To all the people with negative comments: You don`t have to coax your dog to jump on you to perform this exercise. I`m sure this trainer was just speeding up the process for the camera. Any whining the dog did wasn`t out of pain, just frustration. I was having this problem with my 5mos. old pitbull so I got on UA-cam. While watching this vid, I suddenly remembered 50yrs ago when after my Mother`s Standard Schnauzer would scratch my legs up, I actually came up with this myself. I had totally forgotten it! It worked then and after only 3min. of training this pit, 6hrs later it`s still working (Maybe pits are smarter). Like I said, you don`t have to coax him into jumping up. Just wait until he jumps up on his own. Dont do it as a punishment! Act like you`re inviting him/her to play a new game that`s fun. They know what you mean by your tone of voice. The key is to gently walk him backwards. It`s not painful but it`s a game that they won`t like. They won`t hold it against you, but they`ll think this game is not for them. It helps to sing when you do it. That way, they won`t think it`s punishment.
Just tried this on my dog. I sang a "dance dance" song as I backed him up, so it was less "punishing" and more of a game he found he didn't like. He now sits when I ask him to jump up and now I praise him for that. Literally took less than 5 minutes. I am SOLD! And no, he wasn't hurt, he didn't whine, he just realized he didn't particularly like the lack of control he had. Thanks for the song idea.

When you tell a dog to jump up and then punish them for listening to you by dragging them backwards and hurting them, dont you think that could translate into other behaviours? If they learn "intelligent disobedience" and choose not to listen to a command because it could hurt them, that could easily happen in another situation where they feel threatened and choose not to sit down because they feel they will be hurt. Teach your dog 4 paws on floor for attention, no need to drag, knee, kick, smack or be aversive.. just turn around and remove attention if they jump. And you can actually teach a jump or paws up command which shows your dog that jumping is okay when invited only. You can use it as a training and exercise activity if taught correctly and your dog will 100% trust you
What the hell is wrong with you? You dont encourage or ask a command and then punish them for doing it? Also that's so dangerous and damaging for a puppies joints. Just use a slip lead or a normal correction

This is not how you train a dog to not jump. This is by far the most ridiculous method I’ve seen to date to stop jumping. You are literally setting that dog up to fail, by telling it to do something and then correcting the dog for it. That is not how training works. This is just a quick fix, lazy method with no proper means of building a foundation for the dog. It’s sad that only thing you are really doing is, ruining your relationship with an amazing looking gsd pup.

Reward and praise once they have their "4 on the floor" again. Simple as that and you don't risk effing up the trust. Good example: ua-cam.com/video/bPk2SJrH9eY/v-deo.html
Why would you ask the poor puppy to jump up and then punish him for doing exactly what you asked him to do? You are confusing the poor terrified puppy. This is also a great way to injure the puppies back legs.
Patting your chest and saying up up does NOT mean jump up. It means sit and watch me. Puppy learned that by itself within three tries. Dogs don’t speak English. They learn cue, action and result. Puppy was rewarded well when it succeeded. Puppy is super happy AND won’t end up in the shelter or tied to a chain cuz of that bad behaviour. A kinder result that is, no?
@@aremedyproject9569 I know what you're saying, and I've seen a lot of good trainers try to proof the no- jumping this way, but I don't know that I really get it... I'm thinking that a) it seems odd to encourage your dog to do an unwanted behavior just so that you can correct it...? and b) you're using facial expressions and natural "come to me" physical cues but then teaching your dog it doesn't mean that, so......🤔 I don't know... I think I'd probably opt to just amp up the dog, and reward intermittently for not jumping, (particularly when you can tell the dog was about to jump up but chose not to). I've even heard from both schutzhund trainers and Ian Dubar that you should specifically teach the dog TO jump on you ON CUE (bear with me) because it creates claritity for the dog. Dog is thinking "oh I get it- she knows that I am jumping up on her but I should only do it when she says that cue!" Ian has suggested using it as a reward sometimes. It teaches the dog a) she still gets to do it sometimes, b) she should ONLY do it when invited. Your thoughts?
Actually this works I've done this the other way to get a dog to stop jumping is to lift up as the dog is mid way through their jump so the only connection they make is with the knee. alot of the times when this happens they dont expect it so more often then not they'll vocalize their displeasure. When that happens you know you've done it correctly, the problem with mine is he's extremely stubborn and continues to do this. If I was able to get him sooner any one of the techniques I use would've worked better. The problem with mine is hes also older so I'm trying to break an entire life time of bad behaviours and for the most part most of them are taken care of. The other way is to turn your back to the dog this only fully works about 30-40% of the time. this technique will work 100% of the time for a short while but they will still go back to jumping.
It works within minutes, I bet people out there are spanking their dogs when they jump on people over and over and over, this method literally works instantly. Good for dog and master. Saves those little kids from falling down and crying too.
@@raysalzy2979 No, I AM a trainer and am aware of what negative reinforcement and fear-based techniques induce into the human-dog relationship/bond and the dog's behavioral health. Positive-reinforcement training is scientifically proven to be the most effective overall, comprehensively. Only those not willing to take the time to train their human or animal kids disrespect others in the ways you're demonstrating. When you care and know better, you do better. You're clearly one of a common many that appear familiar with only ~10% of what positive-reinforcement training encompasses.

