Thank you for posting about this! Clean water makes such a difference in life and health. You have worked through the high points. I plan to buy a new filter system hopefully for a black Friday sale price.
Wow… Thank you for such an in-depth review. I myself have done some research in this area. Many people rave about the reverse osmosis Aqua-Tru system but I have still been on the fence. We live in Northern California and I am able to purchase mountain spring water from our local mountains although in the BPA free 5 gallon plastic bottles. It is concerning to me that we would absorb that much plastic and I’m assuming the 5 gallon bottles would be similar. I am also interested in something that works in an emergency situation. So many people love the Berkey and plenty of people don’t because of so many different variables. so it’s been confusing. I trust your opinion so it’s lovely to hear this from you as I know you also do deep research. Also, there is the detail that we live in California. Hopefully soon I will make a decision 🧐 Thanks again . 🙏🏼😊🌈

Great video! Have you heard of Aarke? 100% stainless steel. No plastic touches the water, not even on the filter. Does plastic on the filter of the DBB sit in the water?
I’ve seen Aarke! The water in the bottom chamber, when full, doesn’t hit the bottom of my filters or washers used when tightening them into the chamber. Top chamber elements are submerged in water. But that water then goes through the filter.
Aarke is a water conditioner for 30 gallons and doesn't filter the water. They use GAC to absorb containing, DBB elements use a refined GAC and carbon block internally that does this as well as filtering and is NSF tested to over 800 gallons for std 42, and 400 gallons for std 53.
I break it all down in the Scorecard here, by system: www.thestyleshaker.com/product-reviews/doulton-british-berkefeld-gravity-water-filters?rq=doulton
What do you think is the best solution currently for those outside US? My understanding is it's only US who can get the silver-free filter cause of the EPA pesticide ruling? I'm in Australia and i don't want to add to my worries putting silver into my body...
I wish I had an answer for you. I'm just not sure. It can be super overwhelming and looking internationally would make my head explode I bet- but maybe reach out to Doulton or other reputable companies to see if they have any feedback? They were responsive.
Per DBB “According to tests done by EPA-accredited labs, Berkefeld Filters remove over 99.9% of PFAS, including PFOA and PFOS, from the water along with other types of PFAS.” tidd.ly/4eXtpoA
Yes, the Ultra Sterasyl does and has testing over 800 gallons that proves this. The Ultra Fluoride is in testing and will have the pass testing results very soon.
An RO is a mains plug-in in-line filter, British Berkefeld by Doulton is a gravity filter. RO's extract the H2O from the water so all of the healthy minerals are left in the effluent. An RO will waste up to 75% of the water that goes into them so it is very expensive in the long run. They are very useful in certain areas of the world but the US in not one of them.
You didn’t mention the plastic washers inside the chamber to keep the tap on. Plastics leaching inTo the clean water May as well stick to plastic bottled water until I find a filter that doesn’t contain plastic products. Disappointing.
The western world is screwed with the confusing metrics, gallons, leters, ounces, oh god, its UK, plesse speak in leters and MLs . You go to petrol pumps and fill it in leters but when you talk about economy of the vehicle mpg 😢
Very impressed with the review, thank you Britt. It was nice finding this and a great presentation.
you're welcome! Thanks for the kind words.

Thank you for your review. I'm trying to decide between this filter and the Newton one. This has been helpful.
happy to hear my review helped, thanks!
Thank you. Yes I purchase the stainless steel tap but it uses a plastic washer as well. I will keep searching for a plastic Free water filter.

helpful video. Thx
you're welcome- happy to hear that 💜
Is Doulton just the ceramic filters or the whole unit, housing etc? Or do we buy a separate container and just use the Doulton filters?
One time purchase of the steel unit, followed by just buying replacement filters, and maybe a replacement washer here and there.

How do I fix the leaking issue ? Do you have any trouble with your Doulton system from leaving ? It’s constantly dripping 🤷♀️🤗
I’d check with the brand on that one! I haven’t had leaking issues for my system, but I’m sure they could offer some suggestions that may help

Does it remove forever chemicals

Reverse osmosis removes everything so why not pick that
I’ll explore reverse osmosis next probably, but for now the gravity filters better fit my current needs/home!

All materials are NSF certified and proven not to break down and leach over time. Also, upgrade and buy the stainless tap instead.
Hi Britt - I sent you an email. Great video!
