My profile pic shows me sitting in my YukonXL.
In the past, for flip over shelters, I have owned an Eskimo Sierra, and a Nanook before now having the Yukon.
As someone who’s over 6’ tall, the Yukon allows me to stand up and stretch without having to step outside. Big bonus, especially on those windy and bitter cold days.
Second “big bonus” is the deeper tub! Not only more storage, but higher seat. I don’t cramp up as easily as I did while sitting low in Nanook! Not as much of an issue now as it was awhile back when I was tilting the scales at almost 300 lbs, because I am now a shade over 200, but the walls of the Yukon tub are MUCH sturdier!!
I didn’t think the gray tub interior would be such a big deal until having it! Don’t ever want another black interior of the tub…. It’s nice to be able to more easily see where things are sitting in the tub especially when gloves/mittens/hats are down there!
Definitely love the dual doors! So nice to not have to crossover rods and holes and Vexilar, etc…. If need to get up and out while sitting on the nondoor side.
The thicker support and separator poles in the Yukon are nice for the windier days. It doesn’t seem as if i need to verify whether or not I have a tornado roaming around outside trying to get in to fish with me!
One thing I miss about the Nanook, though. The lighter weight for the days I am out alone and need to tow/lift it by myself.
I did NOT like the Eskimo Sierra I had before buying the Nanook. I don’t know if I just had a defective one or if I was one of many having the same issues. But in my experience, the Nanook was a FAR superior quality product compared to the Sierra.

Great video, myself I have the nanook xl I luv it. I picked it over the Yukon cause of price and I'm a walker. Not much difference other than the height which I can stand up no problem in and the tub. I removed my seats and just use a lawn chair, a lot lighter and more comfortable and gives me easy access to my gear. Enjoyed the video can't wait for the next..Cheers 🍻

Hey JF Sportfishing. I keep going back and forth with between the Nanook and the Yukon. I fish alone 90% of the time and have to walk every were I go. So the weight of the Yukon is scaring me a little. Do you feel that the Nanook XL Thermal is the way to go, and do you feel that it would last as long as the Yukon. I hear the poles might bend in the Nanook on windy day. TIA

@@kondoc7853 In my last video it was windy 32km gusts of 55km the hut was fine. I always setup the back facing the wind and I anchor the hut down, I installed two eye bolts one on each back coner of the tub lip and use two straps 45 degrees from each corner. I usually don't go when it's really windy but the season was coming to an end so I went it was a pain to take down but was worth it got a bunch of whitefish.

HOPE YER YEAR IS GOIN FABULOUSLY WELL. THE END IS CREEPING NEAR SO GET OUT THERE AND GET YOUR LINES DOWN... BEST OF LUCK LB AND ALWAYS BE 💪 SAFE...

Thanks for the review. I bought my yukon XL and am super excited to try it out. Can you tell me if you are using nanofil high visibility yellow line. Did you like it and catch lots of fish? My son made me change it out as it was too visible in lake simcoe as it is so bright and thought the fish could see it. Anyway good fishing.

Yupp - its power pro hi-vis yellow braid! I use braid to a fluorocarbon leader on all of my spinning reels. Braid has zero stretch, is a lot thinner for its rated strength which helps casting, and has zero memory so its very easy to deal with. I run hi-vis in particular since it helps me see my line jerk when a fish bites/ grabs my bait on the fall - which happens often to me. I have 5lb-10lb on all of my spinning reels, and use an alberto knot to tie fluorocarbon leaders. I usually use 10-20ft of leader depending on the lake - for example on Simcoe ill use more since its clearer, and use 6-10lb depending on what im using. Fluorocarbon sinks (helps get your baits down), is pretty much invisible and is still sensitive and low stretch. This way i have the best of both worlds - braid for casting, sensitivity and easy to manage, and fluorocarbon for stealth. I also find i dont have to respool my reels as often since braid lasts a lot longer - just change out the leader. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi, I notice the zipper on the door, along the bottom is very close to the snow and ice. Does the zipper ever get stuck in that particular area due to ice accumulating from going in and out?

Id have to agree! I used to have a non-thermal pop up, and its a huge difference compared to a thermal pop up!