This is the worst advice I’ve ever seen! You literally punished him for doing what you asked him to! I would never use methods that cause my dog to whimper. This is a joke.
So, you encouraged the puppy to jump on you, sent all the signals that that was a behavior you wanted him to do, and then immediately punished him once he performed the behavior YOU ASKED HIM TO PERFORM. That puppy wasn’t jumping until you encouraged him to, I think a better title for this video would be “how to make a puppy not trust you as an owner” Also, puppies’ joints are still developing at this age; you could do an incredible amount of damage if you do this to a young puppy. Please do not listen to the dangerous advice in this video; it may work, but it’s not necessary and there are dozens of other, better ways that don’t destroy the trust your dog has in you.

If you did this in the UK you would be taken to court for animal cruelty
you asked to dog to jump on you. It did what you asked and the reward was that? not cool
Tony Vickers Yeah not cool at all. I think he meant to name this video...How to teach your dog not to trust you.
Cali Karma808 He would pet the dog and reward if it sat.
You have no clue on how to train a dog
@@royalwolfimports355 sounds like it doesn't work if you keep saying the dog is doing it anyways.
NO, types of ideas!...COMPLETELY, agree 👏🏻
It’s 1am in the morning and I’m waking up my puppies just to walk the suckers backwards!!
😂👏🏽😂👏🏽😂👏🏽😂👏🏽
WTF.... This is terrible "training"
How?
free wind exactly
German Shepherd‘s are known to have a bad back legs what you doing here is totally wrong!!!!
I only have a problem with that because my dog it's big, I wouldn't bother if he were small
I have tried this with my border collie 6 moth old pup. Not working.
I really don't like how you taught her not to do it and then tell her to do it and freak her out, she was yelping and frightend, even my own dog got up to see what was wrong. 😠
Looks like a great idea. Going to give it a shot! My dog doesn’t jump on me, but she loves to do it to others. Just not sure how we treat that. Will she just stop if I train her?
Me too! My dog only jumps on others and i dont know why
I’m pretty sure you stepped on his foot. Gotta hurt lol
He’s fat what did you expect
thanks so much for this, our dog is a serial jumper to the point where my wife did not look forward to getting home from work because of it
I'm the SAME as your wife! Our dog goes NUTS, knocks things out of my hands, scratches me....she's a sweetheart and a lover. She is just so happy to see us. We had doggy classes set up, but....Covid. So now I'm scouring youtube. 😁
I wonder how my 60 lbs rot will do with me doing this. She's huge. Worth a shot!
I just did it on my 80 lb puppy Great Pyrenees and it worked just fine!
Great advice. I hope this helps me and my dog Mulder.
F*** the negative comments...my dog thinks she is a kangaroo....first time I did this she stopped..hasn't jumped for week now... he didnt hurt the dog....the dog panicked
Wow, when a stranger makes eye contact with my dog he takes it as a threat....wow
It took 5 times and now she don’t like to jump
I have four dogs. They jump at me simultaneously whenever they see me..two at my front nd two at my back....Was wondering how to stop this
Does this work or being abusive?
Very knowledgeable, I love it. However, My GSD like to jump on the fence when see me back home. Should I avoid that?
I would avoid teaching him not to do that. Just when he jumps ON you.
thanks!
The technique might work but poor pup seems confused.. "First you teach me not to jump, then you make me jump for your video, then hurt me for doing it?"
It works one and forever
Y’all soft asf
😂😂
