- Some Low Pressure Sodium and High Pressure Sodium Street Lights in Coventry and The Last of the High Pressure Sodium Street Lights In Leicester.
Video starts at 9:50pm in Coventry on the A46 with a mix of LPS and HPS street lights turning on. I then drive along the M69 to Leicester leaving the M69 and joining the M1 driving under new LED street lights and as I leave the M1 at Junction 21A there are still 4 HPS street lights in video but have now gone 12/07/2021. As I go under the M1 you see a lot of failing T8 4ft fluorescent lights some working correctly, most are very dim, others have a pink hue and some have burnt out reached EOL.
The roundabout were there was a new led street light cycling, now has 2 cycling.
Shame to see all those dead lps lamps :( I remember when I was younger there was one of the small sox lps lamps directly in front of my house, used to watch it turn on and warm up from the window in the evening for whatever reason, got replaced with led sadly. miss those days tbh
I loved the warmup of Sox lamps and their technology in general, but have to say, the new LED lit roads look fantastic here, they seem to have gotten the colour temperature right.
Just to let everyone know, there is a Amber LED Version of HPS. Its called Narrow Band Amber. Search it up, you'll see. Some cities are looking into it
I remember there were street lights that lit the M1 in Leicester. A few of them appeared to have bulb holders that had come loose, making the bulb face downwards, resulting in the bulb melting through the bowl.
There is a HPS street light on the À5 between Hinckley and Nuneaton that's done that. Bowl has now dropped off leaving 250 watt LPS lamp hanging by wires still working. Another is a day burner and is cycling as well
Such a shame to see such great lights slowly fall into disrepair. I’d love a last look at a mass sox lit road, the closest to me was the M4 in Wales but that’s all led now :( great video, very relaxing too 😂
A1(M) around Hatfield at present STILL has some currently but they too may be on their last call!
Philips MA60s are the name of those LPS lights on the M69. The biggest ones Philips did I think were the SRP254s, which used to light the M6 and M5 in Birmingham and the Black Country back in the 1970s and 80s, but then they all got replaced in the 1990s.
I recently did a video myself of the lights on the M69 at Coventry as well, but it was in the day time.
The LED lights on the M1 and M69 replaced HPS ones, which was a shame because a lot of them weren’t even that old. The new lanterns on the tallest columns along the M1 main carriageway are now Philips Lumas, and then on the sliproads and main carriageway of the M69 the new lanterns there are Thorn R2L2s.
urbis evolos were the central reservation ones the leicester m1 stretch j21-21a had, one of the newest hps (pre-LED) designs
M1 j23-23a sgs204s still there atm
I dread to see the day where every single SON and SOX lamp in the UK is replaced with LED.
I miss the batch of the LPS ones around East Midlands Airport. Because they were so low and were on all sides, it felt like you were going through a tunnel at night when they were on.
Yes I do miss the old LPS street lights. I was surprised when I see some still working on the M69 in Coventry.
Theres still a few left on the M1 outside East Midlands Airport, at the junction for the A42.
I remember them well. Straight back to the 1980s when most roads had these lights.
LEDs light are visible for drivers ❤
Do you think that maybe the LPS and HPS will ever return?
Unlikely, The bigger question whats going to replace LED?
@@davesbusstuffandmore I've seen loads of pictures of different types of high and lo pressure lamps. And they are so many different lamps that look different they have the same bulb just the lamp design seen many different lamp designs for the sodium lights can you explain what the difference is I the designs of the lamp if one has like a different job
Also that LEDS produce radiation
@@davesbusstuffandmore LEC light emitting chip? Who knows what's next lol

2:43. That car 🚘 drove STUPID quick.
They probably have the runs.
@@MrAngryGorilla2000 you mean the driver [possibly] had diarrhoea?
@@NickyMitchell85 Yes possibly, needs to lay off the fish and chips.
I live in Northern California, the city of San Jose had a majority of streetlights that were LPS, now most of them are converted to LEDs. I always found the LPS to be funky looking with horrible color rendering. The red Honda we used to have looked tan under the LPS glowing light. LPS despite their poor color rendering and weird designs are great for the environment. It cuts down on light pollution and helps nearby observatories observe the stars clearly at night. LEDs on the other hand have many pros but cons as well, personally I love the color, energy savings and long life, but they need to redesign them better. They put too much glare in my eyes at night, causing me to slow down a bit every time I drive underneath one. These companies that design LEDS should design them like the HPS or even LPS with a solid Lens cover. In The US, they are now using the warm light LEDs for residential areas, and the day light or neutral white for freeways (motorways) and avenues.
Nice
4:21 empty
top still missing 22/03/23
The new bright white LEDs are terrible. Harsh cold and ugly. HPS are so much better and easier on the eye
Shame …😂dead of street lights
