knew this.. & one lady even said it was a roll in shower...no, she was obvi talking about the fully accessible...I sent them a pic of the shower chair, it's still not changed on their website, but that's the thing...sometimes u just don't find things out until u are on the ship, maybe more so on a newer ship? sideways room was good, lots of floor space, normal size door tho, (was ok for my small scooter) huge step in bathroom & balcony..even bigger than other ships normal room steps, I still think there are not enough accessible rooms on the ships..ncl was the best...nice accessible dept lady upgraded us from gtd inside on last min booking to an aft minisuite, on the Escape automatic front door, automatic bathroom door too!

It is not enough that they know what the cruise lines require. Your videos can teach them some empathy . This is something they can't learn in a rule book. Really great video! Question - where are the wall plugs in these cruise ships (how low or high are they in the wall)? Also, what voltage are they?

    • @Cruisingwithwheels
      @Cruisingwithwheels  Рік тому

      The cabin outlets are generally at the desk. Cabins are pretty much equipped with both standard European 220/230 volt AC and standard North American 110 volts AC outlets. The outlet in the bathroom is for the sole purpose of an electric razor and a sign plaque to that, is affixed to the wall above it.

    Hello! I've just started watching your videos and I really enjoy them.😊 My DH & I are still new to cruising, having been on one with Royal and have two booked (one each on Royal's Oasis & Princess' Regal). My main question is - do you have any info on Princess Accessible balconies or deluxe accessible balconies for 3 people? We are wanting to bring our teenage daughter on our Princess Cruise but am not sure if 3 in an accessible will work. I know it does in Royal but I can't find much on Regal Princess. I have OI (brittle bone/collagen disorder) and use a scooter on board and also need an accessible bathroom. I'm wondering if we should still go ahead and try Princess or cancel our booking and go with Royal or NCL - which I can find more info on accessible balconies. Having a balcony is a dream for DH & I so we really want to be able to stick with that type of cabin. Any and all advice/info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you both so much for your time. You definitely should. A cruise ship with thousands of passengers rushing back and forth through the ship can be very dangerous for someone with your husband's condition. Even in my wheelchair...people knock into me or fall on me...cause they just aren't aware of their surroundings.

Lightly elbow or fist bumping the sensor from the inside opens the door automatically as well. The balconies are also accessible as are the cabin restroom. Thank you for the insight you provide in your videos! I am a below-knee amputee and I'm planning my first cruise...with Carnival in February 2019. Wearing my prosthesis is usually a nightmare so I rely heavily on my cheelchair. I know that I will need a FAC room. Do you know if carnival has FAC suites? Also, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to bring my own manual wheelchair, or rent one? I'm concerned about air travel with my chair, getting from airport to ship, etc. I'm both excited and nervous, not sure what to expect!

    • @Cruisingwithwheels
      @Cruisingwithwheels  6 років тому

      We're pretty sure carnival has FAC Suites, like the other cruise lines. You can bring your own wheelchair, like I do OR rent one...the rental company will have it in your cabin waiting for you. If you don't bring your own wheelchair, you're at the mercy of relying on wheelchairs at the airport and at the cruise terminal. You'll get priority boarding on the airplane....1st one on. However, you'll be the last one off, because the'll have to get your wheelchair pulled from luggage cargo. We always use a private car service to pick us up at the airport & get us to the ship. We order an SUV big enough & let them know that one passenger is in a wheelchair. If you're looking to just bet a cruise transport bus......they can fold up your wheelchair & store it underneath with everyone's luggage.....if you can get up the 3-4 steps to the bus. Or grab a cab...you'll need a cab " van " to accommodate you.

    FAC cabin is the biggest cabin?

    • @Cruisingwithwheels
      @Cruisingwithwheels  6 років тому

      FAC is the accessibility aspect of the cabin...not the size of the cabin. Full Access Cabin = wider doorway to get into the cabin with a wheelchair or scooter. Large enough are to maneuver & turn around......wider doorway to access the bathroom, with a roll-in shower & bench....a tilted mirror, etc.... That's a basic FAC. However.....your cabin may be " larger " if you're not in an inside handicap cabin, but in a balcony handicap or in a mini-suite handicap cabin or in a more expensive handicap luxury cabin.

    NCL Dawn disabled room was the worst . The room was small ,smelled like urine . Balcony was the worst , rusty,dirty. Could not go on the balcony with the wheelchair ,too small. ♿️ The bathroom was terrible. We paid the most and was the worst . Joy was wonderful.

      That is sad to hear !!! What a disappointment !!! And yet, the NCL Joy was great....good news on that. It just goes to show, what we always tell cruisers...." sometimes it's just a crap shoot...on the ship, the crew, the food, etc..... !! "

      What cabin number was it?

  • @thedisabilitytocruise2825

    Can I please say, that, it is not the cabin/stateroom which is disabled. It is the person/people who vacation in these cabins/staterooms who are disabled (myself included - I am a full-time wheelchair user), so, to say "disabled cabins" is completely wrong. Can you please change your wording when relating to "ACCESSIBLE cabins/staterooms"? Thank You.

      First off, you are watching a 5 year old video. Just 1 of over 850 videos that our 14k+ subscribers enjoy!! In the video, Frank said "handicap room" twice. Its a shame your feel that you have to be the "language police" when clearly everyone who watches us knew exactly what we were and are speaking about..... whether it be handicap or disabled or accessible. We would NEVER comment 1 of your 30 videos or call you out on your terminology on your channel and try to embarrass you in front of your 16 subscribers. Please focus on YOUR channel and content and not be the self appointment "UA-cam Monitor".