What on earth is the matter with you? You are teaching that puppy that people are scary and unpredictable. I can teach a dog to not jump without making them cry. It's not hard. Geezus.
😂 worked perfectly for me mate
@@nathanford7057 is it good enough for you that it worked? Did you luck out by not making your dog fearful of you? I want to be kind to my dog. And there are ways to teach a dog not to jump that won't terrify them. This is really some horrific dog training, "mate".
I love it when dogs jump up!
I don't like dogs that have no manners that their owner doesn't want to teach them
Not when it’s a 130 pound dog, jumping is not the greatest.
I need help, my dog does this for fun it's like he's dancing and he just gets floppy and keeps jumping back up(I don't throw him I just hold his front feet😭😭)
This worked perfectly thank you for the help
You give the dog a command to jump up then you punish him for doing it. WTF kind of training is that? I would not let you near my dogs. arg
This is the worst advice I’ve ever seen! You literally punished him for doing what you asked him to! I would never use methods that cause my dog to whimper. This is a joke.
It works! Just don’t do it rough! But firm!
My Belgian don’t give a shit lol
My dog stopped but she is upset with me for it :/ what do i do
Tell her to get over It! Your in charge not her
.......don't do it again...
Did this with my dog and it didn’t work. He thought of it as a game. But I’m Training him and it seems to be working. Thanks tho!
You shouldn't own a dog. The dog was being hurt that's why it was whining and crying. I hope you consider getting into a different line of work.
Easiest way to stop jumping?
So, you encouraged the puppy to jump on you, sent all the signals that that was a behavior you wanted him to do, and then immediately punished him once he performed the behavior YOU ASKED HIM TO PERFORM. That puppy wasn’t jumping until you encouraged him to, I think a better title for this video would be “how to make a puppy not trust you as an owner”
Also, puppies’ joints are still developing at this age; you could do an incredible amount of damage if you do this to a young puppy. Please do not listen to the dangerous advice in this video; it may work, but it’s not necessary and there are dozens of other, better ways that don’t destroy the trust your dog has in you.
Lmao does this work foreal?
Almost instantly
Thanks for this video, it worked!!!
this one helped a lot ....... thanks
now, am I suppose to stomp on his feet too?? that poor puppy .
I'm gonna try this out and do it everyday hopefully it will work my dog is way too naughty.
i just try this with my husky and it work!!!! i wonder if every family member needs to do this too with my husky. or if with just me it would work on everyone else.
.
@Brosev the Dog i did it with my husky, but she still jump to other people. i had to show my mom and my daughter what they need to do and it works i think its consistency. she could not do it for a while and out nowhere she started jumping again, so i had to start doing the technique
you can teach a dog to sit for attention without doing something to upset it, it may take a bit longer but sits better with me than making a puppy yelp!
❤️
There’s gotta be a better way
My pup got this in 2 mins. He was like no I’d rather not jump anymore lol
Thanks . Also check out my new music
Best ever advice 👍 thank U KraftwerkK9
I herd eye contact is bad for dogs . like they see it as a challenge??? My dog won't stop jumping on stuff and everyone wants to return him in the house I don't want that tho
Gonna try that with dog as soon as i get home
Wow I tried that method and it really worked I'm completely amazed
This dont work for my gsp she continues to jump after three days of trying this
Thanks for a good tip 👌
