Ridley Helium SLX Dream Bike or Nightmare? Bike Review

- In my mind I can imagine a dream bike. It has all the best features of my current bike plus all the cool new technology that has appeared in the time since I got my old bike. When I saw that I could order a bike the way I wanted, from the colour to the main components I jumped at the opportunity. At a certain level most high end bikes are good. So what sets them apart? A bike is more than the sum of its part. It is also an experience. Let me tell you about my experience with my new Ridley Helium SLX.

Great review... i like your simple but direct style. I was considering this bike. Although if i had to take a bike of that value apart to find a rattle i think id be in tears'!! Not so sure now.
Buy it through a bike shop and let them deal with problems.
Was looking forward to this review. Nice work. If it was mine I’ll probably switch to carbon bars as they are lighter and more comfortable . I purchased some Hunt carbon wheels for my Trek Checkpoint gravel bike running 40mm tyres. Very impressed so far
Thank you.
Excellent review 👍
Thank you. I'm glad you found it informative.
Velotique,
How does one go about ordering a custom bike from Ridley? I was under the impression they didn't have any affiliated Canadian "bike specific" distributors and so I ended up ordering my Kanzo gravel through MEC last year. How did you go about bringing your Helium in? Thanks.
In Canada, contact my friends at: www.vellendtech.com/index.php
how wide of tires do you think would fit in the frame? ridley lists 28's but it looks like maybe 30's would fit? I have some rough roads and the larger tires in the winter are really nice.
The wide section rims make the 25mm tires feel like 28's. You could probably get away with 30mm as far as clearance on the frame. 28 might be plenty for your rough roads. I use the 25mm tires on gravel.
Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank You.
7.8 kilos for what size? Really thinking about picking up one these in Ultegra di2 build, but if it's already 7.8 with dura ace..
54cm. Stock wheels were heavy. It is now close to 7kg with my new Hunt Wheels. See the review. ua-cam.com/video/pS7skjPNmas/v-deo.html
i had a talk with tom boonen ambassador . ridley has a internal gearbox like a pinion now :-)
Not sure I know what you mean.

Ridley is getting this hub in production. I saw the new bike ... 7.500 euro 4 the base model.
Can you comment in comparison to how this is versus a trek madone, or specialized Roubaix, or tarmac? Ride quality is important but no one has a test ride to get a sense of feel. Thank you
Ride "feel" is very subjective. It depends on many factors other than the bike frame alone. Even tire pressure will have a dramatic effect. Choose a bike based on your expectations. Light, stiff, compliant, aerodynamic, etc. Lets take a Trek Madone for instance. If equipped with 23mm tubular tires vs 28mm tubeless tires the ride feel is totally different. You can almost make any high-end bike feel any way you like with some simple modifications. Hope this helps.
@@velotiqueBetterWatchSaul You are correct but I know that I will take a trek domane with 23 tires any day over a specialized venge mk1 with the largest fitting tire. The venge was brutal even if you could fit low pressure 28mm on the venge. The domane is meant to flex with the bumps and remain stiff enough climb better than a cheap steel bike. Basing on what you have ridden how forgiving do you rate this frame as? If you can include a few comparisons may help me. Thank you for your time
Aero frames tend to be very stiff, unforgiving. I like the forgiving ride of the Helium. Built for cobles, just like my old Cervelo R5.
At that price point you should be happy :)
Hello. Please tell me the name bar tape? Thanks)
Lizzard Skins.
@@velotiqueBetterWatchSaul I looked at the official site of Lizard Skins and did not find a winding with this pattern. Are you talking about the model shown in this video (6:20)? Don't remember the exact model name?
Thanks.
